Love the look but like others have said the color is gray rather than tan. The water that hits the shoes slowly gets in. The first thing to go wrong with the shoes was the back of the shoe where the ball of your foot rolls. Wore out after 2 months since I walk all day for work outside. Great shoe.... while it lasted.

I used these shoes as a hiking shoe and after only a few hikes as other reviewers have stated the mesh material at the toe of the shoe begins to tear. Really like they style but disappointed that after placing stress on the shoe the quality folds. Would recommend as a casual shoe would not recommend as a hiking/active shoe

Really happy with the comfort of this product. But unfortunately, after less than 5 wears, the mesh material by the toes is frilled and becoming unthreaded. I expected the durability to be a little stronger, but will continue to use on light hikes. Just a bit disappointed.

I was really excited when I bought this shoe. Great fit, and loved the style. But I bought these specifically for a hike/trip in Colorado, and by the end of the day most of the mesh along the toe was ripped and fraying. The water proof membrane worked great, and the shoe was extremely comfortable - but after one day of hiking, the toe began to deteriorate. Was disappointed to spend the money I did, and for that to happen. Would not recommend for any hiking outside of a paved trail.

I had very high expectations for these shoes because I was wanting to try the Columbia OutDry system out and these shoes looked like they would make great daily drivers being stylish and waterproof, but I ended up a little disappointed. Columbia was trying to make a shoe that works as a hiking shoe and a comfortable commuter, but they missed the mark on both (though I love the idea and that they tried). As a comfortable commuter, these would be phenomenal shoes except for how stuffy they are. After wearing them more than an hour or after any physical activity, my feet became noticeably sweaty (more than my Adidas gore-tex shoes, and my work boots). Sweaty shoes don't bother my all that much, so the reason these are 3 star shoes in my opinion is their hiking ability. As hiking shoes these are incredibly comfortable for walking, but anything more than that and they fall short. My first outing with these shoes was to the beach on a rainy day, and they are certainly waterproof, even up to the ankle (good job OutDry). On my second outing I did some hiking, bushwhacking, and spelunking in Washington; a lot of hard use activities. I notice that for intense use the back of the heel protrudes way too far past the heel, which lead to the shoe getting caught on rock ledges and tree roots if you're not paying attention. I've also noticed that the traction of the soles is not up to my standards. Walking on wet logs or rocks I felt more prone to slip in these shoe than my Adidas Pros: -Waterproof -Comfortable -Stylish Cons: -Not suited for hard use -Sweaty feet -Poor traction -Poor durability

The shoes look great, but the feel is not the same. Must be worn with socks that come out of the top of the shoe. Otherwise prepare for skin on the backside of your ankle to be rubbed raw!

I enjoyed the shoes, but ordered them in the canvas tan because I really liked the color style and was very disappointed in the fact the colors did not look like the picture for the said colors that in fact the shoes I received should not be considered canvas tan but canvas grey and boring

Sizing ran small for me. I can fit nearly all Merrills without sizing up or requiring a "wide" size. My normal size is an 11 across a whole bunch of shoe and boot styles. Tried both the 11 and 11 1/2 and can't make the width work. Not a condemnation of the shoe. I liked the idea of combining sneaker like comfort with waterproof versatility. But, if you want a larger foot platform for warm socks or if you simply have a slightly wider foot, this is definitely not for you. Now, for those wasted shipping charges on returns...

I bought these shoes a couple weeks ago and wore them on a rainy day to test them out. Although they are very comfortable, water did go through and made my socks wet in the toe area. I took them off after an hour and felt inside and they were really moist which is disappointing considering that they are sold as a 100% waterproof shoe. I do not recommend wearing in rain or while rinsing off your car. Very disappointed.

Disappointed this shoe is NOT 100% waterproof. The design is stylish, but I bought this shoe for a specific purpose.

I wore these shoes on a 5 mile hike, they have poor ankle support, and I got turf toe. Unfortunately, I think I'm better off in regular running shoes

I bought these a couple weeks ago and wore them to work once and then on a hike. These are extremely comfortable shoes to walk around on, but the fabric already has broken down after one hike! The front part of the show is already fraying and it wasn't even a difficult/extreme hike. Pretty disappointing

This shoe made me feel like I was tipping over the entire time I wore them, someone might get used to them but I couldn't. Theyre also heavier then I thought they would be and chafe the ankle if wearing shorter socks.

The "canvas tan" is not at all tan but is a boring grey color. If you look at the bottom of the page at "the feed", this is what they REALLY look like. They are grey and a dark blue. Columbia missed the mark as the shoe shown on the website is amazing, the real life color way tho is very blah.

Had these shoes and they are very comfortable, but I work in landscaping and within a week of walking through wet grass in the morning my feet are soaked. They are not waterproof and that's the main reason I bought them.

While the style of these is excellent and it is a generally comfortable shoe (barring some discomfort from the large metal button on the back of the lace loops, and a pretty hard mid-sole). The main issue with these shoes is that they are marketed as being 'Completely' waterproof. I bought them for that reason. I don't hike in the wilderness so I definitely thought that these waterproof hikers would meet all my urban wet weather needs. Within a week of owning these, I walked through some grass after a light rain and my socks were soaked. I spent no more than 5 minutes on a wet surface before I was able to feel the water. This Outdry label is bogus and I may have to see about returning them. If you're buying for cool looks, go ahead. But for functionality? Look elsewhere

Been waiting to get these since they came out, and I have to say now that I have them I am super disappointed. They are a very poor design if you plan on doing any walking in them at all. The inside heel section of the shoe is so rough I was starting to get a blister after only a few minutes of walking in them. I wouldn't buy again.

I love the fit, size was perfect...My feet sweat so much in them, that after a week my feet, socks and shoes stink (old musty shoe smell). I want to return them!

I live in a rather rainy part of the country and I was hoping that these would be the answer to my soggy walks to and from work. During the first two months of use, the shoes lived up to expectations with great grip, comfort, and waterproofing. However, after two months passed, the waterproofing dramatically deteriorated. I started having damp toes after each walk and it has now gotten to the point where they are no more waterproof than a pair of flip flops. I want to love these shoes and I hope Columbia can fix the issue.

I am not a strong, heavy or distant runner. I barely did a few hikes in these before they started to tear away from the sole. The toe box and webbing became completely frayed and torn after only a month of wearing (I'd say less than 20 miles of walking and hiking). For an outdoor company, for the price, for how extreme they seemed to callout that these are, they weren't. Returning today and restarting the search for a new hiking/running shoe. (I don't think the photo shows the extent of where the brown material was coming away from the black material. But you can see the black webbing frayed.)

I heard about this shoe via email from Columbia and ordered a pair on the day of release. Once I got the shoes, I gave them a quick go. For the life of me I couldn't find a single reason to enjoy them. Although they have the guts to be a versatile shoe, they came up short for my needs. I was looking for a "shoe that can do it all". For everyday use, both street and trail. And on paper, that's what Columbia claims the Shift is capable of. However, it was a much more rough ride than I had imagined. Hence the title of my review. The full knit upper collar rubbed into my foot something fierce, even with socks. I really tried to to like these shoes, especially with the sweet colors. But in the end, it just didn't feel right. I returned my pair for a refund.

I'll start with the good: I've been looking for a shoe like this for a long time. Can run/hike out in the woods, but wear the same shoe to work or around the city. They are cool! They are waterproof! Made with good materials but... The bad: they hurt my feet like no shoe I've ever bought. They dont hurt because they are too small, they hurt because the back pull tag and liner are rough and rub the skin raw. I included a photo of my blistered achilles and I was wearing socks too! I had to eventually put moleskin on to help. I want to love these shoes, I want to keep them cause they are cool and serve a specific purpose; but I cant. They hurt to the extent I cant walk a quarter of a mile, and certainly not a trail.

These lasted less than 3 weeks hiking. The material came apart at the toes area. If you are just walking a sidewalk, go ahead. Otherwise these are not a good choice.

The quality of this sneaker is extremely lacking, after less than 6 months of use the heels are completely blown out on the inside rendering the shoe completely useless. They are also definitely NOT waterproof, they aren't even water resistant. SPend your moeny elsewhere.
