I have a wide foot so I gave the Escalante 2.5 a try. Length is cut a bit short-toes rubbing. Instep/Midfoot not enough volume. Upper could use more air circulation. Color, feel, zero drop, lacing were all great. Altra really needs to make a road shoe in a wide width !!

Logo started coming off within the first week and tread started coming off on week 3. I am not hard on shoes, at all. I sent my first pair back to the store and got a second pair thinking it was just bad luck. Got my second pair - same exact thing. Could not be more disappointed. I love Atlras. I can only hope this was due to a rush of manufacturing and not the brand starting to slack in quality. I'll be sending this pair back as well and I'll look to buy a pair of the 1.5 or 2.0s. I've never had an issue with the superiors but I was hoping for a good road shoe. Hoping they do better with 3.0.

Great shoe but the outsole is starting to come apart. Only wear them to work and have had for a month. This leads me to question the durability of this shoe. Maybe I just got a bad one.

After wearing them for around 2 weeks, my right shoes bottom sole is starting to come up. This wasn't due to excessive wear or aggressive running but to bad adhesive. Currently I have sesamoid it is and therefore I was recommended to try these shoes out. Only wearing them for 2 weeks is kind of concerning that with some light walking they are starting to fall apart

I have purchased the Escalante Racer and 2.5 for years. The latest release of the 2.5 could be my last. The tongue is very large and gets in the way and the toe box seems smaller. Very disappointed

Second set of Altra shoes both of them being Escalante but now I have the 2.5 version. The first ones lasted me a couple of years of constant wearing. Great shoe overall so I was excited to see the new ones. When I got them and tried them on they are super comfortable, as one review said like wearing a sock. The problem is they wear out about as trying to wear a sock outside. Within a week I noticed the reflective markings on the outside just started to peel away. The shoes still looked like I hadn't even worn them at the time. Then I noticed the tread that looks like bones on the bottom of the shoe started to peel away on the corners. One strip as much of half of it started to come lose within a month. I'm not hard on shoes at all, like I said at the beginning of this review I still have a pair that are two years old that I wore daily. So this is really disappointing. I have had my 2.5 now for 4 months and I know within another 2 months they will turn into my lawn mowing shoes (the shoes you don't give a dam about). Just sad overall. I do not think I will buy another pair of Altra shoes if their going to this type of production. Just my two cents.

Feels too bulky and the stack height is way too much, doesn't even feel like a minimal shoe anymore. It's at least better than the 2 which was terrible and even more bulky, but just bring back the 1.5 and don't change it, the 1.5 was perfect. Why do running shoe companies feel the need to update shoes every year? Also stop mixing colors that clash, blue with neon green looks disgusting! I don't understand why the running shoe industry thinks that runners are obsessed with neon green jesus christ

The 2.5's sizing is absolutely bigger than the 2.0's. I ran in three different pairs of the 2.0 with little to no issue (other than an extended break-in period for each one), and switched to the 2.5's and immediately got hurt. I suspected this was due to my foot not feeling as stable due to a bigger shoe with the 2.5's, even though I purchased the exact same size as the 2.0's. I had to take 6 weeks off to heal up, and eased back into it with my old 2.0's with no issues. However, I ran in the 2.5's again today, and I feel the same pains I had when I switched initially. I recommend going at least a half size down, or maybe even a full size down. Or maybe the 2.5's just aren't as stable as it's predecessors. I'm not going to attempt anymore with this shoe, but I hope Altra can bring back some qualities of the 2.0's (less flexible knit, more durability) when they release the 3.0's.

Had two pairs of the original escalante 1.0's. Those were great and got me up to 22 mi without any foot issues. But shoes wear out, so I decided to try the new versions. One run and I could tell something was different. The shoes were the same size as before, but they felt loose. I think the upper is too flexible and that was why. I'd buy the escalante 1.0 again if I could find it. I returned the new version.

I would like to start by professing my love for the Escalante line--I have had 5 pairs of various escalante shoes over the past few years, and felt that my running was completely transformed by the first pair I got, the 1.5. I had 3 pairs of them, ran over 500 miles in each. I also had a pair of escalante 2's which I liked as well, even though they were a bit stiffer. I probably logged over 600-700 miles on that pair! I feel like the pair of 2.5's I bought in January of this year have lost their cushion very quickly. Here's my point of comparison: I bought my first pair of 1.5's around new years of 2019 to train for a marathon at the beginning of April. I could definitely sense that it was close to time for a new pair around the time of the marathon, but made it through OK and ran for another week or two on them before replacing. I bought my pair of 2.5's around new years of 2021 also starting to train for a marathon at the beginning of April. They were mostly dead by March, with a similar weekly mileage that I put in back in 2019. The Escalante is by far my favorite shoe I have ever run in, but I am disappointed that the cushioning seems to be getting either thinner or weaker with each new version! I am going to look into other Altra shoes, but I really wish I could just go back to my original pair of Escalante 1.5's, which were the VERY BEST!!!!!

I just received the New 2.5 Escalante. They feel like a cheaper version of the 2.0. I purchased about 6 pair of the 2.0 and just went online to buy more before they're all gone. I recommended Altra to many friends and family but I will not recommend the 2.5 Escalante. Altra is losing me.

This was my first time trying the Escalante but not my first altra. As seems to be the trend, this shoe was too narrow. The upper is very soft and flexible but, when I tried running in them that translated to loose and sloppy. Tieing them a little tighter only led to the shoe digging into my heel. I used to love Altra but it looks like the brand is moving in the wrong direction.

The tongue of the shoe keeps slipping down into the shoe when I put it on my foot. I've had other shoes that don't do this because the shoelaces keep the tongue in place.

I've run in several pairs of Escalante 1 and 1.5s for years and loved them. Based on the reviews, I skipped the Escalante 2's and ordered extra pairs of 1.5s in reserve. I've now bought my first pair of 2.5s, and they're going straight back. The overall shoe size is pretty similar (size 13s) but the toe box has shrunk to the point where my big toe is scraping against the side even before I take my first step in them. Hopefully I can find more 1.5s somewhere. Why not just leave the foot shape alone? I thought that was the main selling point of the brand.

I had every color ever sold of the original versions until the 2. I read the description and thought FANTASTIC! They are going back. Well the upper isn't bad at all. Excellent actually. What isn't is the midsole and outsole. The outsole almost slaps when it hits the ground. I still have 1.5s that I use casually. There is simply no comparison. The 2.5 feels hard where the 1.5 was a more plush ride. Not awful just no longer my go to running shoe. But maybe thats the new mission. Selling shoes. Not selling best pair of RUNNING shoes the world had ever seen. Too bad.

The moment I tried the Escalante 1.5's on I thought I died and went to runner's heaven. Unfortunately, within a few weeks they started to fall apart. Altra quickly and graciously replaced them with a pair of Escalante 2's. No comparison. The 1.5's fit like glove: wide toebox with a snug midfoot and heel. The 2's do not have the same support or feel. They are longer, almost a half size (I wear 9 )more than the 1.5's, and the shoe is so roomy my feet feel like they're flopping upon impact. Like swim fins. It forces me into an uncomfortable and unnatural gait. I can't run in them. I really love Altra's concept of how a running shoe should be designed. But unfortunately I feel like a two time loser with Altra.

I have had countles escalantes and 1.5's, also racers. Stayed away from the 2.0 given the comments. No idea why the company has taken the turn it has now that it sold out to private equity. Narrow sneakers in on-trend colors is not what people were buying altras for. I was an Altra loyalist but I have been forced away.

I was a massive fan of the original Escalante. The combination of stretchy, sock-like upper, Zero-drop, and Ego foam was an absolute win. Despite the ugly colorways, I had three pairs of original Escalantes and ran over 500 miles in each, every mile a pleasure. I recommended them often and created at least a dozen new Altra customers. Sure, the one downside of the original was that my foot slid around a bit when cornering at faster speeds, or running downhill, but this was a necessary compromise. After all, I could have chosen any of the tight shoes with rigid uppers on the market that kept my foot in place, but I chose the Escalante every time. The 1.5 was good, too; the updated aesthetics were a nice touch. I had two pairs and have run over 700 miles in my last pair. When the 2.0 came out, I immediately bought two pairs. But the 2.0 took away everything good about the Escalante line. They were rigid, uncomfortable, and felt hot. Worst of all, they gave me blisters and callouses on the medial side of my big toes, and It wasn't just me. Blisters/callouses in the same location for my girlfriend, my friend, my cousin. This made the shoe *completely unusable for running.* The culprit, I surmised from feeling around inside the shoes, is a stiff rubber lip around the perimeter. I assume the lip is meant to stop the big toe from sliding over the platform. However, having the toe jam up against hard rubber is a torturous way to keep the foot in place. When I put the 2.5 on for the first time, I thought Altra had returned to form. The upper was soft and stretchy, the Ego felt right, but after two runs, I now have a blister on my toe again. I felt inside the shoe, and the asinine rubber ridge is still present. I will not be able to run in these shoes. Please return to the design of the exceptional 1.0 and 1.5. The original filled a special niche, tradeoffs and all. I would have bought them for life, but now I may never buy another Altra shoe again.

Painful. These irritate my deltoid ligaments immensely. If I walk or run any distance at all, my inside ankles burn and continue to hurt for hours. I'm no podiatrist, but they just don't seem to have enough sole width under mid-foot to heel. These completely lack any heel stabilizer and feel very narrow under heel (perhaps this is exasperated by the weird toe box). That might be causing my ankle to rotate inward and stretch my deltoid ligaments. This is my first (likely last) pair of Altras.

I have had 4 pairs of these over the last couple years, and they simply fall apart too quickly. The mesh tears away from the sole near the ball of the foot, and the foam sole deteriorates quickly. Overall, disappointing quality after 2 months of use. And they stink like no other shoe stinks. I have been actively seeking an alternative shoe with a similar fit.

I've never had this happen but the show said size 12 but the actual shoe was probably a size 10.

Used these shoes lightly for 6 months only for walking. The soles have already started coming unglued. Very disappointed. For the premium price I'd expect a much longer lifespan. Seems they used cheap adhesive.

These shoes do not provide adequate support in the toe box for forefront strike runners. I've been running for 30+ years and have never experienced foot and toe pain during a run like I had with Altra Running. I bought a pair of On Cloud Stratus and haven't looked back. Altra was a waste of money.

Why the 1 star review in "Overall"? It was to get your attention so you understand how this shoe is going to age and feels out of box. This shoe has zero side support. You are buying a very sturdy sock attached to a comfortable foot bed. It was comfortable for me. If you are moving straight forward in your activities then this shoe is for you. If you need lateral movement support or are prone to slipping off the foot bed in your activities this shoe is NOT for you. I have been consciously aware of my terrain when wearing these and if gets uneven I take it a little slower so I don't fall off the foot bed or roll my ankle. As the shoe ages the sole gets very flexible and bends with ease. The side decals pealed off after just a month. The bottom attached sole pieces started peeling at the edges after just 2 months. They never did come off completely but you could feel them catching on certain rougher surfaces. I suppose I could of glued them back but I wanted to see what they do. They never fully came apart but I also never caught them on something with any sort of force so I suspect others had different results. I'm coming to the end of this pair and they definitely developed a smell to them as well. I didn't have a smell issue with other brands I've worn. The rest of the shoe did hold up nicely. No tears in the upper "sock" portion and the fabric inside the shoe never did wear down to the padding underneath. That typically happens to my shoes. I walk my dogs about 5 miles a day 6 days a week so I've put at least 400 miles into this shoe. Knowing how this shoe ages I will not be buying another pair for dog walking. I am however going to buy a second pair simply because I find them comfortable to wear. So maybe if I travel on a plane (they are very light) or just general out and about store shopping use? I also feel these are over priced. I think they should be 99.99 or less. Not 130 dollars based on how quickly they started "breaking".
