I love these shoes. I'm right on the cusp of a 39 and 40 in Birkenstocks and I got a 39 in this style. I prefer a 40 for Bostons. The Garys felt a little tight at first but the suede softened and stretched out and now they're perfect. I think they would've felt too much like flippers if I got a 40. The firm sole is so comfortable. They're a little frumpy, but I like that.

I can report with experience that these are comfortable sans socks. The ankle rubbed on my right foot but I trimmed the suede down 1/8" and problem solved. I am confident that I can go about my summer day and not destroy my toes or slide sideways off the heel, as I have done with sandals.

Reviews said these run small, but they were huge on me. I wear a 41N so I ordered 42N. Although Birkenstock calls them narrow, I’ve also seen them called M/N. They were just too wide and too big.

ADORABLE shoe. In fact, I'm having trouble sending it back even though it's not supportive enough for me. Has *almost* the normal Birk arch support, but that is IT! Absolutely none of the other Birkenstock foot support. I wore them almost a whole day around the house and the balls of my feet felt a little bit raw. Weird for a Birk. But, truly, if you can get away with less support, these are so much cuter than pictured. My household full of fashion-forward 20-somethings are all jealous of them!

I got clogs to wear as house shoes and the Gary to wear with casual clothes. I deliberately chose these as I felt they would give my feet the room they need. I have had two hammertoes corrected by cutting the tendons which straightened the toes, making them longer. I always add Dr. Sholl's insoles to all my shoes as I have an issue with the metatarsal bone in my foot. I am wearing thick, warm socks and the shoes fit well with these.

I wear a 38 medium in Birkenstock sandals, and the 38 narrow fit my medium-width foot. I loved everything about this shoe, except the side of the shoe near the heel is too tall and rubs (“cuts” in) against my ankle. Unfortunately, I am returning these shoes.

I love all Birkenstock’s. Had to get a size larger because of the narrow width but the color (Pink) is perfect and with the discount, was a steal.

These are cool looking shoes in the silver. I'm able to wear them either barefoot, as suggested, or with thin socks. They have the classic Birkenstock footbed. Nice!

These are beautiful shoes. Unfortunately, although I always wear 38 in Birkenstock, these definitely do not work. They are too narrow. The site says that "narrow" should fit both narrow and normal width size, but this is not the case.

i was hesitant to try these but they don't look as much like clown shoes as I thought they would! I've switched to birkenstocks due to necessity (foot pain) and their footbeds really are crazy comfortable and supportive. these shoes feel okay and since they're leather, they should stretch to fit my foot so I hope they just become more and more comfortable. these are only offered in narrow width and they feel... narrow. I have one foot that is wider than the other due to an old injury and it feels quite cramped in this shoe. The footbed itself feels okay so I'm hoping once the leather stretches it will be more comfortable. but come on! why is standard width only offered in certain styles????

Although my Arizona sandal size 37 was the best fit in the Gary, the "narrow" footbed was not nearly as comfortable as "regular," and sizing up didn't help. I wish this style came in regular width for smaller sizes. The narrow footbed was wide enough at the toes and heel but too narrow on the inside of arch where the seam cut into my arch. Also, as other reviewers noted, the shoe is high at the ankle, causing rubbing. I solved both problems by adding a 3/4 insole insert that padded the arch and raised my heel. The Gary's insole is not removable so I couldn't use my orthotics. I do love how the shoe looks, especially the silver color, and it's comfortable with my insert solution.

If I could, I would wear my Birkenstock Gizehs every day so I was excited to try the Gary. I wear a 39 in the Gizeh so I ordered a 40 in the Gary, hoping to gain a little extra width, since the shoe has a narrow fit. It was not enough width for me and if I had ordered a size 41, they would have been too long. The toe box is plenty roomy and the heel fit snugly enough, they were just too tight across the forefoot. I did not have a problem with the the sides gouging my ankle bone. The shoes are super cute and well-made and the washed metalic silver is really nice, but alas, I am returning them.

I did order a size bigger than usual. The shoe is difficult to get on, so I have to use a shoe horn. I am wearing around the house to see if I will keep them, as I love Birkenstock sandals with the soft foot bed, so I have to see if they feel good with socks. Stay tuned.

This particular pair should have been rejected as a 2nd, as the vamp wasn't sewn properly, so the shoe was tremendously uncomfortable and slipped. It's not a statement on the style, as I have another pair of Gary's, and they are buttery soft and tremendously comfortable - it's just unfortunate that this particular pair missed quality control.

I wanted to love this shoe and I did love the style! As I read in another review though the sides are cut so that they rubbed the sides of my ankle bone and with any amount of wear would have made that area sore. The toe box felt small to me, I wear a size 9 in every US made shoe. My toes were cramped but had it not been for the side rubbing my ankle I would have kept them and hoped that the suede would stretch with continual wear.

Normally wear a 41 but sized up to a 42 and the length was fine. However, even in a narrow width the ankle/heel was still too wide. Also, the outside of the shoe hit right under the ankle bone and was uncomfortable.

Based on the majority of reviews that suggested you size up, I ordered a 9 instead of my usual 8. They were huge. If you have narrow feet like I do, I would recommend sticking with your normal size in Berks. Also, I agreed with the other reviews that said the recessed heel caused chafing along the sides of the ankle b/c the side of the shoe was too high. That was the case for me as well. They look super cute so I was bummed that they didn't work for my feet but had to return.

This is a beautiful shoe, but huge!!! It would be next to impossible to love it until I get a smaller size. I hope the next size down works. This huge size is much larger in a 38 than my normal Birkenstock size 38.

I don't have a wide foot, but these pinched across the ball of my foot with every step. Disappointing; i liked them alot!

I am a huge fan of Birkenstock’ shoes. I own multiple pairs and wear them all summer. I wanted to like these just as much, but not even close. These shoes rub my ankle bones. My son said I look like I have clown shoes. I’ll try other closed toe Birkenstock’s for fall. These are a return.

According to the Birkenstock site, this shoe was designed to be worn either as a clog or a closed-in shoe. The back of the shoe folds down to become a clog. I bought it expecting to wear it ONLY as a closed-in shoe in cooler weather. The overall look is very appealing, and the black suede definitely makes a statement. HOWEVER the shoe fit me improperly when worn closed-in. It cut into the outside of the foot toward the ankle bone, so I needed it to be a bit wider there. Since the shoe only comes in a narrow, I am returning it. So disappointed.

Since I have another part of the Gary style, I was pleased to see one on discount. However, the reason that this particular pair was discounted was because it was flawed. The left shoe had pieces that weren't cut out/sewn properly, so the shoe didn't fit correctly and slipped around too much.

I wanted to love these. I sent back the 36 I usually wear as, while the footbed fit perfectly, the body of the shoe was overall way too tight. When I got the 37s they were big, but doable with big socks. Until I tried to walk. They are very high cut on both sides and were digging into my ankles. The footbed is the Birkenstock I need, but the over all shoe was just too uncomfortable for me to keep.

My high instep kept me from getting my foot into the shoe. Normal Birkenstock size is 35 Regular sandal. I can't begin to guess what Birkenstock shoe size I could wear. Had to return.

I should have listened to the other reviewers who talked about how stiff the leather was & how the shoe hits the ankle bone. Could barely hobble to the mirror & see how they looked. Too painful for me, surprised Birkenstock would do this.
