I have two pairs of the earlier version of the Hoka Gaviota style that fit my feet perfectly with great arch support. However, the Gaviota 2 is wider in the heel which causes my heels to slip uncomfortably (especially the right foot).) Really sorry that Hoka changed the fit of this shoe. I chose them because I need the over-pronation protection and arch support that the other styles of Hoka shoes don't have. Really like the colors, but sad about the fit.
I'd also recommend:
Asics, Brooks, New Balance...mainly because they come in narrow widths

I love the shoe. I'm a nurse. I usually have to change them out in 4 months but I guess that's expected. My only complaint is the color selection. The black and teal was the Only color you could wear with anything. What happened to it????

Great cushion. If you severely overpronate, this is a terrific shoe. I thought I did, but turns out I don't, so I had to return for a neutral shoes. These are very sturdy. Little more depth in the toe box would be perfect. But lots to like about this shoe if it's right for your foot.

I mistakenly ordered this shoe in a wide, so it was too big. But I reordered the medium width and they fit great. They can accommodate my custom Orthodics and are light and very comfortable.

Great fit. My forefoot is an inch wider than my heel and they fit perfectly. I do wish they were a bit more stiff in the inner heel area. I pronate tremendously and they do not provide excellent support. Just good. I do wear orthotics for the issue and they fir in the shoe nicely.

I so wanted to keep these, but had to return. It was my bunion that made for a too-tight fit.
Other than that, the cushion and stability felt great.

I bought this shoe after running in the Bondi 6 for awhile and wanting something more stable due to my tendency to roll my right foot outward while I run due to big toe joint damage. The show was great and my right foot felt great after a 4 mile run but my left foot missed the extra cushioning that the Bondi 6 provides. I have really high arches and this shoe has pretty good arch support. I do prefer the Bondi 6 to these due to the better cushioning in them. I wish Hoka would come up with a stability shoe that has plush cushioning.

Super huge compared to most athletic brands. Bought a full size smaller than what I wear in Nike, Adidas, New Balance and Saucony.

I was hoping these were better than the arahi as the arahi had not enough support or cushion and were so ugly. But these are too tight around the top of my foot and a little too narrow. I need to keep them for work though. The Bondi 6 I have are too worn out. These Gaviota would be perfect if they had more cushion and weren't so tight over the top and not narrow. They look better than the arahi but they still dont keep my heels from killing me, I have had what I'm told is plantar fasciitis for 13 years now and nothing seems to help it. I wish I could find the cure. These allow me more time standing before excruciating pain than the Bondi did though. I cannot use my orthotic inserts with these either as they are too tight. I think the sizing should be universal for all your shoes, a 10.5 in bondi and arahi fit me fine. I had to order a mens 9 of this because you dont carry black in women and I need black for work, wonder if this was a women's size if it would of fit me better.

I've been wearing them around the house and trying to decide if they are 1/2 size too small.

Not the most stylish shoe, living in a college town - but, the fit and comfort is far better than being the stylish one at the gym. Great for my heal pain and good arch support. Fairly good pronation support.

I got blisters and experienced tingling/ numbing from the regular width but enjoyed the extra cushion, so I exchanged for a wide. It made all the difference! I’ve never bought a wide in any shoe, but I do like room for my toes to move in running shoes—the originals felt very tight and short. Broke in the wides with a ten miler with no blisters. If the normal don’t work for you, try wide!

I am a daily walker (2-4 miles) with light running 2-3 times per week.
Shoe is very supportive and stable feeling.
I do suggest following the sizing chart recommendations regarding sizes. I normally wear Brooks and per the sizing chart, needed to go down half a size in Hoka which ended up being a perfect fit. They do look very wide when looking down at them, but that is worth it for the extra stability.

Tried my normal size and the inseam at the base of the toes was too restricting. Called for advice and returned for the next half size up. Unfortunately in this case, they are true to size, so the slightly larger size was mostly just that. There was a fraction more space in the area I needed it, but ultimately they did not fit. I will likely continue to look for one that does as I am anxious to try this brand out.

This is my first Hoka shoe. I previously wore Brooks Addiction but they have changed and no longer fit my foot so I heard about Hoka and decided to try them. They are a good shoe, not quite as comfortable as I had hoped. The spread of the sold which flares out takes some getting used to. The support is good, just what I needed. They are a bit high priced in comparison with the previous brand I wore. I would still buy them again, as they provided good support.

A good and generally comfortable shoe with great support. A little bit narrow in the toe box. Style is not very attractive, though, and looks almost like old-fashioned nurses whites in the white/drizzle color. Going with Hoka's Cliftons instead.

As a heavier weight runner I finally found a shoe in the original Gaviota that solved my feet and knee issues. When they finally had to be retired I went with the Gaviota 2 hoping they would provide the same comfort and protection. While the shoes are very comfortable, they do not provide the same heel strike cushioning of the previous model. Now the search for a new shoe begins.

This was my second attempt at replacing my Mach 1s and I failed to notice that the eyelets won’t allow for speed laces. Love the weight of Hokas but regular laces make me crazy - they are too long and when I tie the almost hit the ground and they slap my ankles when I run. Going back. Trying a third style.
