This is my go-to base layer for fishing steelhead in Michigan. We start early in the morning, and temperatures are in the 20s. I add a second Smartwool t-shirt over this base to provide an effective cold barrier under my insulated waders. Unlike cotton-based layers, wool breaths as things warm up in the afternoon. Smartwood socks and thermal bottoms round out my gear.

Great fit and appears to be be quality craftsmanship. I will be testing in Iceland in early April, so performance has yet to be fully evaluated.

Great fit and warm

This base layer is more comfortable than I expected. I can often just wear it without putting a shirt or sweater over top. The winter moss heather is a very nice shade of green, which is not so easy to find.

I normally wear a medium but got a large cause I wanted a looser fit and to counter potential shrinkage. But also I'm not just using it as a base layer.

Love, love, love this pullover. It's my second one. (This one is green; I already have the charcoal). It's super comfortable: both warm and cool. It fit's like a compression shirt, but not confining. It's wool, so it gives, but also keeps its shape. Durable enough to workout in, but nice enough to wear by itself just walking around.

Perfect cold weather hiking base layer top. Just the slightest bit less pleasant on the skin than a good synthetic for me, but I'm not accustomed to wool since I'm from SoCal, bought a set of these for an upcoming summit trek and they're perfect for it.

This is my cold weather base layer. It is very comfy, smooth, and warm! Great base layer!!

Quality item. Comfortable. Noticeably warmer than synthetic. Worn several times and doesn't stink.

I could outfit a small town with the number of base layers I've tried over the years ... until now. I will be donating all of the other stuff and loading up on this product. The MOST comfortable against-the-skin product I've ever worn. Silky smooth but toasty warm while still allowing the comfort across all temps that merino brings to the equation. My only regret -- I didn't find it sooner. 5 10" 185 lbs and love the fit of a large.

I use the base layer top for backpacking and it is super soft. I like the care instruction of drying in the dryer on low and not hang drying like the icebreaker wool. Now, I plan on purchasing the Smartwool leggings too.

Love this underlay....great fit and great style

I use the product for hiking, cool weather outdoor activities, or lounging around the house. It's very functional, stylish, and comfortable. I needed a base layers, and this is top tier. Unfortunately, the cost is also top tier. Around the same time I bought this, I found similar (though not Merino wool) base layer tops at UNIQLO The BLOC for a fraction of the price that are nearly as capable and comfortable.
