The shoes may be well-made, but very clunky looking. They are also uncomfortable on my feet, heavy and hard.

After finally wearing out my last pair of 990v3 shoes, I tried these, but was disappointed. The v5 felt like a big, boxy shoe, and also felt very hard, so I returned them. I want more cushioning and a shoe that hugs my foot.

I wear a 10AA and these shoes seemed true to size. Pros: Very cushiony, I like the "stiffness" of the sole because I don't want my foot to bend when I walk, comfortable, fit my orthotics (I always wear them on top of the insole rather than removing it because I have low volume feet). Cons: With the orthotics, my big toe pressed against the shoe in a way that would lead to a hole in the shoe eventually. Also, these shoes are very heavy. So unfortunately I had to return them.

Very disappointed in the 990v5 shoes. I have been wearing these shoes for more than ten years and the 990v5's are totally different. The heel is too deep and too high. They rubs my ankles all the way around and they seem heavier than the others, Hopefully they will bring back the old style,

I have worn New Balance for years, including the prior versions of 990 and 840x4. This 990 is substandard - heel counter is just a little higher, enough to be above my ankle socks and irritate my heel. Not sure if they changed sizing, but my heel slips in this version, which has never happened before. Toe box is narrower, even in my usual 8 WW size. This pair is going back - thanks for great return policy, Zappos!

I had been wearing NB shoes especially the ones that are Made in US for many years and I thought it is time to get new ones. I bought one pair in June before I left for a trip. Even though I barely wore the shoes during the trip, I noticed that the side stitching was undone in less than a month after the purchase. I took it to the store I bought and they tried to sew it, but still it does not look what it is supposed to. The ones that I bought 8 years ago had a double stitch and definitely were better quality than the ones bought recently.

The sole is not that comfortable. Asics nimbus 23 is so much more comfortable than this. Needs more breathability, more arch support and it needs more of a foam sole to have more cushion to walk on.

I wanted to buy Made in American and am happy to pay the price. However, I usually buy Skechers and I must say New Balance isn't as padded and soft. Also, every brand I am 9 1/2 but your brand seems a tiny bit small. Not small enough to send back, they are OK, just seem a little small.

After spending so much on the gray shoes, I finally bought the navy ones in the same size and version. They fit much better and don't hurt my back.

Beautiful shoe. Well made but very small. I did not order next size up because i doubt that would fit. I have size 10 NB's and they fit fine. This shoe in a 10.5 was extremely tight in length.

I am not sure if I will buy this shoe again. I have worn New Balance for years. I have worn the 990. 990v1. 990v2, 990v3, 990v4, 990v5, and many before these. I feel like you have changed the last, they are much narrower in the toe box. I need the very narrow heel, otherwise my foot slips forward. I am contemplating sending this pair back. It is only the shut in order that stops me.

I really loved wearing these shoes before I developed little toe & sides of the feet problems. Now I cannot wear them even in Wide 2E because the toe area is too narrow. With so many aging seniors I wish a company would design a comfortable walking/hiking shoe with large toe box & wide fore front shoe & a normal heel like Keen only in a comfort shoe like the 990. It would benefit so many old feet!

Thought that we had ordered another pair of 993's, and didn't realize until after wearing them and feeling lack of arch support and slippery soles, even more slippery in the rain. Waiting for new stock of navy or black ladies 993s. Will wear my old 993s until then.

I've always worn New Balance shoes. These are the worst NB shoes I've ever had. I loved the W990GL4 . They replaced that shoe with this uncomfortable, heavy, foot damaging, overpriced excuse for a guality shoe.

I used to love the 990s until they went to the v5. The first pair or 2 of v5 were "okay", though no where near as good as the v4. Each successive pair (I get new ones every 6-9 months) has felt cheaper and cheaper, and I am having more and more foot, ankle, and knee pain. They may feel good for about a month, and then the cheap support is completely flattened. For the price, this is completely unacceptable. I can no longer wear these shoes and I don't know what to try next. Very, very disappointing, New Balance.

I saw this shoe multiple times on Pinterest and thought it would look cute on my 9.5 size foot. It did not. They give me uncle grandpa vibes.

I got these in grey and black. The grey pair was fine. The black pair had a defect in the right shoe that made my toes go numb. Would order another in black since I like the style so much but don't want to go through the trouble if this is something in the production line.

Bought a pair of 990v5. Part of the bottom of the sole separated with six weeks of purchase. I contacted the company, sent them the information they required and they told me they'd review it and get back to me. It's been months and after repeated additional emails I've heard nothing back. The shoes have only gotten worse. They take on water whenever it's wet, and I leave wet footprints where ever I go as the water squishes out of the sole. Paid for a USA-made product and got this mess. I've ripped off by New Balance. There are a lot of other companies with much better customer service who stand behind their products.

My shoes arrived with one normal NB990 insole, and one Ortholite insole, in two different sizes, different thicknesses, with different shapes and different fit, made of different materials. When I contacted New Balance to correct the issue, I was told they could not send me either a matching second insole for either the 990 or Ortholite, and they could not sell and ship me a different insole that would fit these shoes, NB only sells and ships insoles in the USA but not in Canada. They advised me to return the shoes to them instead. What a waste of expensive shoes, I sure hope they don't re-sell this pair to someone else!

Only wore it once and the midsole grey paint started to chip. Exchanged another pair still has the same issue, not sure if need to exchange again.

I have been wearing New Balance shoes for many years; however, I have not been very lucky with the newer versions. The 990v5 was the biggest disappointment. Other than the style, this was the most uncomfortable shoe I have ever tried. They rubbed my toes (even though they were not too short), rubbed my inner and outer ankles of both feet, the tongue was so long that it poked the front of my foot, and the bottoms of my feet were also hurting. I had ordered the 1540v3 in a 12, 2A, but it was too long and not available in an 11-1/2. I found that to be perfect so I'm hoping Zappos gets my size in again. Seems like a lot of people loved the 990v5 but it wasn't for me. Still love Zappos though!
I'd also recommend:
ASICS (looks like they are no longer making 2A anymore)
