I have worn Hoka's for many, many years, so I am quite familiar with the brand and wear. This model is by Far the most comfortable of any Hoka I have worn. I am about one month in wearing them and my wife also purchased the girl version of this same model and she feels the same way. We are senior in age and hike miles per week over diverse terrain. It is my opinion that one of the reasons for the 'walking on cloud' feel is due to the wider & long heel, which is the first place your hoof touches down when you're walking. With this enhanced platform, it helps cushion the weight of the step as well as enables you to make the most stable, sure footed step. The added heel size in no way limits any activity you will do.
I would recommend, trying on a pair at a local store to ensure you are ordering the correct size. Example: I wear one (1) full size larger in the Hoka, then my "normal" shoes/boots.
Negatives: Ha, "NONE"! I tell people there are two areas you never want to financially scrimp in and that is your shoes and mattress. After all, you spend most of your life in one of these two areas... Respect your feet, go get a pair...! :)

Shoe is next level cushioning. The wide base adds stability and cushioning on level ground. Had some difficulty rock scrambling due to foot placement issues. A few hard hikes and legs and feet were less fatigued. I immediately got used to the oversized heel. Would recommend if you're a serious hiker. Width and toe box were perfect fit, and I tend to wear wide shoes.

Since breaking my foot and ankle 29 years ago, pain during and after hiking has been an unavoidable part of the hiking I enjoy. But prior to a big trip to hike the "O" circuit in Torres del Paine National Park, I took a chance on the unusual looking Hoka TenNine boots. 85 miles of steep, rocky, slippery, fast paced hiking later, I can say that each of nine days were the most pain free I've experienced in 29 years. The radical design works....and the radical design posed no problem negotiating steep sections over closely spaced tangled roots. At the end of the day I was in no hurry to get out of my boots. Stream crossings verified the waterproof Goretex. Traction on wet clay and rocks was excellent. Even the laces worked well, never coming untied! TenNines made for a great multiday hiking experience.

All I would like to see, as with all shoes on the market, is an update to the dated concept of the shoe-lace. There are newer, better options on the market from brands such as Boa and Addidas, they are exemplars; for the evolution of footwear and continued development, design and modernization of footwear and the greater good of the industry.
They also could use a custom gaiter with bespoke side attachments.

Pretty crazy looking, but they're highly functional. I bought them to go on a hiking trip with a broken foot. I was able to do 3-6 mile steep hikes on loose gravel with ease. They are really large, so take up a ton of room in a suitcase....but if you do a lot of hiking in uneven terrain, these might be worth it

I didn't realize how far the heel stuck out and it just didn't work for me so I sent it back and exchanged it for the MEN'S ANACAPA MID GORE-TEX, which I love. I also have a pair of CHALLENGER LOW GORE-TEX which I didn't have to order a half size bigger because it is available in 12.5 WIDE. I love both pairs of these hiking shoes. Light, comfortable and warm.

I love them as a mail carrier I walk about 15 miles q day.....these boots make walking effortless and they are super comfortable......the only thing is I may return them because they rub on my ankles all day long I've had to stuff the sides of them with rubber medical gloves just to keep from rubbing my akles sore and raw.....so it's 4 stars for me

I have flat feet and as I age, my feet and ankles require support beyond what I find in a standard height shoe. This shoe is almost perfect; what's the problem? The back end flare is difficult to get used to. Driving is uncomfortable and I find myself catching the back of the shoe on all kinds of things from the under edge of the sofa when getting up to the stair treads when I go up and down. if you are less than 100% stable, I would caution you about buying this shoe.

The only reason I went with these pricey light hikers is that they run narrow. I have a c-b width so finding anything that fits in a hiking boot is hard enough. These felt great ? all day. Really thought I had running shoes on. Need a few more miles to be a complete Hoka head. Lacework a bit hiked up. Then again see above. Toe box good heel good (yes u need to aware of it) I wear a 13 so my ski on a stair is pretty normal.

Great shoe, but I felt the size was a little large in the width and length. Also, the back heal/sole is very wide and sometime I trip on myself.

61YO, 210#, 6'2", fit. I typically wear an 11.5 Wide, my absolute favorite is the Speedgoat 4, which comes in a wide width and I go with a 12 so I can use up to a mid weight sock for cold season hiking use. Out of the box the Tennine is comfortable, I find the toe box a little narrow but the overall width seems ok for my feet even though this is a 12M (no W option available). Lacing system seems ok and is much better than the Challenger which is a shoe that I've hike in a lot but don't like the sole or the lacing system. I have narrow heels but heel lift was ok, it does seem like the design tends to drive my foot towards the toe of the shoe, getting it laced properly sorted that out. The Tennine does take a little bit of getting used to, took me a couple of miles as it does impact your stride a bit and I suspect different people will be effected in different ways. Traction is excellent, cushioning is excellent. I did find, as others have noted, that the extended heel does tend to launch debris up which can get between your sock and the cuff of the shoe if you are not wearing long pants. I think these are going to work well but we will see after I get a few hikes into them.

My wife and I use them on an 80KM (50 miles) hike. We both felt the HOKAs comfortable, maybe a little rigid. The only defect that we found, and that affected us both, is that the tongue is thicker than what a boot / tennis normally has. This causes it to start to bother when fastened firmly, and in conjunction with the throat of the tennis shoe it creates an annoying effect, which ends up becoming a pain.

I do a lot of hiking on rough rocky terrain and the soles of these boots somewhat wrap around the edges of rocks and are very stable and grippy. However the design of the sole is faulty as it has a base layer and then various separate pieces of tread glues on to the bottom. These separate pieces will start to delaminate after about a year. Just long enough to be out of warranty. It seems like they could have a unitary molded sole out of the same material. Ive tried to make repairs by regluing the loose flaps but they never last more than one hike. Despite this they are so comfortable I keep buying new ones.

I tried both the Kaha and the TenNines. I need good cushioning because I have arthritis in my ankles from corrective surgery I had as a kid and I felt that these were a little more flat (heel to toe drop) than the Kahas. I also feel like they were more narrow than usual and I don't order wide shoe sizes. I could feel more ground in the soles and the dovetail heel almost forced your toes down as you moved forward which for me, made the front of my shins hurt. Now, I have a slightly weird gait because of my surgery, so it may not apply to everyone. I loved the unique look of them and they provided a wide base and good stability compared to the Kahas. Ultimately though I chose more comfort over super stability.

Had High hopes this would be the perfect hiking shoe I was looking for on long hikes. First day trying them on they felt really snug in the toe Box area and my big toe on right foot was rubbing against the upper part of the toe box area. After several 3 hr hikes my feet was on fire each time even after lacing them up differently. Every shoe i have bought was always size 11 but for these the boot didnt fit right plus after several days i developed blisters on right foot. Overall seems the shoe runs small.

This shoe felt good but I was looking for something that would help my metatarsalgia and Morton's neuroma and other problems. I was hoping the longer heel would take off some of the pressure but it didn't help me. I'm not sure my experience should be extrapolated to others since I have particularly troublesome feet.

Boots are comfortable but are already tearing up around the soles. Only had them since December. So if I buy more boots I will definitely try another style.

These shoes are extremely cool looking and the comfort as every Hoka has. The problem is that you can not walk stairs or drive with them on due to the added support in the back. I didn't notice the warning with the first pair (to big) I received.
I bet they are awesome for climbing. Just be aware.

Cartoon shoes. They don't look as funny in pictures as they do when you put them on. The heals are so large that it's not just crazy looks but it's hard to walk in them. Maybe they serve some, hidden to me, needs or athletic secrets, but no.

I wanted to like these boots, but they just didn't work for me. I have a pair of Sky Ka Ha boots that I really like, so I thought I would try these. But they were not comfortable, the tongue dug into my leg, I would step on the elongated heel area. Set them back for a refund.
