I used to love NB but the company service is awful!! No customer service person to talk to. I had to email and it took 4 days to get back to me. Other businesses improve Cust service during Covid - NB gets worse. I ordered 2 pair of shoes - 1st came with no holes for laces so I returned them. Second pair came was wrong color GRRRR!

Quality shoe. For me this would be a daily walking shoe, but the toe is too narrow for my foot.

My husband only wore these as his "dress" sneakers - they did not get heavy use and he wore a hole through the reflective material on top of the toe box. Very disappointed!

I've been a loyal NB customer now for 25 years. The 990v5 or any iteration there-of, specifically. My only complaint? NB used to run specials. But one pair, get a second pair at 50% off. Haven't seen that in years!

I was replacing my running shoes every 2 to 3 months. I can't afford that any more, now I make a pair last 6 months

Been running for 70 years, longer than Forrest Gump. Basketball, Football (Even a Super Bowl), Track (880, high hurdles, HJ), and with AA flat feet. Real flat feet. These are the best fit yet. Flat narrow feet with zero padding require a great shoe and there are the ticket!!

I walk for exercise every day as a 70 year old retired person. These shoes have helped me lose a lot of weight and greatly improve my health. The only change I make is to insert OTC Powerstep Maxx insoles due to my flat feet.

The plastic eyelets at the top of the laces have all cracked. The tongue rides down despite running the laces through loop on the tongue. I have had 990 series before and was happy up to now. The V5 is poorly designed. It is not worth the premium price.

New Balance are the best shoes for those of us with wide feet. I will never buy another athletic brand.

The 990 series is a great shoe. Last about 9 months with frequent use. Use to buy 2 pair a year, price has changed that. But I would prefer American made thus raising cost. Thanks for great product.

The USA made New Balance sneakers are of high quality, correct size and very comfortable to wear and walk in. They are the best of have worn in years, and would recommend to anyone else. They are indeed worth every penny that they cost. Would highly recommend the purchasing of these USA made sneakers.

The 990v5 is quite expensive, but you do get what you pay for. It's not only made in the US, but pretty much hand-made. I saw a Youtube video of the folks at the New Balance factory in Boston making these; it's basically hand-sewn with loving care by experienced artisans. You can see the craftsmanship in every detail, from the perfect stitching to the high quality materials to the total lack of even the most minor of imperfections - I mean, these ship PERFECT. I do own a variety of other NB and Dunham shoes, and honestly there's no comparison between all those mediocre Chinese-made shoes and this flagship model. Sizing is right on the money and fits me perfectly. It's on the firm side, which I like, and doesn't really have that "walking on clouds" factor that some people want - I think it'd require some custom insoles to get that plush feel some prefer. Very supportive and in particular the arch support is prominent. Tons of room in the toe box, and absolutely no heel slip for me, which is often a problem. As far as the look, I personally love it. It's the iconic, classic shoe; it's the shoe everyone knows. Sometimes dad shoes are in the trend and other times not as much, but the 990 is ALWAYS the classic, traditional New Balance shoe. I could easily see why someone would opt to buy a $50 sneaker instead, but truth is, those are going to fall apart a loooooong time before these do. The 990v5 is investment-grade.

Use for practice and races (half and soon full marathon) up/down Barr Trail on Pikes Peak. I have narrow feet so I buy the B width. Except for the 998 Bringbacks, this family of shoes (99x) has always fit perfectly and they provide stability and comfort needed for long distance running on very uneven and varying surfaces. Being mostly made of USA materials in the USA they last longer than foreign made shoes. I always turn them into general walking shoes for years after I retire them from running.
