Sole is super slick. Pull tab in back tore. Top lace lashes are a pain to use.

I had the chance to test a Tor Ultra high 2, Kaha, and this Stinson Mid My feet: Consistently training in minimal heel drop shoes for years with additional barefoot work. I have used the original Stinson tarmac in the past. The ask: I was in search of a winter boot with a wide toe box, good grip, minimal heel drop (around 5mm) that I could stand and hike for hours in. The Tor Ultra High 2 was flawed in my test with too much lateral heel posting causing your ankles to go into a valgus with trickle up effects into the knees. Difficulty squatting fully. Returned Immediately. The Kaha had too much lateral mid foot and forefoot posting causing the 5th metatarsal to have too much pressure on it, causing foot discomfort within the hour. The heel cup also caused discomfort at the seam in the rear. I'm a size 11 and the shoe had slightly too much space and the 10.5 was too small in the toe box. Difficulty squatting fully. Returned after 4 times of testing. The Last two shoes had an amazing vibram sole. The Stinson Mid was an amazing fit with a great fit, wide toe box. The only downside is that the grip is like an all season average traction 5/10 versus a vibram grip of 10/10. A little sketchy when wet or icy. It seems like the compound of the grip of the Stinson Mid makes it cushioned and comfortable for daily use (which I appreciate) with quicker wear than the more rigid vibram grip. It's a Double-edged sword. I'm enjoying the Stinson Mid and will use it as my boot for now. Hoka - Beta test the platform of the Stinson Mid with a soft compound vibram/or more grippy sole for wet/snowy traction. Thank you!

The first impression was that these boots are very soft and comfortable. After a week of wearing I realized that it's possible for shoes to be too soft. It's almost like walking in sand. Soft, yes but it slows your stride, if that makes sence. Definitely could use a little more support under all the cushion like they do with the other running shoes. Very disappointing considering they are not cheap and they just sit on the shelf now. Probably good for wearing outside your house like yard work but not for hiking. To me these are like reinforced slippers. Probably better for just standing all day with minimal walking however without support your back may suffer.

I put some insoles the shoes the first day. I have used this style insole for years and never had an issue. Now I am getting severe rubbing on my arch.

These boots were my next option after Hoka discontinued their amazing Tor Ultra boots! I went through 3 pairs of Tor Ultras over 6 years. I beat those boots into the ground and they came back for more. In regards to these boots theVibram sole pieces are not heat bonded. They seem to be only glued on. The boot itself is great. The Vibram portion started peeling after about 6 months of use . Unfortunately I had the boots about 6 months before I started wearing them. Hoka would not honor the return. And to top that off I had bought a second pair just in case they discontinued this model. Luckily they took that pair back. Because the upper and main dole are holding up, Gorilla glue has been my friend.

I wear these for work for ankle support because I broke my Tibia last year. I bartend and I'm on my feet for a good 10-12 hours. They are comfortable for the first 6-7 hours then the top of the tongue starts to irritate my ankle bone. Putting the on and off is pretty aggravating as well because the hooks for the laces are designed poorly so that it's difficult to hook the laces in and when I take them off the laces don't come out easily also.

How can you make such a comfortable boot and design such a horrible lace system. Did you do this to torture us . If you have 10 minutes and the patience of a Saint to get them on .ok . But most of us don't. My goodness just but put a simple hook loop on the top 3 lace loops.

Hoka is notorious for catering to the little guy. I really wanted these shoes to work. After having to send back at least 2 other pairs for being too small I was hopeful seeing a wide option for these. I'm a 10 and a half in most shoes. They were tight immediately, I figured there was a breaking in corner to turn. Nope. After trying my hardest to break them in I had to return them. I could have tried a size 11 I guess. But I had already tried 2 or 3 other Hoka shoes amd all were small in a 10 and a half. Go big I guess if you are a bigger guy.

I love Hoka boots, usually, finding them better in the toe box (I need wide), comfortable, and good-looking. But the design of the lace hooks on this model is just awful. Nearly impossible to get the lace inside the hook, due to the hook design (which was done to keep them from coming loose, I presume). This makes them completely useless, to me.

The shoes is very comfortable and the color is great. I hike 4 days in Yosemite using it. I notice the glued rubber overlapping thenleather on the front started to peel off. I wish you guy sewn it because the glue cannot hold really good. I will return it (not 30 days yet) and look for other design that will be better.

The fit is amazing and I really like the style with shorts, jeans and in any situation. They are very comfortable for 12 hour work days and I will say the goretex waterproofing is great. Let's get into why I will never buy a Hoka product again despite enjoying them for the 4 months I was able to. The bottom soles are individual pieces and rip off one by one. They are not made for hiking and after each hike a new piece would start to tear off or break apart. They also seem to not far well to elements and after the recent snow season in NY I think the salt deteriorated away at the bottom even more ripping off several more panels to the point where these now are going in the trash. That soft plush material comes at a cost and that cost is being not durable and for the price that is charged for these things you would think they would last more than a few hikes and a month of winter weather. If you plan to just use these as a fashion statement, in the gym or somewhere they won't be used much maybe but they are not high end outdoor shoes and the only shoe I have owned in my whole life where the bottom came apart in 4 months with limited use. I personally would avoid at all costs.

Took me a very long time to get shoes on and laced. I will never understand the reason for " quick laceing system " these are worse than normal quick system as the laces are very difficult get into the non quick. What is wrong with anon speed lacing system.

These shoes are very comfortable but they lack traction on slippery or muddy surfaces. The trails I hike are often wet and muddy and I bought these specifically for long hikes. I opted to get the Kaha it has a Vibram sole and should give me more traction. Also if you hike on lots of gravel or rock the soles will start to wear rather quickly.

Fit and comfort are as I would except. As long as I am on dry trails the traction is good. However, if I am on a wet hard surface the traction is awful. I live in Pennsylvania and trails here are known for rocks and roots. So that is why I would not purchase this model again. I will opt for the models that have Vibram souls.

These are well made boots BUT, not for me. I found them to be NOT well suited for trail hiking at all. With the extremely thick built-up sole they offered no stability on the trail. My foot was rolling in all directions and the arch was too high. So I returned them. I suppose if you worked on concrete floors or in a warehouse setting they my be ok.

Very comfortable, of course. Hoka's almost always are. The issue I have is that the soles seem to provide no traction at all on a wet surface. These are Gore-Tex line hiking boots after all! I have a pair of Speed Goat mids that I was going to replace with the Stinsons until I stepped on a few wet spots on my deck. The Stinsons just slide right out, while the Speed Goats work very well in the same spot. I tried this in various wet spots around my house, and the results were the same. The Stinsons don't even feel safe on a wet surface.

This high end shoe - $190- has a design defect - the tongue is too short so when laced up the tongue does not cushion the ankle & starts to rub directly on it -- very disappointed. First issue I've had with the many pairs of Hokas I own. Seems fair to ask that they be replaced with an improved model if their is such a thing

I'm disappointed with the quality of Hoka hikers. This was my 2nd pair, I returned the first after one multi-day hike, and this model didn't last either. Meanwhile, the Asolo's I bought 7 years ago are still going strong... The heel pull tab tired off one, the sole is pealing off in places and shredding everywhere else and the toe cap is coming unglued. Many of these issues were also observed on my first pair b

The Good: Light and fairly comfortable The Bad: Pull tab on heel broke within 2 weeks. Shoes lace hook system is frustrating and broke. They feel really cheap. Best way to describe it is a very light tennis shoe that just has uppers for boots. Soles are very slippery and seem to get "gummy" or warm asphalt on normal summer day. Customer Service sucks. Flat out! Its the only pair of shoes that I own and they wanted me to send them back before they sent a replacement (I can understand their concern) but I don't have weeks to wait around without shoes. They have my credit card information that they could have charged if I didn't return the defective pair in a reasonable time
