Love this shoe and the fit. I run 6 miles a day. Wish they lasted longer. On my third pair and only got about 200 miles each on the first two pairs.

I wasn't sure what to expect but thought these might offer a different ride since I have flat feet. There is a nice bounce and the cushion feels good with a nice fit, too. Feels like good for short distance, but I may need to make a change for a longer distance run.

My initial impression is that the Escalante 2.5 is a super-comfortable, lightweight shoe. They're like slippers -- maybe even more comfortable than slippers. However, I'm not a runner, and I found them awkward to walk in. That's partly because I am not used to zero-drop shoes. They seemed to activate different leg muscles, which caused some pain (maybe this would go away, but I'll never know, since I'm returning them). There's plenty of cushioning for my taste, but not much support side-to-side. The combination, for me, made the shoes feel a bit unstable. It seemed like a poor choice for their intended purpose: long walks around the city. I also wasn't crazy about the style (meh) and the color (gray). Probably should have gone for another color - with more character, but I was thinking these might be my go-to shoes for summer heat, so wanted a lighter color. For the moment, I decided to go with Topo Terraventure 2, which has a bit of a drop (3mm), a slightly less-cushiony feel, more rigidity/support, and a more-rugged sole. Both shoes feature a wide, properly-shaped toe-box, which I love. Bottom line: Good shoe, maybe - but not for my purposes.
I'd also recommend:

This is my N-th pair of Altras, moving on from Escalante 2 to Escalante 2.5. The shoe is super comfortable, soft top, good cushioning sole. Traditionally for Altras, plenty of room in the toebox for the toes to splay out. Laces is the only problem. Laces are horrible, the plastic tips came off (pic attached) when i tried to pull them out to re-lace so that the tongue does not slide off to the side. Once the plastic tips are off, you cannot put these laces through the eyelets. I had to substitute by laces from my old Mizunos.

I have been wearing Altra Escalantes since they came out. The 2.5s have a smaller toe box than previous models. I don’t love that, but they’re the best option I’ve found for a zero drop road running shoe with a little cushion. Overall they’re good.

The soft upper is very comfortable, but there's a softness to the fit seems to let it move a little. It only really seems to be an issue on inclines, where the show seems to slide somewhat.

I see it as a well-constructed shoe with a good 24mm stack height for a 190 pound runner like myself. Also worth noting the shoe is designed not to encourage heel striking. Solid shoe. My third Altra shoe purchase in the past year or so.

Although I know there were a lot of detractors to the 2.0 version, it was one of my favorite shoes of all time. Unfortunately I think the 2.5 version has taken a small step back from the previous version. Maybe it's just me, but the 2.5 seems a little more snug, which in my case is not a good thing as I have somewhat wide feet. Also, it appears that all of the newest Altra's no longer have the loop for the laces running all the way down the tongue, but only have it for the last couple of eyelets; please bring this feature back as having the tongue slide around on the top of my foot is one of my pet peeves with all running shoes.

Great fitting! I like that they hug my foot. Take a bit of getting used to if you usually wear street shoes, but its worth it1

I've owned about ten pairs of escalantes as well as a pair of vihos and vanish xc flats over the past two and a half years, and the escalante is my favorite running shoe ever created. I do about 50-60 miles a week that can be anything from tempos on grass or the road, speedwork on the track, and long runs on trails. These shoes are great for all that stuff, however, they just don't last long enough. Every escalante I get, (except for my 2.5s) develops a hole in the side of the shoe where the upper and lower part of the shoe connect. Because of this, I'm only able to use each pair of escalantes for about 2-3 months which means that I have to get new shoes even though the tread is still good and the sole still has great bounce. I hope something can be done about this. I still love the shoes, and the flashy new colorways look amazing.

Love the fit, since I have an extra wide toe box and the upper material is flexible. However, very disappointed that you discontinued the black upper/ black sole option on your latest model. Really the only stylish option in your line.

I have put over 300 miles on the Escalante 2.0's and I have absolutely loved them. I haven't ran much in my new 2.5's yet. I notice they are a lot more flexible, giving your feet a lot more movement with ground contact and i find the cushioning softer. its not that i don't like them i guess i have to get used to them. Its a totally different shoe than the last model. they do feel lighter on my feet that i like. i have been wearing them everyday at work and love them for that. I'm about to start running in them more as my old pair are getting worn. i do love the fit and space in the front for sure.

Unlike every Altra shoe I've owned over the last 10 years, this one was not true to their normal 9.5 size. It is at least 1/2 to 1 size too big. I gave them to my son -- he's normally a size 10 - 10.5. Otherwise, the shoe is fine.

I've had so many pair of Escalante's. To me they wear really well. But the 2.5's are just the worst colors! Blahhhh!

These shoes feel amazing each and every time I put them on. They are soft and comfortable and don't believe I've ever found a more comfortable shoe to wear. However, after only a couple of months the wear and tear is similar to a year in my prior running shoes. I think I will use these as my day to day shoes, but the laces are also very long and will need to be replaced to keep from driving me crazy.

I have read so any reviews on the new Escalante 2.5, and I was anxious to try it out for myself after the disappointing 2.0 release. I wore through a dozen pairs between the 1.0 & 1.5, putting anywhere from 250-250 miles per pair. They were light, flexible, bouncy, fun. I used them in training and for races, I'm a 2:50 marathoner FYI. When I got he 2.0 it was rigid in the mid-foot, no flexibility, and it didn't have any bounce, the heel was also loose, it lost that perfect fit the previous models had. Having gone through hip labrum repair surgery in September, I was putting in most of my miles in old Kayenta, Vanish, & Duo models prior because I hated the 2.0 that much. Now that I'm back to running I was able to lace up a pair of 2.5s, and I was presently surprised! They had the good notes of the 1.5 & ditched a lot of the bad in the 2.0, but still room for improvement to bring it back to form. I think there are two items that if fixed would make this a better shoe; go back to the older thinner & perforated insole of the 1.0 & 1.5, the one in the 2.0 & 2.5 is thicker, harder, and one solid piece, secondly bring back the chevron detail to the rubber, The 2.0/2.5 are solid without any flex points, I think those two things would bring the show back 100%. That said, I will be back to running a majority of miles in the 2.5, I'm happy with the update and it has brought joy back to my runs. Nice job with this fix Altra, can't wait to see the 3.0!

Midsole and upper extremely comfortable. Width and length seemed to fit properly. Only problems: 1. The shoe's missing the top eyelets that would be especially useful with a stretchy upper. 2. I can barely tighten the shoe enough to accommodate a medium volume foot which has never been an issue. I worry it'll stretch out too much after 50+ miles to remain viable.

I feel wasteful, I have a fairly new pair of Escalante 2s that are now being ignored now that the 2.5s came out. The heel on these new ones feels so much more supported. From heels to mid foot they feel the perfect width to then widen for the toebox. The toebox is perfect balance of width without being to spongy and floppy. Perfect for my track speed work days.

I love the Escalante 2.5!!! The Escalante 2.0 wasn't a terrible shoe, it lost what had made the Escalante so amazing. It just had a stiff midsole that wasn't springy, and the upper wasn't very breathable. The Escalante 2.0 was like a heavier version of the Escalante Racer. The Escalante 2.5 brings back that springy flexible midsole that everyone loved about the original Escalante. I have just about 200 miles on my Escalante 2.5 and have ran distances up to 16 miles on them. I feel like they will easily go 500 miles. The only negatives of the Escalante 2.5 are 1) I have lower volume feet so they are cinched about as tight as they can go and I can just slide them on and off without untying them. Please widen the space laterally between the lace holes. 2) The stretch of the upper makes cornering at higher speed somewhat unstable. Replace the back 1/3 of the Escalante 2.5 upper with the slightly more secure back 1/3 of the Escalante 2.0 upper to provide a more secure fit in the heel and prevent rolling an ankle. 3) The colors options really suck. The coral of the women's color options is he only nice option. The colors options of the 2020 Escalante Racers are so much better.

I wrote a review awhile back but I guess it did not save. So, I was pretty annoyed the last year of two at Altra and thought I might have to give them up. So many reviews saying, too narrow, no longer the same fit, including mine. And then they made the Escalante 2.5. I've walked in my first pair for about a month. I ordered two more pairs! Possibly the best fit I've ever had from Altra. Foot shaped and wide enough for most feet! Think Altra is paying attention to customer reviews! 4 stars for now, I'll update to 5 if the wear is good!

I was just about to give up on Altra after wearing numerous versions of Torins, Instinct, Timpt, Provision, Lone Peak....The last year of so they have gone way too narrow and weird fitting. I have 3 different pairs that I am sending back. Then, they reinvented the Escalante. The 2.5 is one of the best fitting Altra's I have worn. It's too early to give it the full 5, but I'll give it 4 for now and assume they will wear out way too quick like just about any other Altra has in the past. Viva la Altra, check this one out!

Owned many different pairs of Altras, some suit me better than others. I absolutely LOVED the Escalante 1.5s but was no longer able to find them on the internet in my size. Couldn't be more pleased with the fit and feel of the 2.5s after not digging the 2.0s so much. Highly recommended for fans of the 1.5s. Would give them 5 stars but they're priced a bit high in my opinion. Regardless, I'll pay the price for comfort as I'm on my feet for 10-12 hours a day. Thank you for listening to your customers Altra!

Im pretty happy with these. Ive spent a lot of time with my Escalante 1.5s. The stretchy upper is back which is what prevented the 2.0s from working for me. My one issue with the 2.5s is the removal of the rear most eyelet. This means I cant use a heel lock with the laces to prevent my heel from slipping. Im going to try a pair of Torins to see if they are a bit more solid, but right now my backup plan is to just put in the holes I need. The shoe feels so comfortable otherwise.
