Customer Reviews New Balance Made in US 990v5

The v4's fit perfectly so I got the same size in the v5's. Ordered a size 12 Standard and it felt pretty tight around my feet. When I talked to customer service they recommended returning them for a Wide pair. The Wide pair feels too large around my feet. So now I have a 12 Wide and have them laced as tight as possible. I desperately need good sneakers ASAP for an event where I'll be on my feet all day for several days - so I'm kinda stuck with them. Visually these are a definite improvement over the older models. On that note I wish the toe cap was on the top layer and more obvious / protective and the gray heel cushion went all the way around the heel instead of stopping 3/4 around the inside heel.

I like the 990v04 better. From a stay perspective. The comfort and fit are typically great. General styling not a rugged and aggressive as 990.v004.

Super comfortable, but has lost some edge in styling. I bought a cheap on sale pair V04s. Like the style so much better. Comfort awesome in either!

The lft shoe seems like a 2nd as there's an unsown lump protruding inside the shoe where the tongue was joined to the upper. Didn't send it back bc I think I can fix it myself. Quality control didn't catch it, I guess.

I use the product for walking/jogging - Walking surfaces include treadmills, crushed gravel, woodland paths and concrete. I am no-longer able to use New Balance shoes for any court-type activities because New Balance 'dropped' my width, (3E). I able to walk/job with a 4E shoe but a 4E provides too much 'lateral movement' for non-linear activities. (New Balance widths include 2E and 4E).

These were the replacements for newer pair of shoes that the soles came OFF BOTH. Received only a $40.00 credit that had to be used only on the New Balance website. Had to pay a higher price on the site then in a store with discounts. New Balance does not stand behind their products, not willing to replace defective items.

They are comfortable enough, but they are squeakers, definitely not sneakers. Right out of the box, with every step they squeak audibly. I have bought dozens of 990s in my lifetime, without this problem. This squeaking also happened with the last pair I bought, but at least I had had them for a while before it started. I traced the problem on that earlier pair to detached black rubber on the bottom. Can't find anything detached on the new ones, though. A quality control problem, perhaps.

I was told by New Balance customer service the 990v5 was a good replacement for the 940v4 which is no longer available in my size. I found this not to be true as the toe box is narrower in 990 plus they are much more expensive. Hopefully, New Balance will come out with 940v5.

Bought a pair from a New Balance store. On the third day of wearing them the right shoe developed a loud squeak every time I took a step. Brought them back to the store and they could easily hear the squeak. They exchanged them for a new pair. I got back to my car was looking them over more and noticed one of the side pieces wasn't stitched all the way. The stitching was there but it was like they missed stitching the piece together with the shoe and stitched directly onto the shoe. Brought the shoes back into the store again. They didn't have any more of my size and said they could order some. I ended up just having them refund my money. Was very disappointed because I really liked the shoe, they look nice and are very comfortable, but for being such an expensive shoe there shouldn't have been problems with two pairs. I've worn New Balance most of my life but I am very hesitant about getting the 990's again. Will probably get a different model.

Ordered the 990V5 online. Order was processed in a timely manner and the shoes were delivered. Unfortunately, the inner foam cushion for the right shoe was missing. Took me awhile to figure out why the right shoe wasn't comfortable. The missing foam cushion leads me to believe that this was a shoe that had been returned. Disappointed, as I ordered online to get brand new shoes. I am a regular wearer of NB shoes and this is the second time that I received used shoes from an online order. The first time it was obvious the shoes were used as there were clear scuff marks on both shoes. Please don't sully your reputation.

I have been buying this same shoe since 2010. Purchased over 15 pair that I've kept. Lately I am returning 3 of every 4 pair I buy because when I pull out the insert to put in my orthotic I see that the inseam is not completely sewn together. It is where the seam gap is that the shoe starts to spread in later life. I need all of the narrowness I can get, not a shoe that goes from xtra narrow to narrow on its own. When this started to be more common I went back and inspected all of my really really old worn out pairs (now gardening shoes) to see if this was really abnormal AND guess what- all of my old shoes purchased 2010 thru maybe 2016 still had tight stitching completely connecting fabric to fabric in the floor of the shoe with no gapping. AND, those are thoroughly worn out shoes. I bought 2 pair earlier this year, kept one pair but returned the other. So I tried again last month. Bought 2 pair and had to send them both back. I will probably wait till the V6's come out at the end of the year to try again. It seems to clearly be a failure of inspection during the manufacture process. These return pairs appear to have never been inspected, so they get boxed up for shipment. Plus the return process is laborius. I have to find a friend with a computer connected to a printer, and ask the friend to liaison with NewBalance on my behalf in order to obtain the mail back label. In the past New Balance simply mailed me the label on request and I put it on package no prob. This time it took me multiple connections with customer service reps working from home, with no authority to really help customers. One of whom kept me on the phon for 3 hours while she kept trying to get her bosses at N.B. To help her on another line, her bosses silent for 3 hours. She said someone would Call me back but didn't happen and I was left with no resolution to label problem. After couple days I called back and got a better rep who sent the label request to my buddys computer.

Having started with my NB 320s way back when, it was disappointing to receive two new pair of 990v5 and have the right side of the tongue be unfinished. Hopefully this was a one time whoops not a new quality standard.

I ordered a 13w which is what I usually wear. I wish I would of ordered a 12 and a half wide since the 13w runs big. My left foot has more space then my right. Feel free to send me a 12.5W if you'd like.
