Really top notch wind shell, fits more or less like my goretex alpha, except with a smaller hood. Not waterproof, but it repels rain (even slightly heavier showers) well enough to give you time to find shelter. The jacket breathes really well, is perfectly cut for comfortable motion, and looks really nice. It's really light and packs down to a very small packet. A definite addition to my ultralight hiking kit. This is like a perfect distillation of arcteryx design into one superb piece. if you need a rain-'proof' jacket get something else, if you want a weather resistant Swiss-army jacket, this is the one!

I bought this jacket thinking I would use it mostly for backpacking. In reality, I haven't yet used it for that. I used it in two ways so far: I needed a good windbreaker for those late winter/ early spring road rides, and this fit the bill. Once I warm up, this fits in the jersey easily once its stuffed into its pocket (I'm working on doing that while riding). I also started trail running/ orienteering seriously and this helped tremendously on cold and windy days. I read some reviews that this jacket isn't quite as windproof as others, but it is more breathable. As someone who sweats quite easily and profusely, I can say I am very happy with the performance of this jacket- something I don't often say. It's windproof enough to keep the chills out and when running you don't feel the sweat (or the wind evaporating the sweat off of your body). One drawback, although it is to be expected, is that it is a bit fragile on bushwhacks. On-trail and on-road no problem whatsoever, but once you're in the thicket I got one or two prickers through the jacket. Not noticeable, but when you pay this much for a jacket you do get a bit disappointed. The going does have to get very rough, basically walking through hedges, before I would worry about it holding up though. It definitely did better than others would I suspect. All-in-all this jacket is a perfect combination of breathability and windproofness. Durable and perfect to use in all but the most extreme conditions- I look forward to using it in other disciplines in the near future.

I bought this jacket in anticipation to a trip to Disney World, and also this upcoming summer. The jacket is light, comfortable, and the fit is just as other Arc'teryx products - the sleeves are a bit long. But all you gotta do is adjust the velcro cuffs and they'll be fine. This jacket packs into its own chest pocket, which is a feature that I really wanted when I was looking for a jacket. In the summer, when I go to work in the early morning there's usually a bit of chill in the air that a short sleeve shirt isn't enough to keep my warm. But in the afternoon when I go home it's usually quite hot and the last thing I want is to drag a jacket around with me. The ability to stuff the whole thing in its pocket will be great as I can just shove the whole package in my backpack and not think about it again.

This is my favorite piece for trail running in the alpine and multi-pitch climbing. It's extremely lightweight and wind resistant. Due to the fact that it can be packed down into it's own chest pocket and has an attachment point, it is small enough to take along in your running hydration pack or clipped to the back of your harness. It's a great summer windshell and is water resistant so can hold it's own in a light rain shower. However this is not a waterproof jacket so will not stand up in a downpour. I ALMOST returned this jacket actually. I ordered this on arcteryx.com after the guys from the Twitter (@arcteryx) account suggested that this jacket is what I was looking for to suit my needs. When I got it in the mail, I was disappointed because it felt so flimsy compared to my Goretex Beta AR jacket. But, I decided to wear it anyway and I'm glad I did. I ended up taking this jacket everywhere. Originally I wanted a jacket to wear on my honeymoon when hiking in Hawaii (where it can get really windy at the top of some of the mountains but it's way too warm to wear any jacket down by the beaches). So I wanted something lightweight, packable, water resistant, and thin. Now this jacket has replaced my umbrella and also functions as wind shell. I carry it with me whether I'm going to a formal meeting (in my attache case) or whether I'm going for a walk in downtown Toronto, or whether I'm going for a hike. I use my Beta AR if I have to go out to work in a heavy rainstorm but for day-to-day use where the weather could be unpredictable, this has been my summer jacket of choice and I don't leave home without it now.

This is the most versatile jacket I have ever owned. This jacket has been a second skin most of the spring, summer and fall. I have used it for backcountry skiing, trail running, mountain biking, and for my daily bike commute to work. I should qualify that I live in Park City, UT so not the most inclimate weather patterns, but I have had this jacket out in enough varied weather to comment on it's ability to hold up to wind and rain. It is correctly called wind and water resistant, but this jacket blocks wind very well. It also repels water, and will keep you dry in light drizzle, but won't protect you in an all out rain storm. This jacket is very tough. I have crashed through trees, and slid over rocks, and so far not a single slice in the fabric (which would be reasonable given the abuse it has seen). Wrap-up: lightweight, VERY packable weather protection that can be an everyday go-to jacket.

I used it for the first time, last week, for a 5 days hiking in Chamonix valley. The weather was not so good, going from 10C to 20/25C, moslty cloudy, ligth to heavy rain and a little sunshine. I use Squamish with a first ligth layer and with ATOM LT when needed. And the Squamish worked perfectly. The weather was changing all the time. With both first layer and Squamish, no need to remove the Squamish when I was too warm, I just needed to open it. While other hikers had to remove their jacket and put it in their backpack. Same thing when the weather became colder, i.e. I just needed to close the jacket. Very breathable, very usefull ! With a ligth rain, the DRW finish worked very well. And the jacket drying very quickly. With a heavy rain, something stronger was needed (rain cape for me as I lend my Goretex to my girlfriend :-)). And this morning, going back to the office by byke, I put the Squamish with a first layer. And it was just perfect !

I ordered a Houdini and it was small and light but I was unhappy with the cut, the noise of the fabric and the color wasn't great...so I swallowed hard and ordered a Squamish Hoody - and the Squamish is far superior to the Houdini IMO. Cut and fit are very important to me and the underarm gussets and cut make it far more comfortable. It's quality seems a step above, and the zipper and hood are both better too.

Bought this for my girlfriend in Mango Tango and she really likes it. She keeps it in the back of her car for her after school (she's a teacher) bike rides. I also got her three different weights of base layers to wear under it so that she can properly tailor her layering to the weather conditions - two Phase (one thinnish long-sleeve zip-neck, and one very light tee) and a Rho AR zip-neck for colder conditions. She wears the Squamish Hoody all the time, and she likes the hoody's brim, and the easily adjustable sleeves (she is very lanky). Based on this, I would recommend it to others.

This jacket is awesome, especially on days when you're not really sure what the weather is going to throw at you. It is lightweight and totally wind resistant. It is a minimalistic jacket with only one small chest pocket but it holds an iPhone and keys perfectly. My favourite feature though is the fact that the whole jacket shoves into the tiny chest pocket and becomes the size of a little football! It is the perfect carry along as there is a loop so you can clip the jacket onto your belt loop, water bottle, etc while hiking. A perfect piece for summer hiking!

I almost always bring this piece with me climbing and it never fails to perform. The material is extremely comfortable and breathable, making it a perfect jacket to protect from the sun or stay dry in a drizzle. The DWR treatment on the face fabric is amazing at shedding water and the added bonus of the jacket packing up into the chest pock is a sweet (especially for the avid climber). The fit is great (doesn't limit mobility at all), so far it's been extremely durable, and finally it just looks so good!

Whenever I describe the Squamish to friends for the first time I refer to it as a "high tech garbage bag" as it reminds me of making emergency panchos back in the day. Originally I bough it just to use as a wind shell when sailing in the summer but it has since become a staple in my bike pack and trail running bag for either a compressible outer layer when stopped, when it is colder/rainier than expected or quite often once I'm done and heading for a post activity coffee/beer. Having loaned it to friends on occasion they are always surprised how warm it is for being so minimal. I wouldn't call it a rain jacket but again it does a surprisingly good job, a caveat is that it doesn't breath as well as other outer-layer options but that's the trade-off for its other benefits.

I had the previous version of this jacket, but when I saw the newly updated version in orange I had to order it. Sometimes updates leave me disappointed, but in this case Arcteryx took a decent ultralight jacket and made it perfect. I love the new fabric. It drapes much nicer, has a more substantial feel without being heavier, and moving the single pocket to the chest instead of the waist was a great change. I appreciate the velcro tabs on the sleeves, and the fit and length of the jacket is excellent. It looks good over just a light baselayer, yet has room enough for me to layer under it. This will be my go-to jacket for day hikes, backpacking and cycling. Since it's so portable, it will probably go with me almost everywhere else too. I would give this 10 stars if I could!

I mainly used it for running & hiking but it does have great strech for climbing. The jacket is a great piece to take out for wind protection on warmer mountain days, and with the right layering you could also take it for other days, e.g. on a dry but cooler day with a warmer base layer, gloves, hat... It is indeed lightweight and when it was stuffed in it's stow pocket, I could carry it clipped on to my water bottle, belt loop, or pack. I got the color Tiger Lily, which is a nice orange, and as I am often solo liked the bright color. A number of people commented on how much they liked this one when I was out with it. The adjustable hem drawcord is good to cynch in the jacket and stop the draft. The cuffs are easy to adjust (even when your fingers are frozen, or you can easily grab them with your teeth), although the hard cuffs scatched my skin each time I wiped my face with my sleeves, but maybe I am just a softie. I have to admit that I did not find the chest stow pocket, only the one side stow pocket, but that was enough for me. The only real drawback is that it was hard to cynch the hood in without covering my eyes partially, but I have a small head and I assume the hood needs be a certain size to fit a helmet.

Bought this jacket recently. Fully up to the expectations. It is super light, but holds the wind amazingly well. The product quality is outstanding. Looks great. Color Heron is very stylish. Indeed packs in its own pocket. Have not tested it in rain, but I do not expect much on that front. I'm 5'9'' 156lbs and wear medium, which fits well.

I was skeptical about those who said this thing was water resistant. Arc' doesn't really advertise it as such, but when I got mine I took it and brought it in the shower with me, and have also held it under a sink faucet for a couple minutes, no water got through on the sleeve. Somehow this thing repels water very well. Its not seam sealed so in heavy rain for a while, it will probably wet through. But its very impressive for a garment so light that you can easily have on you at all times. I keep it in my climbing pack or with me when there is a chance of rain. Its light and breathable, bare bones emergency protection. Wind protection is good, and it fits a little large so you can layer it. Great piece. Sometimes I wish it had more than one pocket, but then again I'm glad it's so light and more pockets would weigh it down.

I just ordered my third squamish hoody because I wear the other 2 so often. I actually wear the black version to work over a white dress shirt. I always have at least one with me. Much tougher than they look and repels light rain. I always keep a squamish hoody and an alpha sl in the bottom of my pack.

You can certainly find cheaper lightweight rainshells. But they won't touch what this can do. I've purchased two now and always have one with me at the bottom of my hiking backback or work bag. It rolls up and fits into its own breast pocket and can be squeezed down to nothing. Has great adjustments, is abrasion resistent, looks great, feels great, works with climbing gear, and stays waterproof even in a long downpour. The only strange thing about it is that it's a little big, especially for Arc'teryx normally spot-on sizing, but that's probably so it can easily go over everything else you're wearing.

This is now featured on my Clothing Materials Table (google it with my last name Conover) as one of my most favorite clothing items. I wear it as a shell in both summer and winter, even for mountaini rescue operations. On a hike in Shenandoah National Park with my family last fall, it was rain at just below freezing all day. My wife and daughter wore Gore-Tex, and I wore my Squamish. At the end of the day I was drier than they were. I use it and the Arcteryx tactical pants of the same Gossamera as my rainshell in all but the worst rain, despite the lack of seam-sealing. (I may seam-seal mine.) My only request would be a chest pocket on the right as well - more room for hat and gloves and facemask.

I recently bought this jacket for an upcoming Goruck challenge, and had no plans for using it until then. However, the day of our Tough Mudder in Austin, TX the temperature dropped to 45 degrees with 13mph sustained winds. The colder temperature wasn't much of a problem, especially considering we were prepared to be wet and covered in mud the entire time, but the wind would make everyone miserable. Well everyone but me. The Squamish hoodie performed miraculously during the 3+ hour event. Unlike most people covered in foil to keep their body heat in, I was unaffected by the wind. I fully expected to tear the thin jacket or at least cause some fraying on the sleeves from all the crawling and 26 obstacles along the way. After making it through barbed wire, crawling through mud AND ROCKS, and electroshock therapy the jacket shows absolutely no signs of wear and tear, and was the easiest piece of clothing to clean afterwards. The high quality YKK zippers also continued to work even when covered in mud, which was extremely important since I had no dexterity left in my hands. Needless to say, if this jacket could survive the Tough Mudder without any signs of ill effect, it is more than likely up to anything you could throw at it and I definitely recommend it.
