As other reviewers have noted, this is not the same shoe as previous iterations. Different materials, slightly different styling, different fit. Still ordering and returning in an effort to try and get the right fit.

A bit shorter than previous Brooks so returning for a half size larger.

I have ordered countless pairs of Brooks Ariel running shoes. They always fit well, and are comfortable right out of the box. No need to break them in. Plenty of room for my orthotics. My one complaint is that the soles wear out rather quickly. Wish they were more durable.

Color is nice. For a shoe which is specifically designed for pronation, the arch isn’t great but with purchased arch supports is fine (I like Powersteps). Would buy half size larger. The problem is the posterior opening of shoe (the collar that goes around the ankle). The top part of it collapses like wet cardboard when I go to put it on, so I have to fully open the shoe first. Material seems fragile.

I love the shoe, the arch is a bit high but still comfortable. Should have bought two pair.

After reading many reviews, I purchased the Ariel due to the cushioning . While the shoe is cushioned it could use a bit more in the forefront of the shoe. It is a good shoe and made well, but I will still look for a well cushioned shoe.

Very comfortable shoe but wish it had a bit more cushion to it. The short shoe laces are a joke for those of us with wide feet.

Don't get me wrong, I love these shoes but why only 2 colors? I bought both colors but I'd really love something other that black or white. To make matters worse, I need a wide shoe which really limits the colors available in any other shoe. Please make more color choices for those of us who need a wide, supportive shoe.

Looking for a running/walking shoe for my over pronating feet. I have Brooks Adrenaline 20 and they are really comfortable with an added insole for more arch support. I still get pronation so I am searching for something with more support. I tried the Ariel since they are Brooks max support. the Ariel run at least a half size smaller than the Adrenaline. They also seem to have less roomy toe box. They don’t seem that much different with the pronation help and I can feel the pressure on the inner side of my heel. I tried the Hoka Gaviota 3 and with those I could really feel the push back on the inside of the heel area; I could tell that would get really uncomfortable. Back to the search…

I loved these shoes and have worn them out. With arch support they were fine. My only issues were not having any arch support and the fact that they looked like old people shoes. I bought them in white, which is all they had and definitely contributed to that look.

I tried this shoe on for only a few moments, but it felt incredible. Excellent support and cradling, which is exactly what I was looking for. The 12mm drop was a deal breaker for me. 10mm is my max. If Brooks made the Ariel with a 10mm or 8mm drop, I would be a fan for life.
I'd also recommend:
Salomon, (except for the too-narrow toe box)

I have been wearing and buying the Brooks Ariel shoes for several years. Though they feel great the first couple months, with extensive use the arch support does not hold up for as long as one would like for a $160 shoe. When I’m going on a trip and expect to do a lot of walking, I make sure that these shoes are pretty new.

Good shoe. Not a runner, but do lots of walking around. Only down side is having to buy a shoe horn because the back of the shoe caves in and is hard to get back in place after my foot is in. Not sure if it supposed to be that way or not. Comfy and doesn't really feel like wearing any shoes at all.

The fit is awesome and I feel super supported. Unfortunately, the interior tip end of my right shoe has some sort of material that has either come off the lining or was loose to begin with. I don't notice it on walks but on longer runs it does start to rub up against my toe and is uncomfortable. Not sure if this is just a faulty item or that the shoes generally experience wear and tear as quickly as mine.

I love these shoes due to my probation, but they do run small. I just order a larger size. My heal stays steady in the shoes, preventing any roll to the side. This is my second pair, so hoping the 1/2 size larger will be a tad roomier in the toe box.

Not sure what's happened with the Ariel '20. I've worn this shoe for years and loved it! I got the Ariel '20 and my toes were crunched up at the front of the shoe. Never happened before. Customer service is great and I'm returning my size 6 and I'm ordering the 6.5 and hoping that it's a better fit. Seems strange that they would change a shoe that's been a mainstay for so long.

Great for a wide toe area. A little too roomy at the heal area. Wish there was more cushioning.

I am a regular wearer of the Ariel. It is wonderful sturdy and dependable shoe. This season I bought the Ariel as well as the Glycerin in my usual size of 8.5. The Glycerin fit perfectly. The Ariel was snug and difficult to get the foot passed the raised ankle support. Foolishly I didn't send them back, thinking they would stretch out, but they didn't. They simply are not the same 8.5 as a last year's model. I really can't wear them. Despite that the Ariel is a high performance shoe that I would choose again getting size right.
