I'm shopping for a pair of shoes to use on an upcoming trip that will involve some hiking, but also for some day-to-day use. I ordered 5 pairs of shoes including hiking and trail-running styles, and this is the pair that came out on top for me. Others offered more protection (Keen Targhee EXP WP), better grip (La Sportiva Wildcat), or more comfort and a better stride (Altra Lone Peak All-Wthr Low), but these Brooks Divide 2 shoes were the best overall balance of what I was looking for with my specific needs.
First, the only two downsides: There isn't as much arch support as I would like (there is some, but it's less than many of the others I tried), and the tread is not as super-grippy as I might like for hiking across loose rocks or hopping from one boulder to another (but far more grip than your typical road-running shoe).
Comfort is excellent aside from the arch support issue (it's not so weak that I think it will cause problems), stability is great, and the overall appearance is much better in person than in photos. These shoes feel good whether standing still or walking - my one complaint with the Altra Lone Peak is that my weight was shifted back while standing - and the mesh material on top is soft enough that when it wrinkles up it doesn't jam into the tops of your toes like some thicker/stiffer materials would. The tread material feels like it will be durable and the tread pattern offers enough contact surface without blocks being so close together that they'll load up with mud right away.
I have only worn these around the house a couple of times, but they seem great so far, and happen to be the cheapest of the shoes I tried on as well, which is a nice bonus. (Additional meaningless bonus, they match my Darn Tough socks very well!)
One last really-minor gripe - I prefer a different style of shoelace than these come with, but they are good quality and don't seem like they'll loosen while being worn.
I'd also recommend:

Tough shoe that is nice to have if you run on the road and trails during workout. Not a shoe I want to run in if I?m doing only road runs because of the weight, but once you hit dirt and gravel it?s perfect.

I hike/run a lot of Desert trails in Arizona. This shoes has (only ) slightly less grip than the Cascadia but gains a big boost in comfort for running or longer hikes. When I hike more technical climbs in Arizona such as Camelback or Piestewa peak (2-3 miles out and back with some scrambling), I wear my Cascadia?s for maximum traction. However, for everything else the Divide is the best choice. I will be wearing these for my 17 mile hike in the Grand Canyon soon. The reason being is you?ve got to have some comfort for the distance hike but yet still have enough traction ~ this is perfect for that or all trail runs. After being a marathon runner, using only Brooks shoes the past 20 years, this is my favorite Brooks shoe so far.

Just a great trail shoe. I have 1600 miles on my last pair and needed a new pair for a trail race in Montana. They didn?t disappoint!!!

I was a distance runner until chronic plantar fasciitis and constant foot pain put an end to that. Now simply walking across a room can be problematic. I wear orthotics and prefer a stiff sneaker with lots of cushion. These fit the bill perfectly and make my feet feel good. Nice heel cup and arch support. Room for my orthotics, cradle my feet, provide support where needed and look good too. Sizing is spot on as well

Great all purpose shoe, urban and trail. Worked great as a single shoe traveling Switzerland cities and mountains. Not quite a hardcore hike shoes but enough traction to feel stables and all around. My only wish? Can we get more colors? Saw Divide 3 over here in Europe and all kinds of splashy colors. Seems US is lagging. Why?

Performs as advertised, which is why I am a repeat purchaser of these shoes. I use these on my road/path excursions, which are the primary area of my workouts. Will continue to purchase this shoe.

I don't see any improvement that can be made to this shoe at that price point. Very Satisfied. I am 65 and don't run anymore. I wear them to walk and workout on an elliptical at home. I wear them for casual dress also.

Run in these on pavement from time to time, work fine. Just finished a 100k ultra marathon. Despite the shoes getting wet, i only changed socks and I have no hot spots or blisters. Feet felt really good until the very close to the end. Can't ask for much more than that.

These are my first pair of Brooks after years with the company located in Oregon...comfortable! I highly recommend this brand as well as the Divide 2 (my co-worker's wife even has a pair because of foot problems). Back to regarding myself: I'm in fairly decent shape, a former collegiate athlete...not the gym rat that I used to be yet but getting there, never a true distance runner (I ran routes) so I am not at liberty to speak for distance runners but I ran for 5 minutes straight without foot cramping or any pain.

Great hybrid trail shoe. I like the rock plate and that you still have some tactility with protection from sharpy-edged rocks.

Great trail shoes for anyone. If you like how brooks Ghost feel, you will like these. Great traction and comfort. I haven?t tried the other trail shoes by brooks but I assume they are brooks quality. These have a nice roomy toe box without being too roomy. I run a lot of trails and these check the boxes for me.
