Three stars because the shirt seemed like a good underlayer, but buying online was a mistake. I measured myself and followed the size chart, but the shirt was a size too big

I realize this is supposed to be a base layer but it is really tight. Had to return for two sizes larger.

The "marmalade heather" looks like a great deep yellow online but is brassy and not flattering for me. I have 3 others from last year and love them. I don't know if it's my computer or photographers lighting that throws the color off. I wish I could get this in ivory / off white and / or the yellow I see on my computer. This is my favorite base layer, but would like to have in flattering, beautiful colors.

I ordered white as in the picture and received tan and some color in it. It's not what it was pictured I was disappointed in company's dishonest with color wise.

I own three of these, purchased just over a year ago from another retailer. I recently contacted Smartwool customer service because one of them has already developed a hole (despite washing on cold, delicate, hang dry, front loader, in a mesh bag, with Laundress wool/cashmere detergent, stored in a closed container, not worn more than 4 times and nowhere more strenuous that a chair/sofa). The replacement link would not work, so I emailed CS all the info they needed, including the receipt. Despite this, they insisted on my filling out the guarantee form (they sent me a new link) and insisted on photos. That wouldn't be so bad, except that then they sent me a "decision" that this item was not eligible for the guarantee because it was MANUFACTURED more than 2 years ago. Yet the website clearly says it is 2 years from date of PURCHASE (and what was the first thing I sent them? the receipt). It has to be from date of purchase -- can you imagine -- they manufacture something 6 years ago, it doesn't sell and sits on the shelves, you only own it a year, and they get out of honoring their guarantee on that technicality? This is my last purchase from Smartwool -- poor quality (these shirts are the scratchiest wool -- nowhere near Icebreaker/Minus33 -- and then there's the hole), poor customer service, and poor fit (not these particular shirts which fit pretty well but I just returned a vest, a shirt, and a fleece to another retailer all because they ran small and yet somehow the sleeves were too long on at least the fleece).

I used to wear the old style, with set-in sleeves, all the time as a classic-casual top. I travel a lot, and it was super convenient. Now I wear the base layers as base layers, sadly. Beautiful color!

Great fit, fits true to size. The wool is another story, it's a bit itchy. I was hoping for a softer feel, but alas the search continues.

I purchased this base layer recently in the bright blue color. I'm not sure if the fabric or factory where the base layers are manufactured have changed, but I found this top to be very itchy. I have merino 250 base layers in other colors that I purchased years ago, but have never had a problem with the fabric being itchy.

I wanted to LOVE this shirt and I didn't. I'm roughly 5'8" and 118lbs and ordered small (I have a very small midsection and long torso). It fit well in the bottom half (not skin tight but not baggy), but I feel like I needed a bigger chest for it to fit right from armpit to armpit (it was too big). It's a very warm shirt (my goal, because I'm cold nearly all the time), but it wasn't as comfortable/soft as I had hoped. I have another Smartwool sweater that feels soft to me and isn't scratchy (and it's 100% wool, too), but this shirt feels more stiff/rough (not so soft) to me.

I generally buy Hot Chilly's brand tops for warmth during the cold season. Please note, the color you see on screen is NOT the color you receive. I was expecting a bright purple. The in person color is a muddy looking almost navy purple. The fabric is kind of itchy. The sizing runs about half a size bigger than normal. The shape is "box like". If you have large, athletic shoulders and a square waist, this is your kind of top.

I like it, but the sizing is weird, especially compared to the jacket.

The sleeves on the crew top are ridiculously long. To the point of being ridiculous! Why did Smartwool make the sleeves so longggg? Does Smartwool think that everyone wants to wear this crew top with these long sleeves???

The one pictured here is not the one I purchased. I got one that looked purple online, and several shades brighter than the one I received, which is just too too dark. I wouldn't have ordered it if the online picture had shown something closer to the true color. I will be returning this one for a refund. And what a bother that is.

The shirt is a little thin/light. It could've been a little heavier. Also the sleeve length is just too long. They should really consider making it shorter especially for petite size people meaning people who are 5 foot 2 1/2 inches in height and shorter. The sleeves is too long and to get it altered is going to cost a lot of money because alterations are very expensive. Everyone is not tall and everyone does NOT have long arms.

I've returned this item because of the fit--the sleeves are too long, and my arms are very long, the torso is also too long, and because of the cut around the shoulders it looks awful on.

The design has changed. There are no longer shoulder panels and the fit is not as nice as it used to be. still great fabric but not what I thought I was buying

The cut on this base layer is really tight around the mid section. It's not the same cut as previous shirts I have purchased. The wool is a bit itchy which it hasn't been in the past. I had to exchange a Medium for a large even though I wore a Medium in the past. Lastly, I use to wear this shirt as a T-shirt on it's own. My past shirts hung nicely, not too tight and not too lose. Not sure if the large will work as a t-shirt. May have to wear under sweaters.

I like Smartwool products. This one was listed as being white, but it had a lot of pastel threads in it. I'd love it if you could make a white base layer. Had to return it.

I have bought Smartwool products in the past and have really loved them. They have always fit me well and I love the colors and patterns. However, this year, I tried on 2 of the Merino 250 tops and they are MUCH too long. I am 5'4" and wear and XS and compared with tops from prior years, these come much further down. There is way too much material to tuck in and it comes down well below my waist to leave out. I'm disappointed as I have otherwise loved these. Have you ever considered petite sizing?

I loved the color and when I got this it fit great, but within a few hours of wearing it (just normal wear around the house) it stretched out into a baggy frumpy mess. Now I'd have to wear it *over* the sweaters I bought it to go under for it to fit right. I can't believe I spent so much money on this when I've got to relegate it to a pile with my $15 bargain sweatshirts. Very disappointed.
