Good shoe. Comfortable but wish it was less firm and more like the speed assault boot only as a shoe.

This is my 3rd pair of these shoes. They are awesome. I'd give them 5 stars but I feel like lately the soles wear out quicker than the older ones.

I loved this style, very versatile. However, as a woman with shoe size of US 6.5 (US M 5.5) I have very limited selection of color. All I want is a pair of BASIC ALL BLACK xa pro 3D, but women only have the "colorful" option. Salomon, please include women's shoe size for basic colors like all black. Not all woman wants only colorful shoes.

I've purchased and worn XA Pro shoes for several years starting in 2016. This is the first time I've noticed a slightly different fit. The toe box feels narrower than previous versions I've worn, in fact the entire upper feels different. Previous pairs felt great right out of the box but, not these. Hopefully a prolonged break in will help. We'll see.

I bought these a couple years ago to use as a early season hunting and trail running shoe, they are very comfortable and did the job well, but the tread doesn't last long on pavement, after less than a hundred miles the heels were wearing down, but on the dirt and rock trails they were great and I still wear them as my kick arounds with well over 400mi on them. I'd buy them again if they'd ever have my size but I wouldn't run on pavement. They are not a road shoe.

The ONLY negative is the quick lace! I have extremely high arches and plantar faciitis in my right foot, so this shoe has proven I have to be able to do some creative lacing on my own. But... I have still worn out three pairs of these in the past 2.5 years doing heavy yard work on the 1.5 acres of my new/old house. I have to adjust the laces during the day, but it's been absolutely worth it -- this shoe has great support and perfect arches for my feet, feels sturdy and doesn't slide around on my foot even on a steep bank, and the ankle padding isn't excessive. But now that I'm through with the yard and will be in maintenence mode, I'll be looking for a replacement with real laces. And as a longtime hiker, I would have definitely chosen these as trail shoes if only there were real laces. I just took a look at the Salamon site, and they've switched everything to this style -- so even though their shoes fit me perfectly, I won't be able to buy the brand anymore. Disappointed!

Salomons have long been my favorite trail running shoes (and some of their road shoes have been good) with the Speedcross and XA Pro my go-to's. I received a pair of the v8's a few days ago and after wearing several times them indoors took them outside for the first time today. If the objective was to lower the weight, the construction appears to do that while remaining reasonably robust. Based on appearance, these will take a lot of wear before they tear but some reviewers say this isn't the case. Time and miles will tell. My suggestions would be a bit more forefoot cushioning and the full "wings" 3D heel architecture as with the old XT Wings and XA 3D Ultra. My wish, if given one, would be for Salomon to return to making adventure trail shoes, such as the XA 3D Ultra and other earlier models.

I bought this shoe in *2019 for travel which for us can include: hiking in various settings and pounding the pavement in the city. I specifically got this non-waterproof version because I wanted a summer shoe. It did not disappoint. It was comfortable in super hot weather and supported my feet over many miles. Sadly, the tread wore down quicker than I expected. I had a near bad slip in the mountains last year because the tread was almost slick. The rest of the shoe is still going strong, so I bought the X Ultra 3 to replace them and now they'll be just-for-dry-pavement shoes. *I realize that they may have updated this shoe since 2019, but it looks identical to the current shoe.

these shoes are light and good for dry hikes and breath great nice to have more room for your toes but they are still tight in the heel if socks are a bit thicker

I run trails in a four seasons climate. No one shoe can do it all for me. I was looking for something to slot in below my S/Lab Cross but well above my Sense Ride, so I could feel more comfortable and confident in wetter conditions and on more technical trails without crossing over into a waterproof shoe. I like this shoe in that it gives me the grip and protection I was seeking. However, the fit is a bit more roomy than I like/enjoy. Additionally, this is a beefy shoe, and you are making a tradeoff in terms of responsiveness vs. protection. I learned through this process in technical terrain, I would prefer nimble and responsive to higher levels of protection and stability, but to be clear I am choosing one side of the tradeoff. Lastly, I felt the weight of this shoe. As neutral gait mid-striker, the weight and distribution favors a heel-striker, and that is not my thing, but it might be yours. This is a very good shoe for the right person.

Overall not bad. Not quite the same as my Salomon hiking boots. Those were a perfect fit on first try. These shoes are good, but not great.

I purchased these shoes for hiking and I could only try on a 12 or 13 in store and the 13 was too big and the 12 was too small, so I ordered the 12.5 online. The shoe was perfect except for the heel. I have big feet, but a really narrow heel, so when I would go to run or take a step my heel would slip too much to where it would rub a blister if I continued. I wish they worked with my narrow heel because the Salomon shoes are extremely good quality and I have friends who live by them, so if you don't have a narrow heel to worry about, give this shoe a try!!

Billed as a trail runner, the XA Pro 3D V8 is more a lightweight hiking shoe. Built like a tank.

I am not sure if I have this exact version. The invoice says "XA Pro 3D CSWP", and I received them for Christmas 2019. I have janky feet, and must use custom orthotics. With the orthotics, these are some of the most comfortable and supportive shoes I have owned. Minus one-half star because they squeak...noticeably. And, no, it is not my orthotics that make them squeak. Not "sneakers", for sure. Minus one-half star because the quick lace system does not stay tight. I have to stop and tighten them at least once per mile. Overall quite happy. One question: what kind of waterproofing should I use if I need it?

Finally a shoe that fits. Great traction and comfort. It's a sturdy, solid shoe but compromised with less cushion. Thank you.

I bought these shoes a couple months ago and have been happy with them. I really like the stability and grip they have on the trails I run or hike. The no-tie laces are really nice and it is a good looking shoe. I have an older GTX model that is waterproof that I prefer in the rain or wetter conditions. The padding in these shoes is reasonable although that may be the one area where I would prefer to see some improvement. When I run in these shoes the sole tends to slide forward leaving nothing under my heal and a little less room near the toes. It is easy to move the sole back into place and it doesn't seem to move much when I just walk but I would like to see it slip less when I run.

Very pleased with all components, but the heel is the one weakness of most shoes I have found. Even with loosening before putting on I can see that the heel will become problematic within a few months. Regardless of the heel, this shoes is awesome. The tread is durable, easy to loosen and tighten, looks sharp, breathes well, light weight and love the loops on back to attach to a bag or just carry.

I'm on my third pair of these and really my chief complaint is that the soles can be SUPER slick when on certain wet hard surfaces, like certain tile. My running shoes weren't nearly as slippery on the same surface. The soles also seem to wear out faster than other shoes I've had, but that may just be the tradeoff to trail running soles. Other than that, I really love them.
