I got these boots for an Alternative Spring Break I was doing. We were doing trail work for a week in wet weather. These boots provided great support. My feet never sore, never wet, nor were they heavy so I never got tired having them on my feet. They were pretty much the only footwear I brought on the trip so I wore them all day every day, even when we weren't on the trail. I wear them around the city too on rainy/snowy days and they're great. Can't recommend these boots enough. I wouldn't necessarily recommend them for backpacking as they don't have a ton of ankle support, but for regular hiking or city walking, they're perfect.

I bought these to give my Moab mid hikers a break. I am currently on my third pair of the Moabs. These are light and comfortable while still providing excellent support and traction. I have only worn them for city hiking so far but am looking forward to a week of hiking the Smokies in the spring. It looks like they will be my new favorite hiking boot.

I am not a boot wearer but I am big on throwback footwear and apparel. I tried these out because the traditional look of an old hiking boot and was shocked at how comfortable to boot was overall. The midsole felt like a trail running shoe and was very lightweight. The Waterproof is great and the water just beads off the boot. They look great with khakis and jeans. I have only taken them on a 2 mile hike but I plan on taking a longer hike soon.

This is an excellent pair of boots that not only look great, but function just as well. If there's any drawback, it would be that they don't breathe particularly well, but I think that's to be expected with a waterproof shoe. Overall great boot and I would definitely recommend them.

The Ontario Mid Waterproof hiking boots have really good design, use of overall leather with minimum seams, metal hooks, and non-sliding Vibram outsole. They are comfortable. But the sole is too thin for real hiking. It should be at least 0.5 inch thick for rugged terrain. Most likely these boots will be excellent for city, parks and groomed trails walks.

I bought these to replace my old hiking shoes. The height gives me good ankle support without rubbing in an uncomfortable way. There is a comfortable footbed and my first hike in them ended up being 8 miles with no blisters. The size works great for me (I buy a half size up in hiking boots). I even stepped in mud while camping and no leaking. I got the black with blue laces and the blue POPs. I did think that they were a charcoal grey from the picture online, but the black looks great.

These boots are perfect: - Easy to put on (Tongue easily get out of the way) - Excellent sole - Not too hot But size 12 is smaller that other Merrell shoes of size 12. I am a big fan of Merrell products and size 12 always fits perfectly. And because these are boots, it should be event bigger to make place for bigger socks.

The sneaker-like style of this hiker makes for a rather sporty and extremely light weight boot that has perks both on and off trail. Out of the box comfort with minimal break-in as with most Merrell footwear is not denied on the Ontario. While some other style boots offer more room in the toe-box I'm not yet convinced that these will be any less comfortable on the forefront of my feet while traversing the trails and off-grid. The sheer lightweight footprint of these boots are what really make them amazing with less fatigue and stress on the toes and ankles as I use them to hike only time will tell if the wear and tear of the boot adds up to the level of comfort. I have yet to give the waterproof a real test but am hopeful that the leathers will not soak up too much moisture in wet terrain. I ordered a pair of the black which came with two sets of laces which is an added bonus.

Excellent boot. Only reason it is 4 star not 5 is that they are a bit warm and my feet sweat a lot. But it is the most comfortable boot I've ever worn. If your feet ache when you get home like mine used to. Then you need these boots. My feet feel great after a hard days work. I am on feet literally all day. And my feet feel great. Oh and they are a great looking boot as well.

I recently purchased the Ontario mid waterproof boots. They are very comfortable. They are lighter than expected. The collar around the ankle was slightly uncomfortable for the first couple of times I wore the boots, butt now they're broken in and is not a problem. I have mostly wore the boots around town. I hope they'll be sturdy enough to handle day hikes, but have not yet ventured into the woods.

I got a pair of the Dark Earth's last week. I like the boots a lot. I wear an 11. In this boot, the 11's were a bit too small, so I got a pair of 11.5. They fit great. My only compliant is the padded collar around the top is digging into the inside of my leg. I'm hoping it will loosen or soften up over time.

Put 34 miles on in 5 days; every type of terrain. Sealed the boots with mink oil/waterproofer twice prior to use. Extreme comfort; the most comfortable hikers I have worn....period. However, they did not hold up to the "waterproof" grade. I was absolutely soaked from walking through grass that did NOT seep down through the top side of the boot and stepping into 4 inches water. They are permeable. They also took an extremely long time to dry. If these were actually waterproof, they would be great.

Vibram sole is very good. Insole and midsole are excellent. Low weight is a bonus. Really like the Sailor color. Except - the metal hooks on the inner side of the shoe keep on digging into my foot/skin. Took a few usages/tries to break in the rest of the shoe, but the two upper hooks for the laces (on the inner side) are not comfortable. Do you have a remedy or an available cushion pad?

I like the style and comfort at the heel and ankle, but the toe box is way to narrow. I wear a D width in most all shoes, so this was unexpected. Three stars because the width is seriously too narrow. Returned.

I really wanted to love this boot. the style is killer (love the olive w/ orange laces) and it would easily perform double duty during sloppier day to day activities as well as general outdoor fun/adventure. Unfortunately, the toe box on the size 11 was just far too narrow for me to justify keeping. Interestingly, I accidentally ordered the non-waterproof version in the same size 11 and while that one felt a half size too large, the waterproof felt easily a half size too small. The shape of the toe box provided the most confusion as big toe clearance was more than sufficient, but I just felt overly sausaged in. For reference, I wear an 11 in all other Merrell products and standard with has always proven to be to more than sufficient. I'm on the fence as to whether I'll try sizing up, but I like the look so much that I may be heading that direction.

I received the Ontario Mid on a warranty replacement of another boot. It is very spacious inside, light like a large slipper with my foot not feeling secure and lots of room to slide around a fair bit, even when I crank the laces as tight as possible. The length fits true to size. I usually don't have issues with boots fitting so I wouldn't recommend this boot for people with longer, skinnier feet. I believe as sign of a good boot usually fits snug and breaks in over time. This boot I estimate will only get more ill-fitting as time goes on. And it's lightweight doesn't give the feel of a high-quality, long lasting boot.

I just received these the other day. Put them on immediately and went out for my daily 4 mile walk and thought I would break them in. Out of the box I loved them. Very comfortable and light. Width was excellent since I have wide foot. Here's the rub. At the end of my walk I noticed my foot sliding up towards the toe of the boot and it is so bad I can't wear them. My entire foot is sliding forward and rubbing up against the front of the boot. I don't know what would cause this. Maybe it's the shoe design or the sole padding but either way I fear if I went to a eleven and a half ( I am normally a 10 and half) the boot would be too big on width. I had high hopes for this boot but I can't recommend.

These boots fit nicely and are comfortable enough but the soles are foam with a vibram layer with the lugs on it, I haven't had these a year and the seams are splitting so definitely to the same quality as my last pair that made it 5 years of most every day wear before needing to be replaced, I wouldn't buy another pair

When I first put the boot on it was light and comfortable. Wore them the next day for a few hours. By the time I got home my heels felt like there was no cushion under them at all. The boot is very narrow as well. I tried them a few days later, and ended up with my feet hurting again. I guess I've got a pair of dust collectors.

I've had this boot for roughly six months. Out of the box, these things were very nice and I thought these would be my new favorite hiking boots. The color was nice, the tread was aggressive, and the design was simple. Six months later, and it has not held up to occasional hiking. The first thing to tear were the laces, after maybe 8 or 9 hikes, the laces were tearing where they crossed the eyelets. More frustrating is the way this boot is made/designed, there is a seam along the inside side right where the shoe should naturally bend where your toes do. This seam is not waterproof and does not hold up over time as the stitches will tear. The sole of these shoes is very worn for shoes only worn on trails. One positive of these shoes is that the leather seems to be of good quality, scuffing easily but not showing any deep scratches or cuts. The leather is stained from use, but that was to be expected. Overall I'm beyond disappointed in these shoes.

Purchased two pair of Merrell Ontario, one for myself and one for my son, for our trip to Iceland. First four days were hikes in dry weather and everything was great. Fifth day of the trip we went on a five mile hike in light misting rain. Ten minutes in started to feel wet. Thirty minutes in completely soaked. This is not an issue with the tongue or water leaking in through the tongue area. The boots absorbed the water. 100% not waterproof. Unfortunately no way to dry these out at the moment so the next few days we're going to live with wet stinky feet. Sorry Merrell love most of your stuff but this product is not up to your standards.

I have had these hiking boots for a week and they are already bending to one side when I walk and I'm not a big man. I can't wait to get them off my feet when I wear them. I would like my money back.
