I couldn't believe how narrow and small the shoe was. I looked back at other reviews and I seem to be a minority in thinking that, but it made me wonder if they shoes were mismarked.

I love the fit. UNFORTUNATELY, the front top collapsing. I've been buying these shoes for years and this is new for Merrell - possibly quality of materials by the manufacturer. The previous black pair collapsed and this replacement pair is collapsing. The white pair I bought last year for spring/summer wear are ALSO collapsing. This never happened before this year.

I saw the reviews that said this shoe is not like the old version, and they're right - but I was optimistic! Ah well, the search for a slip on shoe with a nice arch to wear at home on hard surfaces will continue.

I was initially happy when trying these on, thinking they are close to the originals that models 2 and 3 really ruined. These 4s are not as close to the originals as I thought. They are narrower in the toes and wider in the heels. They are like wearing flip flops - the front is snug and the heel flips up and down, and is very wide. They seem just a bit less sturdy with a thinner sole, so that if you need more cushioning in the ball of the foot, it seems to be just a bit less than the originals. They do smell a lot! I left them out for about a week and the smell dissipated for the most part. I'll have to keep them because all my old ones are now beyond glueing together. Hoping they'll stretch in the toes and stop flipping in the heels. I do think they are an improvement over the 3s.

I have worn a 7.5B all of my life but I am returning this pair because they are too large. After a very long, frustrating process of searching for, ordering and returning several pair of 7.5B clogs (some not Merrells) because they were either uncomfortable, too large or mismatched, at last I ordered a 7B Merrell Encore Breeze pair and Voila! they fit perfectly and I'm keeping them -- for now. Unfortunately, I am not happy with the awful (synthetic?) rubbery smell from these shoes, which gets worse as my feet warm up during the day, follows me wherever I go and permeates my closet overnight! Additionally, while the overall construction LOOKS the same, the knit uppers, soles and overall construction aren't as sturdy as my previous Merrell Encore Breezes (in two different colors) which kept my feet happy for 15+ years on city streets and mountain trails before giving up. It's so disappointing to have found an "old shoe" with the right fit and now have to contend with the bad smel! I'm going to try wearing them for a few more days and see if it goes away. If not, I'll probably have to return them and keep looking for another clog.

I really liked these Merrill’s but they were different than the other pair I have. If they don’t say air cushion on the bottom the rubber is too stiff for me.

For my feet the fit was just ok. I have such tender and sensitive feet that the only shoe I have found that actually does work for me is the Hoka one... These shoes were stiff and very hard inside even with my orthotics...I need lots of cushioning and this Merrill shoe did not have any! Thank goodness Zappos is so understanding ..I have a hard time finding the right shoe and it Seems Hoka One has changed this years shoe???

I bought this shoe to replace a similar Merrill shoe that had worn out over 10 years. I noticed that the heel back is low, much more like a slip on. Might have been ok but I felt like I was walking out of them. I reordered the MOC style that appears to have the tall heel back that I had before and hope the fit is better. Also the Olive color is a lot darker than expected - more like a black then a lighter olive green.

My old Merrell Encore is a ladies 10. I ordered these in a 10 and they were to big. I wore them to work which is why I got another pair and my feet were killing me by the end of the day. I work for a veterinarian in surgery so I have to be my best. I was disappointed. They run much bigger.

I was disappointed in this purchase and plan to return them. I thought I was duplicating a very similar pair of Merrells, but these are slightly different. They have plenty of toe room, but they are tight over the instep so that I could not wear a sock under them. I normally wear a narrow shoe. I also feel they slip at the heel more than my previous ones. The color is nice and multi-seasonal. The fabric weave is finer than my previous shoe. The clinker is that I found an extremely similar model on the Merrell web site quite a bit cheaper, on sale.

Size and potentially comfort is great. I don’t actually have much experience with the comfort of the shoes. They have an overwhelming chemical odor. I tried to sit them out for a few days, no luck. Back they go

Felt cheap compared to other Merrells I've had in the past. Materials were rough and I anticipate blisters because I wanted to wear these without socks.

I like the fit that matched a prior pair. However I'm so mixed about returning them as they "stink" to high heaven of synthetic odor and I can't even wear them inside or keep them in my closet without everything else being affected.

I have been wearing Merrells for years. These new encore are at least a half inch shorter in the back at the heel. They do not fit securely on my heels as my previous shoes in an earlier version. Technically they fit, but when I walk, the shorter back rubs up and down on my heel. These will never work for walking any distance. Very disappointed!

I returned my Encore Breeze shoes. I purchased my regular size, and they were at least a half size too long, though the width seemed true to my regular width. The color shown as taupe to canvas on screen, though it is actually taupe to silver. The shoes curled up and puckered at the toes.

I wanted a stretch fabric clog because leather ones are causing calluses. These still rub a bit. My reason for only 2 stars is they are too wide. Why can't Merrell (my favorite brand) make a narrow? This is like making a bra that comes in only one cup size no matter what your circumference. Also, this color was a mistake.

Sadly, the quality of Women's Merrill slip-on Encore shoe has changed over the years. I have purchase I think the very first pair I purchased was in Lancaster, PA, and it had a fury lined interior with a nice soft (comfortable) leather exterior with thick rubber sole. I may have been called "the slide." I loved it! Then, I purchased a very supportive shoe to wear in my house (up and down the steps). I have several iterations of Merrill's slip on design. It was so comfortable and nothing hurt. They were heavenly. Then, I purchased for an indoor / slipper like slide-in shoe, with mess uppers, trimmed with leather and thick rubber soles. It was the early version of the slide/Encore. They were very comfortable and has the mesh uppers with some leather trim/support. The early version of that show was fine. Then, the design kept changing...and not for the better. The latest iteration is so cheaply made that it does not fit to the form of my upper foot. That never happened before with a Merrill Encore Breeze. This one is the Encore Breeze 4 - J004218, color IRIS, Size 8.5. The mesh is very loose with very little shape. The shoe does not feel secure or conform to the upper part of my foot. I have not worn it, since I purchased it on Amazon, last summer. Now, I have J598436, which has a firm trim along the outer and inner opening of the shoe, into the part where you slip your feet. At the very back part (center) of that trim, the leather (or vinyl ?) trim has rippled or puckered along the inner trim, so it rubs against my Achilles tendon (on the back of my foot). I always wear moderately thick socks with my Merrill's slip-on shoes, so I should not feel that, but I do. I can't wear this pair of Merrill's because I will get a blister - if I continue to wear them. Why does Merrill keep changing the design and quality of material of your shoes slip-on shoes from a a popular style one that is poorly redesigned with cheaper synthetic materials - which fail? If you listen to your customers, you will see that they did not like the changes (as I have been reading their comments. It's not only me that notices your subtle changes that turn out to be more pronounced when you wear the shoe. Plus, I do not believe that when Merrill sends their products overseas to save money with cheaper labor, the end result will be good for customer. You may save money, but you ruin your reputation. Once lost, it is difficult to get your reputation back. The move in manufacturing is to make it in America. I'd rather pay more for a well designed, comfortable shoe than suffer in a slightly less expensive design. I feel that Merrill is ruining their good name "to save a dollar." When you have a comfortable, well designed shoe - why change it to make it worse? I have purchased many of Merrill slip on shoe shoes - in case you were going to discontinue my favorite show. Little did I realized that each iteration had changed and not for the better. I really miss the original Encore Slides (I think that was the name.) You should take to heart the feedback of your customers. I just can not spend my money on Merrill and keep getting disappointed. I'm ready to move on other more reputable brands of comfortable, supportive shoes that I can wear and do not hurt! Patricia Mattone

They fit fine but the stinky odors that they were filled with was unbearable. I opened the box at the post office in my car after I picked them up at my po box. I ended up having to have the window open all the way home as they smelled so strong of chemicals. At home I aired them out on my covered deck overnight and was surprised to find they smelled just as strong in the morning. There is no way I want these in my home or on my feet. I will be returning. I had Merrell shoes many years ago and they NEVER smelled.

The Encore has been my go-to shoe for all occasions for years. The last couple of pairs have been of greatly reduced quality, particularly the trim around the opening. The heel end frayed soon after receiving the shoe. Just as frustrating is trying to deliver this feedback to improve the Encore back to its previous high quality. Coincidentally, a recently purchased Merrell hiking boot arrived in poor shape - creased in the wrong places as if packed wrong during overseas shipment. Sadly, I will be looking for a new go-to shoe company.

Having worn this and other Merrils like this, I am very disappointed to learn they company has removed the QFORM2 from the heel of the shoe. That was the exact thing that made this shoe fit perfect for me and my orthotic arch. I "chatted" with a person online, and was not pleased but understood why the change made the shoe not "feel good" at all.

I’ve always loved this shoe, but Merrell has changed them and they are very uncomfortable. The material is awful and they are not the quality they used to be. This shoe used to be $55.00 and I know over the years prices go up. I wouldn’t mind that if the quality was the same as it used to be. They also have a terrible odor. Merrell, please bring the old shoe back!

The shoe is totally different from the previous one. They removed the heel support. It's like a flip flop, not a sneaker for walking.

So disappointed. Have bought a new pair every summer and winter (the lined ones). Looked forward to the new birch color. Merrell has cheapened the insole, making it thiner and making the top on the insole out of a stiff scratchy material. Were they not making enough money with the higher quality comfy insole?
