I've been wearing Escalantes for years, since the originals. I've gone through at least 7 or 8 pairs and am now on the 2.5 (which are the best/closest to the original since they started changing - the 2.0s were entirely too inflexible and firm). I'm getting close to needing a new pair of 2.5s but the colors are so bad. Please please get some better colors! I'm having a hard time pulling the trigger to order when the colors are soooo ugly. NOT pastels, and NOT the red/black/white thing. The Youth Kokiri has a great dark blue option and a neutral maroon... How about some normal colors like that?

Great for at work, as long as I'm putting some miles on them. I had to add cushion insoles, specifically Dr. Scholl's double air pillow. Now I can walk to work, walk at work, and walk home with only a little ache at the end of the day.

I love my Altra Escalantes. For everything. Running, crossfit, wearing at work all day. Writing this review in hopes that the next edition gives me a hole to heel lock lace. This is an essential addition to the shoe - I heel lock lace all of my running shoes and am disappointed that I can't with this shoe. I'm thinking about taking a hot needle through the fabric to make my own holes.

I found these to run very small. Barefoot they would fit, but with thick socks, they were too short in length. The width is good and the toe box was plenty wide. The sole was only moderately cushioned. If you like to feel the ground under your feet, you'd like them. They are pretty, but that's not what I buy a walking shoe for.
I'd also recommend:
SAS, Brooks, Ryka, New Balance

I love this shoe! I'm relieved. I only use my Escalante 2.5s (bought 3, 4 or more years ago) at the gym - I want them to last as long as possible. I had searched all over to find the pair I have and never found them again, till now. I asked for Altras at a local running store, & was shown these. Felt so good & familiar when tried on! Thank you! But, one disappointment- I agree with comment from: "Go back to the drawing board, please". Toe box is not as roomy as in past. Not quite as wide and not quite as much space above toes. Shoes fit me perfect otherwise! Thanks, Altra, for returning Escalante 2.5!

The size was perfect, but the soft mesh sides provide zero stability. It felt like my foot was sliding off the base/insole. Zero cushioning if you are looking for a very minimalist style shoe.

I love the shoe but had to give this shoe 4 stars bc the emblem is pulling away from the shoe after 2 short weeks of wear! Hoping the company makes it right since they offer a 30 day guarantee!

Tried these as I don’t like the later versions of my old stand by, the Torin. They are going to work but going to order Sole-brand high inserts for more support. I got the gray with coral and black - really cute for an Altra shoe and I keep getting compliments. I need these for the gym and road walks. I love my Altra Lone Trail for hikes. I’ve got a lot of various foot issues so a 4.5 rating from me is good. If you’re looking for a minimal zero technology shoe, this is it.

The comfort of these shoes does not make up for the strange look and super wide forefoot. These have a shallow fit in the toes, which made me worried about wearing them on long walks when feet swell. Returned. Still hoping to find a style of Altras that work for me.
I'd also recommend:
Xero, Teva, Sorel

I am only 28 but have flat feet and am already experiencing bunions :( I threw away all of my too-narrow shoes and started scouring the internet for something comfortable but stylish and all of the Altra shoes I've tried so far have been keepers, including these! True to size- I'm usually 7.5, but prefer gym shoes to be an 8. Highly recommend Paradigm 5 and Lone Peak 5, too, if you're on your feet a lot as these all have plenty of room in the toe boxes.

These shoes look a bit comical on, but once I wore them for a long walk their inner beauty shone through! Like walking on clouds. I'm a 9 and got 9us/40.5eu even though I was concerned about 40.5eu. Perfect

Fit & size were what I expected. Have bought this brand before. Was disappointed they did not make shoe with better support in WHITE. Much desired if need to wear these every day.

Unfortunately we will need to return the size 7.5 shoes since they are to small . When we ordered they did not have size 8s in stock so we tried the 7.5 s . We are willing to try size 8s when they are back in stock . Sincerely Brad

I bought these as a transition shoe to get my Plantar Fasciitis under control. I love them! They help my feet so much. My two issues with them so far is the shoe strings are very short!!! And I feel like they could be a little wider at the front. When I look down I can see my foot kinda pushing the material out. I ordered the right size and I do tend to have a little wider of a foot. But overall I'm very happy with how they do on my feet and will be buying another pair or two.

Although the shoe feels true to size in length and width, I wish there was a "wide" option. I have a naturally wide toe box and the typical shoe design, which narrows on both sides at the toe box have created foot deformity bunions. This shoe's design is much better for maintain foot health but if bunions are already present, a wide option can accommodate them better. The shoe's stretchy upper material is wonderful and does help accommodate my bunions however, I tried both the women's and the men's shoe and had to remove the insole in both for comfort. I choose to purchase the men's shoes because it is slightly wider. I sincerely hope a line of shoes can be designed by Altra for feet already damaged from the narrow toe design of 99% of shoe options. The fact that this shoe has a flat and more flexible sole is wonderful for feet. Muscles of the feet can engage and function better and the foot does not slide toward and jam into the toe box.

I waited to buy my third pair of Altra Escante when they no longer offered the black with black trim (allowed for work). Only carrying the black with white trim. Had to switch my travel Altra to my work Altra so I still had my walking shoes (the new black with white trim. Easy to break in. Thought the tip of the toe area shorter than my previous two pair and the laces were quite short.

Great for running, with moderate cushion. However, I wish it had another eyelet to tighten. After wearing fir a bit, I have to retighten.

I've been battling Morton's Neuroma for years and saw these shoes were recommended. I replaced ASICS Kayanos. So far so good. No foot pain after 3 runs. I'm hopeful I've found a solution.

Pros If you are a woman with slightly higher volume feet, this is the running shoe for you. Love the updates, super soft and flexible upper. Not a ton of cushion which I like, honestly feels like I'm wearing nothing. These are insanely breathable and SO comfortable right out of the box. I got the blue color which is pretty true to the website photo.. Cons Being so light, I hope that the durability holds up in the long run. Haha, get it?

I switched to Altra’s from Xero Shoes as I recover from a stress fracture in my foot. My doctor recommended that when I’m back up and running I need more padding. The lightweight shoe, wide toe box, and zero drop are just everything I love about running shoes. But, in my case, I found the tongue far to thin. It would bunch up and cause irritation to the top of my foot. I’m wearing orthotics while I heal so that might be part of the reason. I would be willing to sacrifice a little weight for a thicker tongue. Otherwise, the shoe is perfect.
