I have 3 pair of Hokas. I really like them, but you have to be aware that different styles fit different...a lot.

After one year of running about 1 hr, 4 Days a week the shoe internal components broke down. the heal cup was exposed and bruised my heal. Not what I was expecting from such a shoe.
The comfort during running was great but the material from Vietnam, not so good. The company does not have a solution to any kind of fix.

The shoe was too narrow, even in the Wide width. I returned them and purchased Keens, which fit perfectly.

I'm sorry I never returned these. These are horrible sneakers with a horrible fit. I have tried Hoka's in a half size smaller, a narrower width, my correct size and width as well as my correct size with a narrower width. These sneakers have NO room in the toe box until you go to a wider width and then, they fit but have NO support under the arch and make your foot swim within the shoe, forcing your foot to under pronate which has never been a problem for me before.
I have developed blisters and callouses when I have never ever done that before. To be honest, I take a 12 wide, sometimes 4x, but these sneakers are not designed well. 5 pairs now, tried and sent back, with this model being kept because I liked the look of it. My mistake.

After almost 2 years and hundreds of trail miles, my beloved Challenger ATR4s were well past needing to be replaced. They were as close to a perfect shoe as I had ever had on my feet, and I looked forward to more of the same with my chosen replacement... the Challenger ATR6. Unfortunately, the ATR6 did not live up to its predecessor. On the very first trail with the new shoes (same trail I had been on many times before), I ripped off a lug from the bottom. I also noticed some unusual gouging on other lugs. I had never noticed these issues on my ATR4s (just "normal" wear). I figured it was an anomaly, so I sent them back to exchange for another pair. First trail out with the second set... and this time one of the lug sections pulled back from the sole (bad adhesive?) and there was more gouging on some of the other lugs. This pair was also sent back as defective. So, after two failed attempts with the ATR6, I'm going to try a different model. Oh, the ATR6 feels more narrow than the ATR4, but I can't guarantee this isn't due to the ATR4 being more broken in. Overall, I've been happy with my other Hokas (I also have had 2 pairs of road running shoes from them as well), so I hope these problems aren't the new norm. I'll give the Stinson ATR6 a try.

Had to send back my recent purchase. Their version of a wide fitting is 2x. Couldn't even get my feet into the shoe. Rest of my family raves about the brand. Jury out for me as nothing will fit

This is significantly narrow than the 5 version. You can measure the difference across the forefoot. I have purchased 4 pairs of the 5 version. Luckily 1 pair near new the other still in the box. I will have to find a new wide (probably back to New Balance) at some point. Very sad, I loved the 5.

This review and rating is more about Zappos than the shoes themselves. I like the shoes but they don’t fit like a true size 12. However because I used a gift card and my wife threw out the box I’m stuck with a pair of shoes that don’t fit. The Zappos customer service was awful.

This is my third pair of ATRs and these are smaller and narrower. My second pair was gortex and you think those would be snugger, but these just fall smaller and tighter. The arch is not in the same place causing arch pain while my toes are rubbing on the sides. Disappointed because both my other pairs are like walking/running on pillows.

As sure as the sun rising in the east, when a shoe fits like a glove, the "latest, revised, newest" version will be a step backwards in fit. The ATR 5 in a wide width fit perfectly.
But the last on the new ATR 6 has been narrowed considerably (goodness knows why a wide width would be made narrower!) and now no longer fits. What a disappointment. Returning the shoes.

My 2nd Pair of ATR. This pair at 65 miles of trail use lost everything. No support, no cushion, nothing. I've put another 15 miles in them and my knees are killing me. So 80 miles in a month and this shoe is no good for running anymore.
They are going back.

While this shoe's overall design is amazing, the toe box is so narrow (could that the upper is also tight?). And yes, I got the wide version. I have other Hoka shoes where the toe box (wide version) isn't as narrow. While I really think Hokas make great and fun shoes, this narrow toe box has become a deal breaker for me, unfortunately. Moving on to Altra and Topo. Farewell, Hoka was the brand that got me from 10kms to 25kms, forever grateful.

The Challenger used to be essentially a Clifton with trail tread. That was perfection. There's a reason that Clifton is Hoka's flagship shoe - stellar arch support, and the perfect balance of cushion, responsiveness, and meta-rocker geometry. The only downside of the Clifton is that it isn't great for running on trails. The old Challengers used to be the (rather obvious) solution to this problem.
If you look at photos of the Challenger ATR 3 or 4, you can see that they used to look like Cliftons, with a nice supported arch. If you look at photos of the 5 and now 6, you can see that the shoe has been devolving into... I don't know what, exactly. Just a generic shoe that doesn't really have anything going for it. Seriously, I can't think of an application for this shoe that another shoe wouldn't be better suited for. The "road to trail" marketing has basically become a gimmick. I'd rather just run in my Cliftons on the trails.
Hoka, if you are really committed to producing this weird, purposeless shoe, then at least consider releasing a "Clifton Trail" or something like that - for those of us who actually would like a daily cushioned trail runner!

The first Hoka shoes I bought were the Men's ATR challenger 4, and they were great! After a year I went online to buy another pair, but found the ATR4 had been discontinued and replaced with the ATR5. I bought a pair. It was not as good as the ATR4, but acceptable. A year later I go to buy another ATR5, but again it's been discontinued and replaced with the ATR6. I buy an ATR6, but it is a DISASTER, no where near the comfort of the ATR4 & 5. The sole of my feet are sore after a 2 mile walk.
HOKA : If you're discontinuing a model, then at least replace it with a better version, NOT an INFERIOR one. Very disappointed, I'm giving up on Hoka.
