Im 4ft 11. I got mine XS. The sleeve are a bit too long bit I understand that Im very small. I love the style the way the coat was made is neat compare to other brand you can clearly see that it has sophisticate pattern. The magnetic button seems to be good idea when you are in a rush, however I always got a problem when leaving a house because the magnet pull me in with my front door. The coat is warm and leave up to it price. I still think it a bit pricey. I think of it as a longterm investment because I can not tolerate cold very well. I live in NYC and when it gets below 30F this is the coat I will go to. I can not say it is a perfect coat because wind can enter through your legs. Another disadvantage is that the coat is a bit heavy if you took it off are holding them while in indoor area.
Apart from the minor disadvantages, I love my coat.

It is lighter than I thought. I am 5' 6, 143 lbs, the website suggests size M, though it feels too big when I received it and tried it on.

I bought this jacket for my girlfriend for her birthday in size Small. It was either that or XS. The only thing is that the XS was a little too small so she couldn't layer. The small was better but the only thing was that the sleeves were a little too long. She's 5' 1".. not very tall. However, I've never seen her so excited for a jacket before so I had to get it for her. Besides the sleeve length, she loves it!

I'm 5'4" 120lbs. And the sleeves we too long, weight was heavy and it was too big. Maybe get a size down but afraid it'll be too small and not enough space to wear under layers. I think I'll get a different coat. But the magnetic buttons are a win. Also, the faux fur already shed when I opened the package.

I tried this on in the store so I am only giving my review based on that. I tried on the Large size. I am 5'7 228lbs and it fit great. I did the fit finder on the website and it said XXL. This is a beautiful coat and the material feels lovely. I especially love the magnetic closures and the pretend gloves.

This coat is beautiful but the sleeves are WAY to long. I'm 5'7 and the sleeves hit past my fingertips. This has never been an issue for me- sometimes sleeves can be a bit short on me. There isnt a way to adjust the sleeves is around the wrist like some jackets. It's so unfortunate because the coat is perfect in every other way. I will be returning it.

This parka is a little bit too long and bulky for my height. It's a warm parka overall, but I would have to stick with my Morph jacket and Gotham jacket.

I love this coat! I've held out for the perfect cold weather coat and I think this one fits the bill. I stayed warm even during the polar vortex! My only complaint is with the zippers. Many of my North Face coats including this one are very tricky to get started with the front zipper. The side zippers are also kind of annoying since they are metal on metal (would have rubber or plastic coated them) to reduce noise since they jingle as you walk. Otherwise no complaints. Great product!

This is a warm coat. What I like it the most is that it has gloves hidden inside the sleeves. So you don't need to bring a pair of gloves. I usually pull them out when I feel cold in my hands and put them back when I don't need.

I love this parka. Purchased it just before a beautiful winter weekend away. Temps were sub zero, it was windy and snowy. I felt very comfortable and protected on the occasions we ventured out to play.
It's unfortunate the zipper is so difficult. It's frustrated me enough that I have consider returning the coat.

Love the warmth, however, three big complaints on design details: 1. The magnets are really a problem they grab earrings when you bend over so your ears are then trying to stick to the front of your coat?! Also grab headphone wires, etc. NOT a good feature. 2 zipper is still sticky to engage at bottom of coat after months of use, and dark so hard to see and 3) interior sleeve hand covers bunch every time you go to put the coat on.

This is my second coat from The North Face. I love my other one but after nine years I was ready for a new one. The coat is very warm and when I put the hood up even the coldest weather does not bother me. I love that it has little sleeve extension that act like mittens.
I am ambivalent about the magnetic closure on the coat . I like that it closes by itself as I zip my coat. I do not like that at times it will stick to metal chairs or pen chains. I am also a little uneasy about the warning that the magnets can affect my credit cards.
I have not experienced any thing negative with the coat I find it very comfortable and highly recommend it.

I like it! The magnets are cool, and i like the length. The black is cute with anything. Now im hoping it lasts to make its price worth it.

I recently moved from TN to OH and wanted to spend the money on a nice winter jacket. I was between Outer Boroughs Parka, Arctic Parka II, and this one, Defdown Parka GTX. The Arctic Parka was online only, and the material looked shiny, so I didn't get it. The Defdown is $30 more than the Outer Boroughs, but it has hand warmers built into the sleeves (which i thought were pointless until I forgot my gloves one day), and the magnetic snaps make the front of the jacket look cleaner without having to do the effort of the snaps. This coat is very very warm. I cannot wear it indoor more than 10 minutes without getting hot. Lastly, I like that the zippers for the legs are on the sides, and it's not a 2 day zipper as the only option. This makes walking easier. My only con is that the fur on the hood is HUGE and obnoxious. It's such a con, I really considered returning it. Because I will never want to use the hood unless I'm desperate. However, I am just hoping I get used to it.
For reference, I am 125lbs, 5'5'', small chested, skinny fat body type. The XS zipped but if you wear a thick sweater underneath it would be uncomfortable. I got a small.

Used to power walk in cold wet weather. Keeps me warm and dry. A bit bulky and the front closure snaps are not spaced properly. The bottom edge is too narrow and coat can only be used with zipper opened at bottom. Took the fake fur off as it was not at all attractive. The hood is oddly angled backwards and falls back unless tied around the neck with a scarf to stabilise it. The chin area closure is too stiff and covers the mouth if done up or rubs into the chin and face unless bent inside. I'm not sure who engineered this coat but it has serious design flaws. It's a costly disappointment from North Face.

I had the same version of winter coat from ~2011 which I loved so I was excited to get another. Pros- super warm in Minnesota winters, the fur is removable and has non-bending corners unlike my old coat. Cons- the overall size is quite large and boxy (definitely should have sized down), the pocket placement is kind of strange and doesn't feel natural when using them, and the shape at the bottom of the coat doesn't allow for as much movement as I expected. Overall, I've been quite warm which is the most important thing but I was a bit bummed to find some of the fit changes that were made to this coat.

I wanted to love this jacket but I had to return it. The sleeves are ridiculously long and doesn't match up with the rest of the fit. For the price of the jacket, I would expect better sizing.
I am 5'4" and 135lb. I usually buy a medium to size up a bit in jackets for extra layering. I am a medium in other north face products but this medium was too large and again, the sleeves were crazy.

This is my third North Face parka and it has its pros and cons. With a few tweaks this coat could be unreal. It is super lightweight and warm with a very comfy non-restrictive material. I wish it had some of the features of my other beloved TNF coats ie zipper attached fur instead of non-secure snaps, side waist cinches for a more flattering silhouette, and proper hand pockets below the bust. Love the comfort, wishing for better bells and whistles.

So, I bought this coat after obsessing over it for a while. After reading mixed reviews I decided to go for it with the intention of returning it if I didn't like it . First I'll start out with sizing as I didn't read many reviews regarding this. I am 5'5" ~185lbs.,& curvy. Normally I wear size 12-14. I decided on XL for layering purposes. It fit well, not too tight or too big & I can definitely wear a lightweight fleece underneath if needed. The sleeves are a tad long but if I push in the fleece sleeve cuffs it's ok. The side pockets are totally unnecessary as they are useless to hold anything & the top pockets that snap are more than sufficient & large enough to hold keys, gloves & a phone. I like that you can zip the coat up to cover your neck eliminating the need for a scarf. The hood is big enough to cover your head, keeping it warm & dry. The fur ruff is kind of flat, not the best I've had on other winter coats.
The biggest issue for me though is the weight of the coat. It is presented as a lightweight parka but it feels heavier than any other winter coat that I've ever had. It certainly is warm enough although we haven't had the coldest weather in New England yet. I'm sure I would be overheated walking around inside of stores & driving in the car.
All that being said I have decided to keep it because I got it at a great price & I do like it but I would not have kept it if I paid $500.00.

I was super excited about this coat, but I agree with other review, I am returning because the pockets are very awkward - way to low both the side and front and the arms are too long. The arm holes themselves are too high and not wide enough that I feel would be uncomfortable if I were to wear layers.

Attractive, love the way the hood fits over my head. Expected it to feel warmer. Just wore it for a walk in 30 degree weather and wished I'd worn another layer- very thin over the shoulders. Cool air in that area "ventilation"? So not quite sure yet and will be leaving tags on. Love the length. Good quality construction.

I had ordered this new 2020 version of the jacket and the 2019 defdown (when it was still in stock). The new version doesn't have zipper pockets on the outside - only the snap pockets you see in the photo and then open pockets to put your hands in under the snap pockets. It also doesn't have the side zips (to help with sitting down in the car like 2019 version). The zipper to get into the jacket is really nice and the fake fur is really pretty though so if zippered pockets are not your thing you will love this jacket. 2020 jacket is a standard fit and I thought it ran large. I am 130 lbs 5'4''. Normally I am a medium in most things but I always in a large in jackets so I can massively layer for MN weather and still move my arms. the 2020 version of this jacket runs pretty big and I would have had to return to get a medium. I am a zipper pocket person so I returned this jacket and kept the 2019 version. Also the arms in the 2020 defdown are longer than normal and do not have the built in hand gloves that people raved about in 2019. I will agree that the fabric is an improvement and was really nice a silent when walking. It is a really pretty jacket and it will keep you warm in the depth of winter snow.
