Redesigning a shoe is great and all, but this updated model feels more like another Cascadia variant. Pros: improved toe guard and better stability. Cons: the outsole. One of the things that made the Caldera 3 great was the higher surface area outsole that allowed the shoe to comfortably be used as a hybrid trail/road runner. The shoe could handle our local roads that lead to the gnarly mountain trails without sacrificing performance on either surface. The new outsoles are comparable to Salomon S/Labs in the sense that they're a little too aggressive and are showing signs of significant wear after just a few runs. Understandably, stickier soles wear faster on pavement and this is not a dedicated road runner. That being said the shoe should be able to handle a couple miles of paved approach without the sole starting to shread. Please bring back a higher surface area. less aggressive outsole; you've already got a more aggressive trail-dedicated shoe with GTX options (Cascadia). The Caldera 3 was the quiver killer of your line-up and should stay that way. Also, the color schemes. Maybe increase the color combos to three or four choices? The Cascadia has seven (7) different appearance options including the GTX model, but not including all the special editions that companies like REI will release. It wouldn't hurt the Caldera to add another shoe or two to its lineup.

Brooks shoes have been a favorite of mine for years. Since I ordered a size 14 you may describe me as a large man. I weigh 190. I don't have a particularly wide foot. However the shoe was too narrow for me. it pinched my foot. Also, there was insufficient padding under the ball of the feet. My feet hurt when I used the shoe. For a size 14 you should provide a wider shoe with more padding in the insole.

Too much cushion makes them unstable. They hurt my feet. Tried them with orthotics but still hurt my feet.

I've always loved Brooks connect line of shoes(trail and road). Since Brooks is discontinuing all connect versions I thought I'd try these. Unfortunately the 8mm drop was too much and now my only option seems too go to another brand.

I wear these specifically for running, mostly trails and I would say that the 3’s were a lot better. These are made of what feel like far cheaper materials. The 3’s did at first feel unstable laterally, but once they were broken in the were so awesome. These force you to pronate your foot, overly so I’d say, so if you tend to step on the outside of your foot, I would highly discourage getting this pair. Probably the worst Brooks shoes I’ve ever owned, which is unfortunate because they are so expensive. I actually got a blister on my heel today, after about 4-5 runs, because they changed the back of the shoe and removed some of the padding. I would not recommend these at all.

This is my 5th pair of Brooks. I Previously 2 of the original Calderas and 2 Cascade 14s. I always wear the same size. These Caldera 4s are way smaller than the other ones. I have just worn the Caldera 4s for 3 outings for a total of 10 miles. I ended up with a huge blister and bleeding through a band aid and sock on the ankle. These shoes run at least 1/2 size smaller than normal. I'm returning these. The width is good though as well as the cushioning. You may want to consider trying them on at a store first or else buying a 1/2 size up.

had to return this model.. the toe box for me was too wide and too high. this shoe is not for someone with a medium width foot or someone whose foot is not thick . you just wade around in it. the ghost is my shoe again.

Totally different shoe. Maybe should have renamed it? Shoe Is much more clumsy in technical terrain than previous models. I would say this model is now for buffed out tails and fire roads. Also the rubber is peeling off the tip of the toe after 20 miles or so. Very unfortunate. I'd return these for a pair of caldera 3 if I could
