This is a harsh shoe. I wouldn't recommend it for longer walks, and there's definitely about a 2-week break-in period. Great look and great build quality, but not for those with joint pain.
I'd also recommend:
Brooks, Ecco, Asics, Mizuno.

Second pair of 1540v3s that started falling apart after two months of wear. Quality is nowhere near in line with cost and won't be buying another pair.

This new model is not the same. I was completely in love with the 1st 2 series of this shoe. I see people complain about the short tongue, that is not an issue for me. The shoe does not feel stable as the previous series. The toe box is large enough but for whatever reason the shoe manages to irritate my large toe. I cannot wear the shoe for long durations or do any physical activities for that matter because my toe starts hurting. It's the oddest damn thing. I thought after the break in period it would go away, nope. The pictures I see posted all have holes where the large toe sits. My feet become sore after prolong use. Like I said, the 1st 2 series were amazing. I never see companies take customer reviews into consideration and reimplement the previous models but this is an expensive shoe so I hope this at least helps some people from waisting money. The Brooks Addiction used to be amazing but they did the same thing New Balance did with their 2nd series. Just introduce some new colors and leave the original damn design alone. Ridiculous....

felt maybe 1/2 size too small. also the block pattern on the sole creates pressure points across the balls of my feet, very uncomfortable

Serious NB fan. Looking for an alternative to their 940V3. This was not it by a long shot. Anti-pronation and arch support along with stability virtually non-exit. A lot of money for an average shoe and the description is misleading. Save your money.

Arch and heal support doesn't feel as good as the 990V5.

I love the 1540 but i keep getting a hole above the toe area. This is the 2nd time this has happened. Would like to see a tougher material in the toe box. And would love to see a fit for my current shoes which are like new except the holes

I have had these three weeks and the inside heal has already worn a hole and gives my heal irritation and blistering. The shoes themselves are very comfortable.

I wear the 1540v3 on the recommendation of my podiatrist and have done so for more than 10 years which, at 2-3 pairs per year, adds up approximately 25 pairs. I wear a custom built corrective orthotic in the shoe. I was deeply disappointed that they are no longer made in the USA. I also found that the fit was different, in that the toe box was not as generous, the shoe was slightly shorter than my old ones, and they laced tighter indicating that the shoe was smaller over the arch. It was certainly not the same shoe. I now have to search for another brand that meets my needs and is US made.

The NB model is nicely designed and looks good on the website. However, when I received the shoes, I can see that the materials are rather cheap. I expected more since I paid close to $200 for these running shoes.

I have had this shoe for 9 months. I am not a runner and walk about 12 miles a week. Shoe fits and feels good. The side material has worn a hole in boht shoes. i do not recommend these for the price.

The material on the top portion of the shoe wears out very quickly and tears. I alternate these with a pair of 990 and was very surprised to see the top mesh material wear out in 4 months of use. My 990s don't wear out like this. I would not recommend these but they fit very well and feel great!

Horrible. Not sure what New Balance is thinking. The quality of their shoes is going down. Even though I ordered a wide shoe, it was very tight. The last pair I got was the exact same size and width. Somehow this particular product was way too narrow. Not worth the price by a long shot. Thank goodness Zappos has a pain free return process. I’d buy again from Zappos but they didn’t have the Hoka Arahi 5 that will buy in lieu of the NB 1540v3.

I ordered a size 9.5 4E, which is how I've ordered my other NB athletic shoes. But this 9.5 is larger and the 4E is now too wide, which has never happened before. Unfortunately, I have worn them outside in the hope they would break in a bit, but not so. And now I cannot return to try a size 9 wide.

Sadly I have to return this item, because it is too short and too narrow for my foot. I've had my previous pair1540V2 (size 10.5 4E) for several years and they were super comfortable, however I can't even get these on properly-- even after loosening the laces. I'd try sizing up in length and go to a bigger width, but they aren't available for purchase at this time. All I can hope is that they can return to a version 2 style in 2022, because these just won't work for me.

I love the look and construction of the shoe. But after returning the initial shoe to adjust the size for length and width, the new pair are still too wide. This item needs to be offered in various widths.

I thought I would try a size 12 since that is closer to my foot length but alas, it was tight and uncomfortable. Also, the "2 day shipping" turned into 7 days thanks to Zappos using USPS. Poor decision.

They are a different color than the same size I have but I'm experimenting with socks so I don't have to pull the laces so tight it hurts my instep while leaving the shoe too loose and hurting the side of my big right toe.
