I wish New Balance would get these 1540's back into full production in the extra wide sizes, I found a pair in D wide but they seem tight. I have been wearing these 1540's for years and never had a complaint . They are a great shoe .

Mostly used for walking.Unfortunately this new pair of roll bar sneakers feels much cheaper than the last 2 pairs I've had.The price is way to high.

I had to return the shoes because the toebox was too shallow and I had abrasions on top of my toes.

Fabric top wore through in two months. Basic and V2 were significantly better quality.

I love these sneakers, but I don't find them to be great for running.

The fit is great on the gray color ones, the black version runs smaller. The shoes wear from the inside until a hole forms above the toes. They are over priced by 30%.

I have been purchasing this same model and size shoe for a couple years now. But it seems like this most recent pair feels like a 1/2 size bigger than usual. I tried purchasing at my local outlet, but they said they were unable to get them and have them in stock. Which I have found very confusing, since I was able to go online and order myself and have them here in 10 days??

1540s have been my go to for years. I have flat feet and an a 14 wide. Since the shoes have been made in Vietnam, I've had 2 pair in the last 8 months open up holes over my big toe within 1 month if wear. I gladly paid the high price for good quality, but more importantly to employ fellow Americans. Please return to your old ways.

I've bought these for years an now laces are failing (no second pair included), mesh over toes fails in a month and heal padding fails after two. In past these were awesome. Are they no longer made in US? I'm quite disappointed, this never happened with my v2 shoes. Not sure what happened but please reverse it!

I have worn the same model of NB shoes for many years. I have noticed a drop in quality with the last two pairs. They wear out quicker and the shoelaces lose their plastic tips leaving an unsightly pompon look.

Just received my 1540's in mail today. Right out of the box they look fantastic , they feel great.....but the insoles that comes with them is of poor quality. They are extremely thin and cheap a total disappointment now i have to buy insoles for them. I already have my 3/4 insole for plantar fasciitis. The year before last I purchased the 847's and last year the 928's the insoles that came with those where excellent and those shoes are almost thirty dollars cheaper than the 1540's .

This is the fifth pair of this particular model I've purchased and the first to not feel quite right. When comparing the length of the sole to an older pair these appear to be about 1/8 inch shorter and my feet feel somewhat hot and cramped. I've worn them on an indoor track for about 8 miles over four days and will probably have to return them. I have narrow feet and require an orthopedic shoe for plantar fasciitus. Do you have another recommendation?

The good for a person that has never had an arch and has wide flat feet is the 6E size. It's what I need for a good fit. The NB quality is not what it used to be. This particular model doesn't have a very cushioning sole. Not the best for wearing all day and long distance running on hard ground. The laces are very short. A typical New Balance shoe, unimpressive, and not worth the cost. I'm thinking that I am only paying for the 6E sizing, and being taken advantage of because I have wide, flat feet.
I'd also recommend:

I really like the shoe, looks great well made but I felt the fit was a little bigger then a standard size fitting chart might indicate. Plus the material seems to stretch a little after wearing them for a short time which gives an impression at first that they fit snugly but then stretch out a bit and the shoe feels loose on your foot. Next time I will order a half size smaller for a better over all fit when wearing them over time. Very roomy in the toe box too for a wide foot customer. 4E was a true 4E.

I was prescribed the New Balance 1540's (in size 11 1/2) by my podiatrist and to replace the insoles with Powerstep pro step control inserts(in size 11-11 1/2). I did that and they squeaked horribly bad. I called Powerstep and they suggested several thing that did not stop the squeak. But after several tries I think I have found the trouble. The 1540 insoles are larger than the Powerstep inserts (in the same size). I think the 1540 insoles are larger than normal and I am now going to have to buy larger inserts (in size 12) to go in the 1540's. I hope that works cause my wife said I couldn't sneak up on anyone. But I do walk better.

Lacked pronation control for me (the point of the shoe). May well be an individual thing.

I had to return this, unfortunately. They look like great shoes, and I am a solid eight, so I went ahead and sent them back, but they had nothing to replace it with. I ordered a 7 1/2 from another company and those fit perfect and it is a great shoe.

I ordered these shoes as a replacement for a previous version of the same shoe, that I adored. I’m a life long overpronater, and the support in these shoes is unmatched. And finding a shoe wide enough to fit over my bunions is next to impossible. These were ok. The previous version, I wore a men’s 8.5 4E. They weren’t perfect, but they were pretty good. The best I could find. When I ordered this new pair, in the same men’s 8.5 4E, the fit is not the same. The tongue feels shorter, the toe box feels more narrow, and also a good 1/2 size too long. I would exchange them for an 8 4E, but as the 8.5 already feels too tight width wise, I’m returning them.

I was very happy with the now discontinued 1260 v7. Ran multiple marathons in them. While attempting to find the best narrow (11.5 B) replacement (including making a customer service call), I landed on this shoe. It is heavier, and I was surprised how much heavier it feels on training runs. It feels more like a high support/high cushion shoe. Looks nice. But I don't love it for running. Still looking for a durable yet light replacement for 1260v7 in the NB line.

These shows are comfortable but they have a heavier feel to me and are stiff as a board. They have not loosened up with wear, and I find them less than optimal for exercising, so for the most part they are a casual leisure wear shoe. Well made and solid -- just a big

The shoe is very well made and I really appreciate they are made in USA, I wish more were. I was hoping to wear these like my older freshfoam 1080's but no dice. They are ok but do not have the arch support I need for an all day shoe.

The shoe is very stable however laces are too short especially for my size 14 2E. Fit around the top of my foot applies too much much pressure also.

Shoe is too tight in the arch area. Purchased a 993 pair, same size at the same time and it fits as previous purchases have.

Not enough support Sent them back and ordered 990 v5's. I have worn 990's for several years now. For me best New Balance shoe out there.
