This is used for everyday walking. I use to get NB summer sneaker (504, 503/4, 60lNB) but the cheap webbing in the wide part of feet would bust out after a few months of wear. And these were 4Es!!! Out of desperation I went to a NB store in Philadelphia to see if there were any other options. A measurement of feet indicated that I was a 5E. No normal retail store sells any wider that 4E. Even the NB store does not carry that many greater than 4E and definitely not in my size. I tried on several 4E with some webbing for summer usage and ordered at the store t a pair of 90GL5 in 6E. The fit slightly big at hell and just slightly loose at wide part of feet. I hope that after some wear that the webbing hold up, If not, I guess I will no longer be wearing summer style shoes since NB is the only one that makes wide sizes(4 and 6E). And OMG, the price was outrageous.

Insoles are much improved. Used to switch them out for Dr. Scholl's immediately.
One shoes seems to be a little narrower than the other, but maybe it's my feet!

This shoe has been my daily shoe for over 15 years. It is important to me that it is made in the USA, and it comes in extra wide (4E). I have been a loyal New Balance Customer for over 30 years. More USA made products would be great.

The shoe fits well, and I fairly comfortable. The only reason the shoe isn't 5 stars is the price. There are better options on the market for better prices or that go on sale.

Previous versions felt sturdier than the latest version. That is a subjective opinion but I read that others also feel this newest version, 990v6, is less desirable than 990v5 which apparently is no longer available.

This shoe felt a little larger than I thought it would be. The tongue is a little stiff and plump, and it irritates the top of my foot at the opening for the ankle quite a bit.

I have been wearing 993s pretty much since they came out. 993s are hard to come by now, however, especially in colors other than grey. So I decided to try the 990v5. In my opinion the only advantage of the 990v5 over the 993 is that they weigh less. For my foot they feel a little tighter. Also my 990v5s squeak with every step. I also don't like two things about the tongue. First, the little slot in the attachment on the tongue through which I have usually put the laces, to help keep the tongue centered, does not line up with the position of the laces. So the function of that slot has effectively been removed due to the choice of where to position it. Second, there is a stiff American flag logo right where the laces tie. I've never had a shoe with a stiff piece like that where the laces tie, and I don't like it on these shoes. New Balance - please step up production of the 993s.

First I love new balance 990's but the new v5 model is causing major a problem. It took me awhile to figure out why they were constantly squeaking. The new translucent TPU panels are the cause! Other than this annoying and embarrassing noise they're awesome.

I bought these after they made a number of "best-of" lists for walking shoes. They're comfortable, but not especially more than any other number of sneakers. Because they're not widely available in stores, I ordered a pair in my regular shoe size. Perhaps a wider size would be a bit more comfortable. I don't imagine ordering sneakers again online without being able to try them on. For this much money, they don't really stand out to me.

Been wearing this shoe (different versions as is changes) for 15 years. It's great! I take narrow width and this has not been manufactured for the last 4 years although it still shows on sizing chart. It seems NewBalance is now put efforts to the return of the 80s shoe and different colours of this shoe in medium width and not their core stock and sizes. Very disappointing

I had a pair of the 993s and they are my favorite shoe hands down, they were widely unavailable for a while so I looked at the 990s. The shoe is fine overall, however, all my other shoes from NB are 10.5 yet these feel much bigger in the heel and toe area. Making them uncomfortable unless I choke the laces.
On the exterior of the shoe, there was cracking and pealing of what I can assume to be a liner of sorts around the heel part of the shoe. Makes it unappealing to wear out sometimes.
This shoe is still good quality overall! I am unsure if the issues I have are isolated, but it is my experience so take it with caution!

Just bought my 6th pair of these exact shoes for my 18 year old. I buy him this one good pair at least once a year as he has flatter feet. Super disappointed that I couldn't use my 10% off for joining your email ads, as they increase in price each year. With 4 kids I could have benefited from 10% . Usually I go to New Balance Store to buy so have never got a discount. Love the shoes but my very active son completely wears them out faster then you'd think possible for this price. I am a Senior, I walk, on average 12 miles a week and ride my bike 40 miles. I have worn Rockport Pro Walkers for the past 15 years. The issue I have had with the Rockport's is the 10W was an overly tight fit in the toe box for my left foot. But, for the price, I endured. My wife, who due to an extra wide foot, is a challenge to fit when it comes to shoes, has been using New Balance for a number of years and is quite pleased especially with the extra width. For this same reason I thought I would give NB a try and called NB customer service who recommended model 990V5 in a 10XX size. I have walked about 22 miles with the shoes, so far, and am very pleased with the fit in the shoe box. I am not as pleased with the heel cushion, the much less expensive, 75% less, Rockport's are far more comfortable in the heel.

These shoes are great, we have had many pairs for our son. However, they don't wear well and they are EXTREMELY expensive. Our son is an athlete, so we have purchased many pairs of shoes. Based on competitor's products, I would expect these to be 1/2 the price they are.

The shoe is very comfortable and well made but every time I would take a step the shoes made a noise like walking on snow so I had to return them and bought a similar shoe from NB. Other than that I think it is really a good shoe with a lot of cushion.
