Always wanted a Mountain Jacket, I have the Mountain Light from 1994 with the zip in Pumori fleece, and it's still like new. The Mountain Jacket is much heavier material and a shorter length. Wore it in below zero with -50 wind chill temps, with just a fleece shirt underneath and was fine. The full hood and chin/face protection is excellent. It's obvious this Jacket was designed for Alpine climbers, so it'll work well for skiing, camping, or just adventures around town. It would be great if it came in more colors- orange, green. I also wish my old Denali Jacket, Pumori fleece, or older down jackets would zip into it.

This jacket is awesome! I bought it to be a shell for when I go snowboarding, but also as a cold weather rain jacket for the winter months in Texas. It is easy to put layers underneath, especially with a zip-in compatible jacket. I bought this in the Pink salt macro splinter camo color and it is now my favorite winter jacket I own. I would definitely recommend to anyone considering.

I owned the original mountain jacket that i purchased in the early 90's. 1993 I believe. I wore it all the way to 2017. The zipper finally gave out. And I had poked a few holes in the fabric fro. Tree skiing. I bought the 1990 mountain jacket as a replacement. I have purchased many other coats from The North Face and other companies. None have stayed with me as long as my original mountain jacket. No matter what i buy I always come back to my mountain jacket. I love the jacket it is perfect for me. This is not an exact replica. It is missing the powder skirt and a few other minor differances. The differances are not enough to change the fit and feel as well as over all look of the jacket. I hope the new one lasts as long as my old one. K would highly recommend this jacket to anyone.

This is my 4th colorway of the 1990 gtx. Not only is this jacket stylish, it is also highly functional. From the high quality Velcro cuffs to the ladder locks on the hood, everything about this jacket rocks. Oh, and the macro salt colorway is hard. I was really pleased the pink was lighter than the photos let on. North face peeps did it again.

This was a great jacket when used with a north face fleece under garment. -55F wind chills and -28F real temps did not pierce this jacket when walking outside. Great jacket!!!!!

i wanted to clear up some wrong information about this new 1990 that was just released. The specifications listed here are not correct. The conception that this is a lighter weight or cheaper version is also not correct. I placed this new 1990 - a Medium Philox Purple on a scale and i got 1000g exactly. I then took the "older" model released just over a year ago a Medium Blue Wing Teal and got 1020g. This is just at a 2% differential, which is clearly within minimal manufacturing tolerances. So just to clariify, this new 1990 seems to be the same as last years model. To me the old and new mediums also fit the same, so I cannot confirm that sizing is all the different either.

Best jacket The North Face ever made!!!!! Needs to always be available. I need all the colors especially Persian orange and tourqise. Please remake the Trans Antarctic pullover next with the Gore Tex. Thanks

I have owned the original MLJ since the 1990s, my favorite backpacking, canoeing camping outdoor going out jacket. But it's been keeping for some time. And I didn't like the newer replacement. So I kept the old one, recently found out there is a 1990 MLJ reboot! So I got one! It feels like home, out in single digit weather and warm and it stops the wind. Only draw back is finding a plain fleece with pit zippers .... That is compatible. Otherwise , this is the best jacket ever made! I love it!

I love this jacket. I bought the red one first, and I love how it looks with the black accents. For me, North Face jackets run a little big, so I bought the XS for a nice fit. However, it is still a little baggy, but not too bad. I then bought the Aztec Blue in XXS, but it's way too tight. It's a shame because the color is beautiful. Other than that it's a great jacket, and I would buy a few other colors if they weren't all sold out :(

Got this to replace my original one from ~30 years ago. Same fit and feel. The only downside was that I wish I could have matched the original color and that the 2nd zipper for the insert matched my equally old inner layer.

I love this jacket!! Its mens sizing so the hips are a little narrow for a curvy women like myself. The arm length is also a little longer on women. This is a great jacket though! Its super durable and completely waterproof! Unlike the dryvent which has a waterproof lining in the inside which I have had problems with. The goretex lasts a long time and is truly waterproof. I love the pockets! Its such a versatile jacket! It's a little heavier than the summit series but I think its a little warmer and the pocket space is worth the little extra weight. My only downside is the sizing isn't really a women's fit so curvy women will have some fit issues.

I have a 1990s original Mountain Jack and loved it, so when it started to wear out finally, i was happy to see this vintage re-issue. You can't tell them apart from the outside. But the new one lacks a powder skirt - why?? Oh well. If you like your old one and it is on its last legs, you won't be disappointed. Also, while I opt for a medium in the newer-issue TNF jackets, this one fits me just right in a size small (I'm 5'8" 165 lbs).
