These shoes are too heavy and rigid. They don’t have a cushioned feel at impact. I bought them because Brooks Beasts’ design changed to guide rails and they didn’t seem to provide the Motion Control I needed any longer. I was hoping the NBs would do the trick. Didn’t work out that way.

A mixed bag of a shoe. They are very comfortable, at least when you are sitting around. The fit reminded me of the way New Balance shoes used to fit back when the company seriously focused on fit and would actually tell you which last they had used on a particular shoe. But the soles on this shoe are stiff and heavy, which makes the shoes unusable for any running or serious walking. I have had more flexible soles on rubber tire sandals. I have been running in mostly New Balance shoes for decades, and these are worst. I ended up throwing them away. What good is it to make shoes in the USA if they are not good shoes?

My son picked these out for Christmas on-line. Once he opened the box, he didn't like them. He feels that the photos of the shoes don't represent the true look of the shoes. I plan to return these.

I am a woman with very wide feet. Finding these New Balance sneakers in a men's 7 1/2 6E was a blessing; however, the tongues of each shoe are too short and dig into the top of my foot. Thus, I am returning them.

Something's wrong at New Balance & customer service seems to be giving the "party line" rather than giving a proper explanation. I've been wearing 1540 for at least 5 years, since it replaced 1723. Never had a problem till now when both pairs, purchased in August, developed holes at the same place on the top of the right shoe on both pairs. Customer service says it's the fit, but I've been wearing the same fit and walking the same for years. I read reviews where many others are having the same problem. Tell us the problem, New Balance!!! I am so disappointed. I've been a loyal New Balance customer for 30+ years & am afraid I'm going to have to change brands. Grrrr....:

I buy New Balance running shoes exclusively, and use them for running as well as just kicking around. These shoes are not comfortable, at first they are very stiff, and I'm just hoping that after a break-in period they feel better. I've not had that issue with other NB shoes, which are nearly always comfortable out of the box. I wouldn't recommend these, particularly given the higher price.

Grey is ugly. Why did you quit making white shoes?

It's a sturdy shoe that's comfortable for long walks and biking, and the anti-roll feature provides good stability. However, they are too heavy for distance running and are better served as a general purpose trainer. My main problem with this shoe is that they appear to be cheaply made. The insoles are paper thin and provided zero cushion, I had to spend money on a pair of insoles which is annoying for a $170.00 shoe. Furthermore, I've only had these shoes for duration of the summer and there is already a hole in each shoe where my big toe comes in contact with the mesh. Also, on both shoes the rubber support around the mesh is already coming unglued. Lastly - and this is subjective, these shoes are just ugly. They look better in the pictures online than they do in person. I've worn New Balances all my life and was willing to pay extra for this shoe to support its USA sourcing of materials and labor, unfortunately this has to be the worst pair I've ever worn.

I'll be returning these shoes. I would probably order the next size - but, it is not available. Seems that a lot of styles in my size are not in stock??

My husband had knee replacement surgery. His old shoes were so heavy he was dragging his feet. When he started wearing the NEW BALANCE he said it was like walking on a cloud. Much easier to walk because they weighed so much less. Another bonus is they are made in U.S.A.

Much too heavy. Had I tried these in a store first I would not have purchased. Quality is good, Made in USA always a plus but just too heavy to wear much.

I agree with reviewer "Anonymous, Zappos Customer, November 3, 2019".. I have also worn several New Balance 1540v2 shoes over the last few years. This "improved" revised v3 does not feel as good, on verge of not wearable because they hurt my feet. Don't know why, they just do. If there is another "dusty box" of v2, please send.

Over the years I have multiple New Balance 1540s v2 and before, all fit perfect. I cannot walk in these v3 shoes. They are too long and the arch is in the wrong place. Big mistake whoever designed this shoe.

First some background, over a decade ago, I decided to switch from Nike and Asics running shoes to New Balance 990's. I never had a problem with them from a running or walking perspective and I could use my podiatrist made Orthodic inserts without issue (I have very high arches). At 68 I no longer run very much, but I go for long walks. I try for a minimum of 4 miles per day and I have gone for walks over 9 miles. With the 1540v3 I noticed an immediate difference and lack of stability (which seemed strange given that these are supposed to be more stable than the 990v4 and 990v5's I wear now). I could not even walk 100 yards before I started feeling a wonky feeling in my left knee (with mild pain). The day before I had walked 6 miles in a 990v4. I took that day off and the next. I had no pain walking around the house barefoot during that time. I tried the 1540v3 again and had the same exact experience and result. I took that day off and switched back to the 990v4. I was able to complete a 5 mile walk without any problems or pain. I then sent the 1540v3s back to New Balance. I can't speak to anyone else's experience but mine, but I have only had this experience once before (a pair of Adidas Marathons from the late 70's).

Bought as a gift for my father just for the right shoe to be defective. Contacted New Ballance expecting them to just have me send the pair back and have them replace it with a new pair. However, I was told to fill out paperwork to return the shoes then they would decide if I was approved to get a new pair... Beyond disappointed with the service.

I have always been a NB fan since they make extra wide shoes. However, this product did not have the same fit and feel of prior purchases.

Some background first. New balance has been my go to brand for well over a decade. When I buy a pair of their shoes I know that I am buying quality that lasts and that I can find shoes I like in my size. My last 2 pairs, 860 V7&V8 were incredibly comfortable from the get go. They were durable, fit perfectly (12 4e) and I loved them dearly. My V8's were finally worn out so I knew it was time to get some new shoes, but I ran into a problem. New Balance seems to have shrunk the toe box height of 90% of their shoes, causing my big toe to be jammed into the mesh, even while sitting the material was visibly pushed up. I tried multiple pairs of shoes, ordering from this site and trying prime wardrobe but they al had the same problem. Finally I went into a local New Balance store to get some advice. The folks I worked with were fantastic and patient in helping me find a good pair, eventually arriving at at the 1540v3 (they didn't have the 860's in my size) which was roomy in toe height and being a premium shoe, I figured would be even better than my old pairs. I was wrong. Initially comfortable in the store, after wearing them for 3 weeks they give me heel pain, arch pain (with new insoles as well), blisters, and intense pressure on the top of my foot. I think the 12 in this shoe may be closer to a 13 in their others, as it feels like their is just a bit too much room in the toes as I think my foot may be slipping just a bit, though I should have caught that in the store. The overlays on the mesh are starting to lift already as well. The only positives I can give these shoes is that they overall do feel well built, and are very stable to walk with, but the comfort level is just abysmal. I took a chance on a premium shoe and I paid the ridiculous price for it. When I finally get sick of dealing with these, I'm either gonna see if I can get some 860's and hope they haven't dropped the toe box height, or I think its time to finally try a new brand.

The sneaker arrived with a sticky substance on the bottom of the insole in the left sneaker. I just discovered this. I have not really worn these and have NOT work them outside at all. They are very, very heavy and uncomfortable.

Not for flat wide feet. My feet are 99% flat and was told this shoe is great for flat feet I even got the 4E, but my feet hang over the sides by ALOT putting me in extreme pain. If you have narrow and arch feet then this shoe could work. The 840s were better but my feet still hung over causing pain so I wanted to try these.
