This is my 3rd purchase of this style (after the Tetra and Captiva models pictured in my photo), and I was thrilled Merrell brought this style back since I've worn my old ones through in the sole and had to replace the zipper twice due to wearing them so much. There are some differences this time, though - first, this one is slightly wider in the leg, most noticeably for me in the ankle. They look less svelte and slightly more like galoshes now. I also miss the dual ankle straps, this version only has a single wrap. Secondly, it's a matte nubuck instead of leather like my old ones. Thirdly, they are about 1" taller in the shaft than previous models. None of these are a dealbreaker for me, since they are still waterproof, quite comfortable, and amply wide in the footbed. I've been waiting for a few years for these to come back, and while they're not quite as great as my old favorites, they're still keepers for me since I haven't found anything else that comes as close these in form and function.

Feel true to size and I'll be able to wear good thick socks with them (along with skinny jeans). I wanted them to have a long shaft height, because I'm 5'11" and these don't come to my knees (another reviewer said they were too high, so it's all about your height). I have more muscular (but not "wide") calves and I think these have a 17" circumference and I have a 16" circumference at the thickest part of my calf and there's still plenty of room with pants and socks on, so that's something to consider -- if you have skinny calves, these might not be right for you, but if you have bigger calves, they might be perfect.

These boots are awesome!!! They’re sooo comfortable right out of the box! They’re made exceptionally well and the leather is gorgeous! I’m in love with them! They’re true to size. The color is a dark brown, almost black and just beautiful. I usually have problems with the toe box being too small, not these! Plenty of room in the toe box and my heals don’t slip.

I have had good luck with Merrell boots, and have been buying the same pair for years. The style I like is no longer available, so I tried these. While the fit around the foot is comfortable and what I hoped for, the fit around the top is way too wide. Even with thick socks, they would be too wide. Bummer to have to send these back.

These are cute, functional boots. The leather looks and feels nice, the sole of the shoe would work very well in snowy and icy weather. They are comfortable, true to size, nice wide toe box, and high quality. They looked good with leggings and jeans. I am 5'8" 210lbs and the boots zipped up with a bit of a tug at the top, but perfectly comfortable once zipped. The boots stay perfectly snug on my leg and don't slouch at all. I think they are worth the price tag, and I really wanted to keep those. However, I wanted a light brown boot and was hoping this one might be magically lighter than the picture. It's not - it's a very dark brown boot. Beautiful, but not what I wanted. Also, I wanted a boot I could dress up a bit more. This boot looked good enough with more casual and fun skirts, but just not as dress-up-able as I wanted them to be.

Size: I’m a true 7.5 - I ordered 7.5 and they fit perfect - for tights or mid weight sock. If you are between 7.5 to a 8 with wider feet or heavy weight sock I’d recommend ordering a 8. These are comfortably snug. I’m 5/6 and they come just below my knee. They are well made - sturdy leather, grippy sole. I’d recommend them. Ordered brown and it’s a deep dark brown - highly satisfied with color.

I bought a similar pair of these Merrell boots a few years ago in brown, and they are the most comfortable boots I own. I have several issues with my feet, so when I needed a new pair of black boots, I was excited to find these. They fit well, but the leather is stiff and after a few hours of wear, they start rubbing the tops of my toes. I'm hoping after a few more wears, they will break in and be as comfortable as my old pair. I also removed the insole and replaced them with my orthotics. Overall, a good boot for me and I know they will last a long time.

I have been waiting for Merrell to make these boots again. I had a pair for years that finally completely wore out. These boots wear like running shoes. Comfortable for miles and miles and miles. (I walked 8 city miles one day in my old pair.) The fact that they are warm and waterproof is key for life here in Chicago. The calf fit is wider on the new ones and is a little baggy on my legs, but that is the only thing I'd change. I'm so happy these are back!

These are nice but weren’t what I was looking for. Very casual and comfortable and well-made and fit nicely over my 16” calves.

They're true-to-size for me and I'll be able to wear good socks with them. I have only walked around the house in them so far, but found them comfortable already. I will say (because another reviewer commented on them being too tall) that I LOVE the height! I was pleased to find them with such a substantial shaft height. I'm 5'11", so they don't come up to my knee at all -- a few inches below that on my long legs. I bought them for a trip to Ireland and London in September, so hoping the waterproof feature doesn't let me down!!! Also, I *hate* elastic inserts on leather boots and there's a small insert of it on the outside (visible in profile view), but I don't mind this one as it's not super noticeable. My calf circumference at the thickest part is around 16" (not very large, but not super thin either -- I never buy wide calf boots, but sometimes boots are tight on my calves) and there's still plenty of room in there even with socks and skinny jeans. This might be great for women who often need to shop for the wide calf boots, but it also might be bad news for women with thinner calves.

Love the styling and comfort of this boot. Sadly, calf was too narrow. Drat. I have a 15" calf and could not even get these zipped up. Really wish they had a wide calf version!

Very happy with this boot, I usually wear Teva but I noticed that with the Teva's that the front of the boot gets worn quickly so I decided to try this boot. If you have wide calfs this is not the boot for you. The only complaint I have is that I'm 5ft and the boot is just a little too high for me, it hits me in the kneepit. I didn't realize this until I had already worn them outside, however after wearing them several times they stretched out and it no longer bothers me.

Excellent quality leather and construction, these will tolerate snow well! The circumference is just short of 17” though. I have 16 7/8” calves -measurements made multiple times before and after purchase- and I could barely zip these over my bare legs. I think (hope) they will stretch a little bit but for now they’re just going over thin leggings/tights. The quality is worth the hope. I’ve worn them a full day in extreme comfort but I won’t go walking in them for a bit (until they stretch out) because, due to the tightness in the calves, there’s some scrunching at the ankle that might give me some blisters on my heels until they break in. Again though, these are quality boots!!

I ordered these in brown. The primary reason I'm keeping them is because they fit my 10.5 wide foot so well, they feel so comfortable (with a Dr. Scholl's insert) and have a wide enough circumference that my 16" calf has plenty of room (so I think the circumference is 17"). But if there were any fit problems, I'd send them back, because the color is not what the online version looks like (screen shows a much redder and more interesting-looking brown leather than I received). The color/leather I received is muddy brown at best, and while not overtly ugly, is pretty unattractive. I wiped them down with a leather cleaner and they look a little better. I assume everyone gets different leather in their boots; mine is not a color or look I would feel comfortable wearing in a major city. My take on these boots is that they are perfect for anything except the type of big city where what you wear matters a lot. I live near Seattle, so they will work just fine for me for heavy rain days, but they're not elegant. Utilitarian, I would describe them, and there's nothing wrong with that. Just not dressy at all.

This is my second pair of these boots. My previous pair lasted 5 years and I was SO bummed when they finally wore out. They are my go-to boot in the winter for work, out-to-dinner, etc. when big clunky snow boots will not do. These boots are 100% legit waterproof in northern Michigan snow, slush and puddles! The leather softens so nicely with age and the soles provide great traction on the ice. Comfortable right out of the box - on day one I wore them for 10 hours straight without a pinch. They look great with skirts and leggings and can dress them up or down, just wish they had a tad bit more style to them.

This is a great boot with good support. As a teacher I am on my feet all day so comfort matters. I have them in brown and black.

Fit and size is perfect. I always zip comfortably snug over jeans into regular calf-width boots and these were just the same. I am returning because: 1.) I think I'd prefer a brown boot and I find this style just a touch too casual to wear with dresses during the fall time, although they look great with denim 2. The arch is just a touch high for me as well. That being said, I am usually most comfortable in flatter shoes such as Converse and Keds. By no means do you need high arches for this boot to work and I suspect they would wear in nicely if I chose to keep them. 3.) Also, the area around the front of the ankle is a little more stiff than I like as well. Again, I think it would wear in pretty easily had I kept them. They are a lovely quality. Definitely a good choice if you are looking for casual comfort!
