On the size chart my hips put me at a 10, my waist measurement puts me at an 8. I ended up going with a size 10. When they arrived the shorts fit decently around my (thick) thighs, but were huge around my waist. The draw string helps get them to a place where they will stay on, although the look isn't very flattering as there is a bunch of material gathered around the waist. I missed the return window so I'm keeping them for now, but I don't plan on wearing them outside of my house. I placed an order this weekend for a size 8. Here's to hoping they work better for me as I do love the fabric/pockets/length. If only they had a "curvy girl" fit option...

These shorts are comfortable and have great pockets. I read the other reviews and went a size up from my size in the 7" length, which means they're a little loose around the waist but I don't think they would have fit around my thighs comfortably in my regular size.

These are my 4th pair of Ferrosi shorts. They're a favorite and i love that now they have the drawstring like the Ferrosi pants. Unfortunately it's almost too short to tie into a bow. I'm 5'6 and 145 pounds with athletic thighs. The 8 fits well and I've worn a 10 in the past - the thighs are none too loose, but there's plenty of give in the material to be active. I use these as quick dry river shorts, for hiking and even yoga in a pinch.

Same great material as all other ferrosi items, my usual OR size 8 fit great in the waist and hips, but these shorts are very snug in the thighs compared to even the 7" shorts and the 5" short does NOT stay put, the legs constantly ride up my inner thigh with walking/hiking. This is not the case with the 7". I am 5'8", 155# and have thighs that will forever rub. The length looks aesthetically good, and would be great if my thighs didn't rub!

Use for hiking and just hanging around town. Love the length, fabric, and roomy pockets. I have athletic thighs and wear a size 8 in the Ferrosi pants, but had to size up to feel comfortable with the fit through the thighs. The trade off is that the waist is a bit baggy, so I do have to use the draw strings.

I love these shorts, the material and the pockets are awesome. I have been looking for abrasion resistant shorts for my hikes as well as my professional life. My ONLY problem was with one pair of shorts. I bought a bunch on sale in different colors and put them in a drawer to keep for my physical education classes to begin after I of course tried on a pair to make sure the size worked. As classes have begun, I have started wearing all of the ones I purchased. All of them except for the black shorts fit perfectly. For some reason they fit two sizes too small, its like they were printed a wrong size label. Really weird. Too late to send back. I will buy more, I will just be sure to try on EACH pair to make sure it doesn't happen again. Live and learn I guess.

Overall these shorts are great - nice stretch, length I wanted and lower side pocket is very handy. However sizing between Ferrosi products is inconsistent and these fit a little snug and I wish had ordered the next size up.

I ordered these shorts in a size 10, the same size as I had ordered in the same shorts, 5" length. For some reason, these 7" shorts were too big, didn't fit the same as the 5" shorts. Was hesitant to order in a size 12, as the legs of the shorts in the size 10 were already pretty big on me. Wished they had worked for me, they are very nice shorts. I'm 5'0" and weigh 125 lbs.

I love Ferrosi shorts - I'm on my 4th pair. However, I love the 7" best. For some reason, the 5" are quite snug through my thighs. I can wear the same waist size in the 7" length and it's not a problem.

I've only used these around the house so far and love them. Nice pockets, material dries out fast, length is good. I would prefer the fit to be looser on the legs, they fit snug, but they don't hinder movement at all.

The biggest negative is they are different than the old ferrosi short. The 7" version is shorter than the older ones, and the waist is tighter for the same size as older ones (which i still have). Was hoping for a slightly longer short to be better for mountain biking. Don't get me wrong, these are great shorts, but just different than my expectation of the older version ones.

Great fabric for hiking! Please bring back the two snap closure....the new one button closure is not effective and the fabric above the button does not lay flat. I love my many pairs of old Ferrosi shorts and hope you'll bring back the snap closure.

I wish the legs were a bit looser, they fit pretty tightly. I am a 4/6 and originally ordered a 4 and it was snug in the waist and legs. I sized up to a 6 and though the waist fits well now, they legs still feel snug. I am 5'7" 135lbs and an athletic build. I use these for work in the wilderness and most appreciate the modest length of the 7" legs, and a cargo pocket with horizontal zipper. The other shorts and pants I use for work are Prana and I don't like the vertical cargo pocket zipper, because items spill out when unzipped and are hard to access. The other pockets and belt loops are functional, sturdy, deep, all the good things (thanks!!!!). Thanks, OR for making a women's design in a neutral color with all the design elements of men's shorts. +1 for function!

I was looking for the perfect hiking summer short. The past few I have ordered from other brands, they tend to ride up and I constantly have my thighs rubbing together. Who wants that? I'm 5'8" 160 lbs and typically an 8 or 10. I had to purchase these in size 12. 4 stars because thighs fit good but the waist it a tad large but there is a pull string that I can tighten the waist.
They are light weight and 5" inseam works well for me.

I love these shorts! They're very comfortable and lightweight, and they dry quickly as claimed. I've used them mostly for hiking and for work (bike shop mechanic). They're a nice length on me, falling mid-thigh. I bought size 8, I'm 5'10 and 150lbs. The only reason I gave them four stars instead of five is because there is quite a bit of size discrepancy between the two pairs that I ordered. The clay color fits perfectly, the Pewter is much too snug around the waist and is not comfortable; it fits more like a 6. Too bad, I would order more of these if the sizing were more consistent!

These shorts are comfy and easy to move around in. I didn't love the color I got but it was the only color in my size at the time. I would likely try these out again.

I was nervous at first that this was going to be too tight but it stretched out a bit after wearing it for one day. Now it's my everyday shorts!

I love the color of these short (curry) and the stretchy-ness! The only downside is the waist is pretty lose. There's an elastic band you can tie that helps, but then the front of the shorts where the button is bows out in an odd way.

These are my do everything shorts. I have even walked a marathon in them (no chafing!). So light and soft they allow complete freedom of movement. The pants are just as great.

I had grabbed a pair of these off a sale rack last November and loved them so much a decided to buy another online. I was confident in my sizing since already having a pair and was super sad when the new ones did not have the same fit and we too small :( Otherwise, love my last years pair. The soft band is such a little thing that makes such a difference.

Awesome material that moves, stretches, is breathable and quick dry for intense summer backpacking. Wore them 4 days in hot summer heat hiking over a 9,500 ft trail and they didn't stink! Only complaint is I'm a size 2 in Prana and a 4 in most other brands. Had to return and reorder because the 4 in these shorts were like spandex! Size 6 was perfect. I'm 5'2" 120 and athletic build.

These are my favorite shorts and I was so happy when I saw the recent sale I quickly bought my 4th pair. I'm disappointed they changed from the original style. My other pairs 5" and 7" have a side zipper pocket that easily fits my larger iPhone and also have a nice back zippered pocket. The new ones only have one zipper pocket and in the 5" it's vastly smaller. The sizing is also smaller than the older version too. :-/ I give the old ones a 5 star. Like the new colors!
