Thought I'd try this model again and I'm glad I did. I've worn all models of altra and am a huge fan of the lone peak and torin. But I'm now a convert to the Olympus. I wear these for trail, light road and to work. I'll be stocking up! Please don't change these! They are perfect!

I am a mature walker & sometime slow jogger who has worn versions of the Olympus for years. I use it both on multi surface trails & in the gym for cross training, since I have arthritis. It has always been my favorite all around shoe for comfort, stability, & holding its support over time. I think the latest version of the shoe is the best ever, since for me at least, it is more stable with no rolling to the outside on my worse foot--very comfortable, fits with my special insoles. Would definitely recommend it.

So hard to find shoes with the wide toe box and heel that fits. These do that and more. Extremely cushioned and supportive. I love the vibram soles -- great traction on most surfaces. Also love the green color . . . get lots of compliments. Totally comfortable right out of the box. I've been wearing mine for several months now. No complaints. Wish Altra would make shoes for more occasions -- leather short boots and shoes -- especially since my former go-to wide toe box brand, Keen, has destroyed their wide toe box.

I have been running in Altras since they first came out - I think around 2011. I just bought the Olympus 4 and it is amazing - I've probably put a few hundred miles on it and it still feels like new. The toe box is nice and wide (like it used to be - they got a little narrow for a bit there) so my feet can spread out like they are supposed to. It is the most comfortable, well made shoe I have ever run in!

Incredibly comfortable and durable. The quality of this shoe is great. I'm on my feet all day, walking, running... I feel ZERO discomfort at the end of my day. My feet feel like they are walking on a cloud that never deflate. Game changer!
I can't wait to take these on the trail and test their durability.

Shaped with a wide toe box and a narrower heel, they fit wonderfully. The sole provides lots of cushioning but also stability. Pretty close to a miracle!

I purchased the original design and LOVE the feel. I have been buying other brands in mens to get the wider toe box. These are SO COMFORTABLE! I purchased my normal size in womens to try the fit and I can actually wiggle my toes all over! Cushioning is good not quite as good as Hokas but I will give up some of the cushioning to have this wonderful toe box. My only complaint for which they did lose a star, the color coral is not as Orange as it shows on the website and I've never had colors being off on other websites. It's pink orange... BLECH

This is my 4th pair of Altras. They have been great for my treks on the Camino. I'm leading a group of women from Sarria to Santiago 100km We will see how my new Olympus 4 can handle the terrain.

Too wide only in heel otherwise I love them so far. If only I could go back in time I would of loaded up on the plush 4.5 Torins....I absolutely just love the fit and feel of them. They were my 1st pair of altras and are on their last leg but the most comfortable shoes I ever owned. Please bring back the torin 4.5 plush

I've been wearing Altras for years and love them. This year I decided to splurge and go with the more expensive Olympus and I'm so glad I did. In my old[er] age I have become more tender footed and the extra cushion in these makes walking these rocky hiking trails more enjoyable by far. I didn't pick the color I might have wanted because there was limited availability in my size, but that's a minor issue. Love the thin tongue as well - stays in place and feels light as air. Thanks again for the great shoes, Altra!

I'm a month in and wear these only for moderate hiking, 25-30 miles a week, rain and shine, on rocky hills.
PROS: Vibram soles have good traction and wrap up over the toe end, so I can bump rocks and roots without pain. Toe box is roomy. Cushioning is good, no bruises on my feet. Notch in back of sole seems to cut down on splashing. CONS: Altra's problematic cut-back tongue is in this shoe, making it extremely uncomfortable to use the lace-lock for narrow ankles. Laces are skimpy compared with the Paradigms. SUGGESTIONS FOR ALTRA: use the padded tongue (I want my feet protected on the top), thicker laces, and please, offer a high-top model. This shoe is much more supportive than the Lone Peak Hikers (practically high top slippers), but has no ankle support.

I switched to hoka for my past couple pairs of shoes. Only because I kept being unsatisfied with any of the newer atras I was trying on i run daily and i'm very happy with these!! happy to be back in altras , just hoping they don't wear out quick material wise The only part that's making me skeptical is that little ripple on the corner of your big toe pictured below

My podiatrist recommended this brand, and I bought two styles.
The toe box is HUGE, but my feet need that. Now I have tons of wiggle room. My only
complaint is the selection of colors is very limited and not appealing.

I bought these shoes the week before I left for hiking the Camino. I had tried five other brands of trail runners and each gave me terrible blisters and bruised toenails. I was a little nervous about taking these shoes without properly breaking them in but figured I would be wearing my sandals most of the time anyway. In the end, I wore these shoes all but two days in the trail. No break-in required. My feet felt like the was ample space (my foot is size 7 and I bought a size 8 shoe due to swelling) and cushioning. Great traction! I bought my own inserts to provide arch support. Wore the shoes through heat, rain, on slick rocks, paved roads - all was well. When I got home I bought a new pair!

I bought these because of a big toe injury & they are great for that. They run very big though and stretch out upon the very first wearing. I wore them once and had to return for a half size smaller. That size works very well and it also stretched out immediately but this time to my correct size. They do look a little like clown shoes to accommodate the larger toe box.

I LOVE Altra! Especially the footshape, but also the balanced cushioning. I own two pair of Lone Peaks, a pair of Timp 3s, and a pair of Superior 4s. But I needed a trail shoe that would handle ROCKS over a 50 mile ultra course, and decided to try Olympus. I also ordered another trail shoe from another company that was well reviewed by trail runners tackling this type of terrain. Both companies offered AWESOME return policies that allowed to me field test the shoes for 30 days, so I ran in them back to back over the same 4.5 mile rocky loop. Out of the box, the Olympus won. There is a reason that balanced cushioning and the foot-shaped toe box speak to me, and that I've been so loyal to Altra! Sliding them onto my feet and standing up was like coming home. But once I ran in them, I found that although the Olympus won when compared to my Timps and Lone Peaks (yes, the promised cushioning is there!) keeping the bottoms of my feet from every jab of a sharp rock or root on my test course, they didn't hold a candle to the other highly cushioned trail shoe I'd ordered. Of course both of the new shoes I was testing were less flexible and heavier/more clunky than my Lone Peaks and Timps, but the Olympus was MORE CLUNKY and FAR LESS CUSHIONED than the competitor. The other shoe also had more "bounce" and natural flow from step to step. I felt faster, and more able to confidently attack downhills with sharp or loose rocks. This reason, paired with the price tag* (Olympus came in at $35USD over the other trail shoe), I returned the Olympus. Sadly.
Fast forward to my event: for the most part I was very grateful for the shoe I picked. For the first 30 out of fifty miles, they did exactly what I wanted. But for the last 20 I was missing my beloved foot-shaped toebox so much. Altra, I'm so happy with you as a company. I'm so satisfied with your 30 day test run policy. I love your footshaped toebox and balanced cushioning profile....what I'd *really* love, though, is all of that AND a more aggressive cushioning game for those tough terrains! LMK if the Olympus gets a makeover in this direction, or if she invites a new friend to the party who specializes in rocky ups & downs!!
*TBH, if the Olympus' price had been the same or lower, I would have actually kept BOTH shoes!

I thought I'd run in these but find them best for hiking. They are tough! They feel slightly shorter than my Torins but not enough to elegant a different size. Comfortable, sturdy, good shoe. Laces are a bit short, but I'm guessing that's because people other than me used to complain Altra shoe laces were too long! You can't win them all. Altra's are the only shoes truly comfortable on my toes!

Long time altra shoe customer. First time with olympus. Works great on the trails but worried about how long they'll last/cushion will lastTried the special lacing and it made a huge difference in fit

This is my go-to shoe for long runs, love the cushion and tread and comfort of the shoe. There a couple small things that would make it even better. Different shoe laces, I'm constantly having to tighten up the laces as they constantly come loose, even with them double knotted. A thicker tongue would be more comfortable as well. Also the heel is a tiny bit to wide, but that hasn't bothered me to much. Just wore these shoes for a 50 mile race and had very little issues with them.

These shoes have a very stylish side view but unfortunately look lile clown shoes from the top. The Altra Paradigm 5 don't have this "clownish" shoe curve around the toe area so I kept those instead.

I purchased this style of shoe to use for my hiking. I find that the support as well as the tread work well for my hikes up into the mountains where I live. I would definitely recommend them for hiking as well as trail running.
