This is my go to all-purpose shoes now. I love the arch lacing system. I have always loved the concept and benefits of Altra shoes, but I have a narrow foot and some styles feel a little floppy on me. The new lacing system makes this shoes feel just right for me. I love it, and I hope they make a trail runner with this technology!

I love the colors, the upper and the rubberized outsole makes me think I'll get a lot of miles from this shoe! Also, the support is great, not obtrusive and in the insole of the shoe is ribbed inside which makes it feel like a sock. The lacing system is attached to the arch of the shoe which gives you gentle support when you pronate. Toe box is nice and wide! This shoe feels like a more supportive Escalante and I am IN LOVE!

Shoe fits & feels true to size. Only complaint is that the tongue is not attached inside shoe & has no place to run laces through on top so it moves a lot even during a short run.

These shoes are very comfortable, once I got used to them. I had to order a half size larger than I used to because my feet are spreading out as I age. I do have one gripe - the pattern on the sole is such that it picks up little bits of gravel when I walk up and down our gravel driveway. Other than that, they are great, rather pretty actually with the pink sole edges and black top. I had to learn to pull up the tongue strongly and I always use a shoe horn to make sure the heel lining doesn't fold under. Also, I took out the insole and put in a different one with more arch support. I only walk, my running days are far behind me.

As someone who has no experience with Altra before the 4s, I love them. Currently on 3rd pair. Switched when another brand updated their shoe and toe box became too small. Personally, they are not too narrow for me, but if you are used to something wider, I can understand why they may seem small. Only issue is fabric doesn't hold up well. Have noticed myself needing new ones sooner because fabric on either side of shoe has ripped up.

Fit, style and size were great! Unfortunately, as others have mentioned, there is a design flaw. The strap designed to hold the tongue in place is sewn to the inside of the shoe in such a way that the strap digs and rubs uncomfortably. They had to be returned.

It seems that with Altra the lower the sole the narrower the shoe. The toe shaped tow box that is their trademark is not consistent. It is tow shaped if you look at the bottom, but overall the show is made narrower so you definitely feel the difference. Still roomier than mainstream brands, but I was surprised bu the difference. Otherwise, this show does have good stability and support, but heel slippage happens often.

I ordered these in hope they would fit just like the Torin 4.5 plush, but with the larger padded tongue. They are slightly narrower in the toe box and shorter. I’m going to try a half size up.

I would buy the Provision again but I liked the older models better. In the newest version tongue wants to disappear into the shoe and the support seems less supportive.

I've had these for 2 weeks and "run" 3-4 times a week at 2-4 miles/run (avg pace 11:30-13:30). In the past, to help with shin splints, I've worn Bauerfeind ankle braces but these tend to stretch/warp shoes. The Provision 4 not only looks great but provides the stability I need to prevent shin splints on its own. In other Altra models, I've complained about the clown shoe-looking toe box but the Provision 4 is a little narrow and hurts my pinky toe on longer runs. Other than that, it's currently my favorite pair of road shoes and I will probably buy another pair. For reference, I do trail runs in Lone Peaks and use Escalantes for walking/casual wear.

I must start with the fact that I've been needing to replace my multiple pair for f original Escalantes for quite a while. I've got several other styles of Altra (it's all I wear), and nothing has workeduntil these. I'm still holding out that they will go back to the feel of my old Escalantes, but while I do, these will work. Even better is that I started needing some support and these did the trick. No more over pronation. I like the new part inside that supports the arch. It's just a gentle and comfortable support for me. No rubbing there. I haven't gone longer than an hour in these yet, just several 3-4 mile runs.

I've been a devoted Altra Superior fan for years, decided to try a style with a little more cushioning. The provision 14 certainly are but there's a couple of design/cosmetic issues. The eyelets on one shoe are almost completely hidden and the fabric bows out and is very stiff compared to the opposite foot. The heel has some beefy padding on the insides which gave me blisters on my first 5 mile run, possibly after they compress a little they might be better. The superiors have always been great out of the box. Unfortunately I don't have the box for these otherwise I'd exchange them.

At first comfy, especially the wide toe box. The lacing system is different from other shoes and not comfortable at all. Tried them around the house first and glad I did. Tried other styles but heel kept slipping regardless of size.

I should have ordered 1/2 size smaller. However, the plastic shoelace tabs are uncomfortable, and I will order a different style.

Appearance and style were spot on, but sizing didn’t seem consistent with the brand. I have 2 other styles of Altra foot wear and they all have an organically wide foot bed....however, these did not. These were narrow, even compared to other non-zero drop styles. Bummed, but I’m still loyal to the brand and will buy a different style.

I’ve worn Altras for a few years now. The previous pair (my third Altra), I noticed they were narrower both in shoe width and toe box but still worked. The Provision 4 is even more narrow all around. That’s totally defeating the purpose of what Altra was originally making as that wide toe box was a huge feature for me. Not only that, but this shoe fit really weird. I ordered both 8 and 8.5. I could have settled on either size, maybe 8.5 a bit better, but both sizes pulled to the inside on the top. I mean, the fabric on the top of the shoe visibly pulled to the inside with each step, and that made my feet feel and look pigeon-toed. My foot sat weirdly because my toes sat toward the outside edge leaving a completely empty space toward the inside edge where my toes should have been able to spread out. Strangest fitting shoe I’ve ever tried on. Had to return both pair.

This shoe fits well. Issue is that with a normal walking routine only holds up about 90 days. Sole and upper mesh deteriorated by 60 day mark. Expect more for this price.

I like these shoes alright but they're not my favorite. They feel about a half size smaller than my Escalantes. The main problem is the panels on the arch (the ones that you lace through). The first one isn't covered by the tongue or any kind of fabric panel, so they caused horrible blisters on runs longer than 45 minutes or so. I was able to fix it by covering them with duct tape on the inside, but I feel like that's something you really shouldn't need to do.

I liked the concept of the InnovoArch technology and it looked like it could give me support I was looking for. Additionally, I have a narrow foot and was drawn to give the Provision a try because of the number of review comments about it being narrow. The shoe fit fine for me but I found the lacing with the InnovArch to be more fuss than I am willing to deal with. I also didn't like the gap that it created from the 'fingers' of the InnovArch to the side of the shoe. I chose to return the Provisions and keep the Viho that I'd ordered. I'll watch to see how Altra takes all the comments they're receiving into consideration and remodeling the shoe. Potentially I'll give it a try in the future if it looks like any redesign has moved it toward the characteristics desire. This shoe is not so horrible that I wouldn't recommend it to a friend. I would just tell them; 'eyes wide open' - here's why it didn't work for me, but there's a free return policy which I utilized and so can you.

This was my first pair of Altras and I bought this pair and some Escalantes for walking. The provision has to go back because the inside sits up so high that it slips off my foot.. So my advice is to try it on to see if it works for you.

I did 8 miles in these in an hour and three minutes. I loved them the only down fall is the blistering of the inside of my heel. I have had this before in other shoes. I am returning them while I still can because in my experience the blistering doesn't stop.

I have issues with my feet; provisions worked well for me. But not the 4's. I was sorely disappointed with them. Laces are difficult to adjust. There is nothing to secure the tongue so it constantly slides. My heels are always slipping out of the shoe. After only a short time, holes are developing from my toes. I wanted to like them but I will not be purchasing this model again, not unless they bring back what was tried and true.

These are my first Altas and I have mixed feelings about this model. The good: the cushioning is very comfortable and the arch support is great when I go out for my one-mile run. No shin splints! The bad: the toe box is a little narrow and is bothering one of my toes. The quirky lacing system is hard to get used to - I find myself pulling on the wrong lace to tighten them. The worst: the soles keep catching on rugs while I'm standing around. Now I realize that the "catching" was actually the coral part of the sole coming loose on the outside. Is there a glue I can use to reattach the pieces before they completely detach? Otherwise the soles are in great condition, hardly worn at all after wearing them mostly indoors over the winter. My friend raves about her Altra trail shoes, but I wouldn't recommend this model.
