I hike in Keens usually, and wanted a boot to wear to work because I spend a lot of time walking outside on flat ground during breaks. These, to me, would never be ideal for hiking because they have no arch support or cushion on the bottom, they basically are just heavy duty high top sneakers that are waterproof. Seriously, even though I like them for what I use them for, I can’t imagine wearing these on hikes. Just not substantial enough at all. Merrill makes some other similar boots like the Ontario mid- it feels more like a high top sneaker as well. I can feel every stone and crack in the pavement underneath these boots. Honestly I got them because they were on sale, and look cute. They do seem to be waterproof as I have tested them out.

I have long, narrow feet. Usually wear 8.5 narrow. These were perfect in 8.5 even in a regular width. They are comfortable right out of the box. Just did about an hour trail walk. No issues. I have flat feet - so for a moment I thought I might need to put my own insoles in. But turned out I probably don’t need to. Will have to see. But that’s a minor adjustment. I’m so happy to have found these. They’ll be perfect for the trail walks and hikes I like to do. Good tread. I like the mid shaft for ankle support. Love that they don’t feel stiff or need a bunch of break in. Overall couldn’t be more pleased. Plus they are pretty nice looking for hiking boots. Understated.

I have two other pairs of Merrell boots in my regular shoe size of 8.5. I should have paid more attention to the reviews that said these run small, because they are going back and I'm reordering a full size larger. These are both too short and too tight in the toe box. I'm hoping going up a full size will fix that, because I think I would like them otherwise. I can't really speak to anything other than fit, because they definitely don't! I will have to update once those get here.

These boots are very nice looking, but, they felt a little stiff & hurt my feet after the first & only walk. After the 1st walk I decided to return them because they weren't comfortable. The thing that really bothered me was the extra long shoelaces. I double tied them & pulled the loops so they wouldn't drag, but still, I fell face down on my flagstone walkway bc I tripped on the shoelace. My cell & sunglasses when flying & it hurt. I am in my 70s so shouldn't really be falling like a tree in the forest. These just weren't for me so I'm returning them & thankful Zappos has such a good return policy.

This is my 3rd pair of Merrell (Traveller 3 mid) and like the others I could order and be sure of perfect fit. I ordered a half size larger to put an ortho pad in. Comfy from day 1! I was a little disappointed in my last pair as they didn't wear as well as the previous pair which lasted almost 10 years (Mostly Fall till Spring). Do wish there was more all leather choices. Suede does not wear well.

Like all Merrill shoes/boots, these are terrific! These are rugged hiking/walking boots and will last for many years to come -- so, are a bargain! But, like all Merrills that I have ordered in the past, they run small. I wear a 7 1/2 shoe and had to size up to an 8/12. Also, like all Merrills again, there is very little padding on the foot base so I'm going to squeeze in an inner sole of some sort. It doesn't need much if you are going to wear a hiking sock but if not, an inner sole is needed. Basically, I love them.

I returned these as they were substantially narrower than other Merrell boots. Not comfortable with heavy socks.

I really wanted to love these shoes. Plenty of room in the front and toe box but the back of the shoe felt strange in the heel area. They are beautiful aesthetically but just not comfortable. I will be returning them sadly.

I have narrow feet so these feel good on and give me good side support. I had to have a half size larger to have enough toe room.

Helping confused people with all the sporadic reviews here. If you find them uncomfortable or dig in in the wrong places (Ie ankle bone, Achilles, tongue) just literally try the same size in another produced boot. I highly questioned these even fitting my foot type until I did exactly this and the current ones are very comfortable! I even notice trying two boots of the same size felt slightly bigger. Very odd but makes sense since they're made of leather, so DON'T GIVE UP & just try another boot until it fits well. I even felt one was defective and had pebble feeling lump in the sole which I read in another review too. I'm usually a size 6 and I fit a 7.5 so size up a full size if you don't want to wear thick socks, size up 1.5 sizes if you want to be able to wear thick socks.

Great shoe all around. I sized up based on reviews and the fit is perfect. Comfortable and works well as a hiking / walking / casual shoe. The bit of water I crossed through never got inside.

I've had lots of Merrell shoes that I have been happy with, consistently a size 9.5. However, these were too narrow in the toe box for me so I returned them.

I usually wear a 9.5 shoe and boot, but had to order a 10.5 in this boot. The boot runs very small.

Woah! for a wide, these were NOT wide. They pinched in odd places. I've had several Merrell's thru the years & these were not a keeper.

There is something not quite right about these boots. They don't fit like my other Merrell footwear and are not instantly comfortable like my others. The tongue digs in and is a nuisance. Definitely waterproof, though! Maybe they need a few more hikes to break them in, which Merrell doesn't usually require for me.

I have loved every pair of Merrells that I've ever had and wish this was not the exception. Fit seemed ok, but the shank and front of sole seemed thin, like there was a drop off. I was certain these would not be comfortable for backpacking- not enough front foot support. If you are using for light hiking or walking shoes, they might be ok. Seemed beefy for the elements.

It was a beautiful shoe, nice leather upper, and it would have been perfect. However, my feet are narrow, and it didnt really fit me well. So the endless search continues, to find the perfect fit. Merrell, can you take on this challenge?

I'm SO happy with these Merrells! They are perfect for my island home off Kodiak Island, in the Gulf of Alaska. Great for hiking thru the forest and also along the shores of my home. I'm totally satisfied.

I usually get the Moab hiking boots but decided to try these and, true to Merrell, they fit perfectly. I am planning to do the West Coast Trail this summer and I think between these boots and my Waterpro Pandi shoes I'll be set. I wear merrell shoes for work as well. I also bought a pair of Jungle Mocs for my elderly father and he loves them. They help him to feel secure on all kinds of surfaces. I only wish you still made casual leather shoes.
