This is my favorite New Balance shoe of all the models I have tried. It is versatile enough for walking, running, or everyday moving around. The 2A width is great for narrow feet, yet leaves plenty of room in the toe box. The shoe well-made and holds up for a good amount of time. I really liked the 990 version 4, but version 5 is still a comfortable, solid shoe. It is being discontinued for Version 6, which will be out soon.

For me - this shoe runs true to size. The width also (for me) runs true to size. It has great support in the ankles (which I need) - as far as arch support - because I have such flat feet - this is not something I should provide input for. My only complaint on this shoe - is the style. I buy this style often because of my problematic feet. However - It would sure be nice if New Balance could make in this style - a more feminine version. A different color that is prettier than the black and grey offered. I have tried the New Balance Foam shoes - which do have prettier colors - but they do not have the support. Please consider making this Model with a prettier color

Extremely comfortable shoes loving them so far. I can't believe that I waited so long before buying these shoes for me and my husband. Yes they are a little pricey but well worth it! Now, even my children have these same shoes!

I've tried countless brands and spent quite some money, and these are definitely worth it. Most athletic shoes would leave my shins and feet hurting, I have not had this pain while wearing these. Very pleased.

I ordered the extra wide shoes which are not easy to come by and I was not disappointed. This model of shoe was wide enough and comfortable as soon as I had tried on the shoes. I usually have to break in my shoes but not with the extra wide size.

This is my go to sneaker for support and comfort. I buy a new pair every season. I think I'm on my 6th pair of 990v5 sneakers.
I have tried several styles of APL sneakers. They are nice, but the 990v5 sneaker is my favorite.

I just had an ankle replacement. These sneaker give me full support, my orthotics fit comfortably inside and it comes in a wide width.

I just treated myself to a new pair of 990v5 sneakers. They are and have been my favorite everyday shoe for the past 10 years. I love their perfect fit and the comfort they provide throughout the day. From walking to gardening to hiking they are the best.

That is what I feel like people must say about me. The 990 is the most comfortable shoe in the world, and I have had many pairs. The only thing I haven't liked is the white shoelaces on the grey color. They don't match the shoe, they look cheap and have to be changed out before I'll wear them. I have very wide feet and the women's EE is perfect.

I have a wide foot and need a deep toe box, with solid support for the ankle. I get all of that with these. I wish they would bring back more secondary colors, like adding back the bright orange onto the navy blue pair, and adding back the lilac to these gray ones. I miss them both and would buy more in these color mixes if I could.

I have been wearing the 990 for over 25 yrs. I thought it was being discontinued and panicked! I have narrow feet and buy at least 2 pair a year. This is the only sneaker I wear.

I have had several versions of this shoe--now on version 5! It provides great support for outdoor and treadmill walking for miles every day.
It is comfortable, but not meant to be cushy. It takes the pounding on hard surfaces well.
