I usually go with 828 line, which is $75 less. I finally changed and spent some more thinking the overall fit and quality might be a little better. Not so! I am very disappointed

I got this because of its reputation for accommodating arthritic big toes. For bunions, it's another story. The lower inside seam of the tongue meets my bunions, causing pain. Perhaps that's because the tongue is lower than other models. I was thinking of trying another style (Roav v2?) that might have the tongue up a little higher so it won't press against my bunions.

When I laced up my shoes, I found one of them only had one lace hole punched in the top. The other show had 4 like it was supposed to

Been wearing NB shoes for over 50 years; have worn no other. Well made, fine support and they have a good selection for narrow sizes. So I graded up to the big time. I had been wearing 577's. Although the 990's are comfortable; not enough cushioning for walking. i have bad knees and plantar faucitis. The 577's served me better for walking and at half the price. These are all around shoes and not specifically for walking, which may have been my mistake. That being said I just ordered a pair of NB 847G4's which are designed for walking, and let's see if those work out better. Either way, I will remain a loyal customer.

I have very narrow feet and these shoes fit pretty well. My three star review has to do with the cheap plastic lace grommets used for the top two lace holes. These grommets failed in the first month of use. The grommet has two holes and the plastic partition broke such that the lace jammed in the slit between the holes making it impossible to pull the lace in or out. A simple round metal eyelet would have prevented this problem. I find this chintzy construction totally unacceptable in a shoe costing north of $170.

I have used this version of the show for over 7 years now and have definitely enjoyed the durability and availability. I was disappointed that the grey color was not available for over 6 months.

I have been wearing 990's for 20 years I do not like the version 5 they just don't fit the same. The toe box is wider. 4E too wide now and 2E a little tight.. not to mention I think the soles wear out a little faster.. Home the Version 6 is better.

I love these shoes but the tongue falls to the side within a few minutes of walking and if left to the side, causes blisters. A shame, otherwise very comfortable.

I was pleased with the almost 4000 very high ratings and the many wide options. NB used to be my go-to brand, so I gave these gray suede shoes a try for cold weather all-terrain walking and jogging. But compared to other shoes I tried (like Hoka and Altra), these were the thinnest soles, heaviest shoes, and least comfortable. They also smelled like a vinyl pool toy, and the lacing strips were thin and unfinished, making me wonder about the laces cutting through the material. Sadly, I returned this pair.
I'd also recommend:
Altra, Hoka

The shoe was very good, and it was the 4E width that I need. I found the shoe heavier than I expected, otherwise they were fine. I have returned the shoes for a refund.

This is the second time submitting this review as the moderators didn't publish my first review which included photos. I have worn the 990 family of shoes for over 20 years. I was always satisfied with them. However, the last 3 pairs, including the 990v5, developed sizeable holes in the big toe area. My feet haven't changed, so I conclude that the mesh on top of the shoe is now of inferior quality. Please consider using tighter stitching or better materials for the mesh. Or, even better, consider using solid material over the big toe area. These shoes are too expensive for the mesh to come apart. Please publish my review.

I love my 990 version 4. I feel that the version five is somewhat of a downgrade. It is still comfortable, but the fit seems flawed.

The shoes are really good. Was never able to buy the inserts my podiatrist recommended. Very disappointed about that. So I bought them elsewhere.

I love this model shoe and have purchased multiple versions of it over the years. On this pair, the tongue of the left shoe was sewn in at an angle. I was able to use the shoelace pass-through on the tongue to hold it largely in place, but I am going on a trip and do not have time to explore a replacement.

I love New Balance and my 990s - but I'm disappointed by this latest delivery. The right shoe tongue keeps slipping away to the right.

I use this product for work. I walk a lot and climb out of the truck, as well climb up and down stairs. The sneakers are comfortable, I got the 2E (wide) in an 11.5. I recommend downsizing to an 11, maybe even a 10.5. The sneakers also have good grip on the bottom. There's a couple of things I don't like. Number one, the laces are ridiculously long and you have to tie them tight to stay on. Number two, the sizing and the toe space. I know I'm an 11.5, because all my other sneakers from different brands are 11.5. These felt like a 12 or even 12.5. Still comfortable, just wish I didn't have that much room to move up and down in the sneakers.

I get a pair of v5 every 1.5 years. Just got my 3rd pair in blue. This pair feels a bit wider, not a welcome surprise.

I bought these back in December 2020. Few things I noticed. These run big, half size to a full size bigger. I bought a size 13 but could have gotten away with a 12 no problem. Biggest advice is try on different sizes. I needed insoles so I am running Superfeet greens. I walk 4 to 6 miles a day in these and they seem to be doing ok. The only cosmetic issue is the part of the sole that goes up in front of your toes is starting to pull away.

I give it a 3 stars because the stitching. is rather not good on the upper part of the left shoe. This will not hold for long and it'll rip.

I just got it on Friday after two returns. Zappos customer service is the best in the world. This pair is very good but the size is much larger than I have had (refer to the photo). Why did NB change size?? Unfortunately, I have to return it soon :-( It is too bad the smaller size is not available.

Love this shoe! Very disappointed as you have had none available for the last 3 years. This is classed as one of your core shoes! You get us hooked on this product for the hard to fit and then not supply it. But introduce it in all new colours but not all sizes
