I love this cute tie up style of Birkenstock! In the late 70's and early 80's I wore nothing but Birkenstock's. I even went hiking in them. There was only one style in those days as I recall. I moved away from them over time and this is the first pair I have purchased in many years. I think my actual size is 35 but the smallest I could order is 36. I added an extra insole (blasphemy!) and I wear them with socks.

So, I have the Gary’s in another color but ordered the black this time. Not sure what’s going on with the toe box on the inside of the shoe…maybe it’s the suede. But it kept breaking in and smashing the top of my big toe. My pink Gary’s fit great so I’m not sure if it’s just a defect on this pair. I’ll try again. I’m a 40 and the length is great. Toe box is a little wide which I love so I hope it’s a one-off. My pink Gary’s are amazing!

I have the yellow ones. Wanted to get another color but they seem to be all gone. We got a new airstream. So I got the silver ones. Last week when we were camping a gal said “Did you get those to match your Airstream?” I said”Totally” and gave her the info to get a pair!

I adore all Birks and needed a pair for chilly weather. So comfortable it feels like I’m wearing slippers. I got the same size I do in all my Birk sandals, the fit is perfect! Highly recommend

They are called narrow, but they are medium/narrow which doesn’t work in the heel. The heel is also floppy.

Ever since my back surgery, I need a tie shoe to keep my balance and I finally found it!! I do own several other Birkenstock but this is the first time that I own this type of tie shoe. Not only good looking but feels wonderful.

I've always worn the open sandals in the same size. I was afraid the closed shoes would be too snug but they're perfect. The soles also feel as good as the sandals and the uppers are as comfortable as slippers. Love them

Wow I read the reviews and I am so happy for my purchase. I bought my regular Birkenstock size of 38 and they fit perfect even with a sock liner. I got the rose color and they are beautiful; not to pink at all. I’m more of a pale skin color so they look almost nude. So comfortable for me right out of the box. So so happy with my purchase and that they were on sale too!

I am a tried and true Birkenstock fan but I live in the frozen tundra so sandals year round is not an option for me. These shoes are the perfect solution! They are all of the comfort and support that I have come to trust of Birkenstock as well as a grip that I know will keep me safe on the slick roads and warmth that will me cozy....even when i am wishing I was wearing sandals instead :)

I LOVE these so much! They fit just like my Arizonas except I can wear them to work! I wear them everyday to work and my feet don’t hurt. I walk close to 3+ miles around my job every day. The leather is soft and did not cause blisters. So glad I decided to fork-out the money for these!

These were lovely, but they dug into the side of my foot even though I have narrow feet, so I was surprised. I returned them.

I haven’t worn them yet, but I like how they fit and how they look.

Purchased the Birkenstock Gary in the Rose Nubuck in 40N, which fits perfectly and very comfortably. I work part time as a retail associate and am on my feet pretty much my entire shift on concrete floors, so need supportive, comfortable shoes to work. These Gary lace up shoes do both and are very cute with or without socks. The Rose color is a pale pink and reads more like a neutral. Great addition to my growing collection of Birkenstock shoes and sandals.

Really cute alternative to the sneaker. You can wear these with or without socks. If you have a really narrow foot like mine, you might have to wear a sock or at least a footie to take up some of the volume of the shoe. Love the silver!

I originally thought I needed to go up a size to 38 in Gary from my Arizona sandal size to wear with wool socks (as I normally do in other brands), but the cork footbed didn't line up well and the long toe felt a bit clunky. After foot pain from wearing them inside, I decided to go down to my Birkenstock sandal size 37, and the fit was much better. The shoe upper is supple and wide enough enough to accommodate a thin wool sock and I'm guessing it will stretch for a custom fit. My only complaint is this style is not available in the smaller sizes in unisex regular width. The Birkenstock narrow width is wide enough in the toe, but a bit snug in the middle of the foot. My foot is wide but thin in front with a high instep and a narrow heel. I usually fit better in sandals or boots so I'm relieved to find an oxford style that works. I love the silver color.

Color matters! The black looked like slippers, the sand made my small feet look huge, but the silver was surprisingly stylish. It would look better with trousers than with shorts or dresses. The silver appears to be a painted coat that doesn't make the suede any stiffer and might be more stain-resistant. I usually wear a 37 in a sandal and a 38 regular in a shoe with socks, and this shoe is only available in narrow for my size. Size 38 in Gary fit more narrow than the unisex Arizona 37 but still wide enough in the toes with a snug heel. As some reviewers noted, the shoe hits a bit high on the outer ankle, but rubbing was only an issue in the stiff new sand pair and not in the silver pair that had been lightly worn by others. I think this style will break in well with padded wool socks. It would rub my ankles a bit without socks unless I collapsed down the back. It has a soft structure like a slipper but enough support to wear outside. You can't remove the sole for orthotics, but it already has excellent arch support. Comfortable straight out of the box!

I ordered these in two sizes, hoping that one would fit just right. Unfortunately, they didn't work for me. I consistently wear a size 9 shoe and size 9.5 sneaker. My Birkenstock sandals are 39, clogs are 40, and tie shoes are 41. So, I ordered this shoe in sizes 40 and 41. The 40's were snug and the 41's felt too large. Actually, on one foot the 41's felt pretty good, but the other felt huge. They are very attractive shoes. I ordered the washed metallic silver and really liked the look. I'm sorry they didn't work for me and really appreciate how easy it is to order from Zappos.

This shoe is like butter. Put your foot in and it feels great. I wear them with those socks that have the ruffle on them...little girl socks. I get complimented every time I wear them.
