I buy a shoe and it fits and I like it and when I wear it out I go back to buy the same shoe but that same model is no longer available. If I like a shoe or a model of a shoe and I've had it for a year and then I have to go through all sorts of different models to try to find one that fits as well as a model that I had because that model is no longer available I am frustrated. Finally I had to call to corporate to track down a "like"model. I have expensive arch supports that fit the model I had but it took 3 tried to find a different model that finally fit my arch supports. Either have Legacy models or an equivalency chart .

Walking and casual wear. The only complaint is that the shoes develop holes where my toes hit the top of the shoe. I believe that the material on the top front of the shoes should be stronger.

I have been purchasing the 1540's for several years. They offer great support, albeit at a hefty price. What I truly enjoyed was that New Balance produced these shoes in the USA. Unfortunately, that has changed. I am disappointed that this shoe is just another import.

Wear these everyday. Was introduced to this line to help with pain associated with overpronation and they were a dream. Shoes are solid, with stiff support; newer version is not quite as rigid, but still a ton of support. One problem is the heel tread: if the rubber wears away, you are left with a VERY slippery plastic base

My podiatrist recommended these shoes to me for several reasons and he was so right! They not only are comfortable, but they support the foot and help with my balance issues caused by MS. Because I had a gift card, I decided to purchase the exact same sneakers since they fit perfectly, providing plenty of room for the brace I wear on the right leg. However, I noticed the quality didn't seem as good as my first pair. Unfortunately, the sneakers are no longer made in the US and it shows. The seams look like they will ravel and the shoes seem to run a tad bit smaller than the other pair. Also the mesh fabric seems "thinner" for lack of a better word, I'm expecting my toe to go through it and cause a hole. All this said, I am confident that they will last as long as the others have because, at this price, they NEED to.

I have been wearing the 1540 for years, the 1540/3 does not give me more or less support, you do need additional arch support with this shoe if you have any foot issues, most of us do, and that is why we spend $169 for a pair of sneakers; My major issue is that I "punch" a small hole in the top of the shoe with my toe, every time, it takes about 12 weeks to do it, but have not found a solution: any suggestions would be greatly appreciated;
I'd also recommend:
addicted to New Balance in general and 1540 in specific:

Very good shoe but way too expensive. Could not find any other style I liked or was in stock with a wide width for less cost.

I bought these because they come in extra wide. The fit is great! Four stars instead of Five only because the cushioning is not great. Added a quality insole and much improved. Still, I would buy again. I can add cushion but can't change the fit. :-)

I like the fit for xxwide. I usually find this width size almost impossible to get in my size.

They feel adequate in general and with my custom orthotics but recently the big toe hurts and I'm wondering if it's due to the orthotic though I haven't had this problem before to this extent but even though mine is a 6e I've had some irritation of the toess at times.

Fit and size were good. These are my third pair of NB 1540 and they felt a little stiffer and clunkier than the others. My only complaint is the tongue can be longer. Overall very happy with the shoes.

Rounded toe makes the shoe feel larger and wider. Little bit of slop in the shoe overall. But for feet as big as mine, its a decent fit. Always shoe at zappos.

Comfort yes. I had the laces untied and stepped on one of them with the other shoe while walking around the house and about 6 inches of the lace exploded, it looked like a fur ball. Really strange.

I was disappointed that there were no made in USA shoes available in my size (women's 9 1/2) on your website. I had to order men's size 8 shoes and the color options are very limited. I wish you made more shoes in the USA and had them available on your website.

They fit well and are comfortable, but very heavy and the soles are fairly stiff. I think I’ll be very happy with these shoes for casual use, but they seem a bit clunky for exercising.

It is great shoe that you cannot use your member points or coupons. Customer Service is not user friendly and it took two orders to get both shoes the same size. Still waiting for discount code I was promised to receive.

We have bought New Balance for years because they offer different widths. We have purchased two pairs of the 1540 style. Both sets of shoes have gotten holes in the big toe area and one where the toe joints and foot meet within approximately three months of purchase. Prior to these two pairs, we have never had an issue with the durability of the mesh part of the shoes. Very disappointing for the amount of money spent for an otherwise quality pair of shoes. These shoes were worn most everyday for a four to six mile walk.

I have never worn a New Balance shoe because they were always too wide for my narrow feet. I was told by a rep from New Balance that this line of shoes run narrow. They do and it fits well, but the issue was in the length. The previous reviews said the shoes were small and to order a size larger. I did, and they are too big. Otherwise this would be a good running shoe in general.

The 880 shoes are very comfortable, and light weight, and have great colors. They are the shoe I will buy.

3rd pair I have purchased. Very comfortable, great support. I am a walker, can not run anymore following knee replacement. This style is not as good in winter due to cold entering, but overall great.

I'm on my third pair of these, and they provide excellent support for both running and walking. I have flat feet, but have no problems at all with these shoes and an insert. My most recent pair shipped with defective shoelaces though. They were a bit shorter than typical, and the ends wore off within a week. So I had to replace the shoelaces of my brand new shoes.

The sneakers fit well and felt a lot better than the 990v5. Due to my narrow foot it took two orders and a return to get a pair I liked. new balance made it all easy after I had to return the first pair which were subsequently lost by UPS on return. Once I figured out that New balance had to submit the claim, new balance took over and refunded my money. I then ordered a second pair and this time they felt good, the 1540v3's. I have been wearing New Balance sneakers since 2005.
