Wasn’t the same as my other other Of the same kind

Loved the look of this shoe but it just wasn’t a good fit or comfortable

I have been wearing this shoe for years, and it has been a 5 star***** item. Now they done went and changed the formula. The back slides off, and the toes slide too far forward. So unhappy. These are my go-to cabin shoes. And if I have to go out in the snow, they work there too. Cozy with support. Going to order the next size down and will let you know. So far, 0 for 3.

The shoe, which has been returned, fit about as usual for the Encore Ice. Since I am wearing a pair from a previous season a few years ago, and have worn out several other pair, I wanted a new pair to cycle in as the ones I am wearing give up. The chili red is cheerful, the white sheepskin/wool/whatever lining is what I prefer. To find a problem was most disappointing. The problem was in the cut of the shoe at the top. Both shoes were sloppily cut but the right one was far larger and messy looking. These shoes based on my experience fit fairly snugly as they come up to the ankle which is nice because they are warm and just right in the height/cut. Really sorry because I'm not willing to try another pair and will hope for a return of Encore Ice with a better fit next season. I rated the shoe to try to telegraph the problem. Make no mistake, please. Encore ICE is really a terrific winter shoe for my climate and although I've tried other brands and styles, I have never found one I liked better.

These were to be a replacement for several pair of Merrill Encore Ice that I’ve worn for years. Not to be. Not sure why Merrell fussed with what was pretty much a perfect winter clog. The new ones gap for some reason across the instep as you step off. And the shoe overall didn’t feel as snug or secure (shearling lining and cut of the outer suede), which makes me think it doesn’t come up as high across the instep and is definitely wider than their traditional M width. On the particular pair I received, the shearling wasn’t even a consistent thickness across the inside of the top of the shoe. (Almost looks as if it was the end of a piece of shearling that was thinner, but they used it anyway.) This seemed like a cheap knock-off version of the original Encore Ice. I’m not sure how Merrill corrects all of this, since the poorly designed version has the same name as the original great Encore Ice. Too bad. Sometimes you just shouldn’t mess with what was pretty darn close to perfection. The shoes are going back.
