I'm not a mountain climber, skier, or a outdoor fantastic. I'm just your average joe that uses this jacket for running around back and forth from work, play and everyday errands. I'm using this jacket for my everyday suburban/urban life needs. I also have the Arc'teryx Beta AR jacket that I bought about 8 months ago.
The Beta SL Jacket feels much lighter, doesn't have that "cardboard" feel when I'm walking around and is much much quieter when wearing. I love the Beta AR for being a much more durable jacket but I reserve that one for end of fall to winter only as I feel it's just too much for the spring thru fall weather.
I love and enjoy everything about the Beta SL Jacket. You barely feel it on. Great color availability and very very packable. Love the under arm zippers for cooling and big outside chest pockets.
If you desire a practice and great looking, fitting and feeling rain coat jacket that's more on the thinner and lighter feel, definitely highly recommend the SL line.

It's the seams that first catch my attention. Arc'teryx's seemingly seamless seams are incomparable. They look like two pieces of fabric bonded with only a change in texture to mark the line. Whether they're sewn or laminated, the Beta SL's construction looks and feels like it can withstand anything. I've summited Rainier with it and I've stood at bus stops in downtown Seattle during deluges when the bus comes 40 minutes late, and I've always been dry wearing my Beta SL. It's the perfect and essential jacket for anyone who spends any time in the forest or the city if there's a chance it could rain or be windy and if it could be both (like it can in Seattle or on Rainier), then it's a wardrobe requirement. Also, I'm on my second Beta SL because this jacket holds its value and you can sell or gift yours to someone else no matter how many seasons you wear this jacket, and share the value that only Arc'teryx can offer.

This updated version is spot on. Love the fit, no extra fabric but I still have room for layering a proton lt or puffy. I got the L and I'm 173cm and 190lbs well built for reference. Paclight plus works on this and I don't feel clamy. Obviously keeps me dry and keeps the wind out. I use for hiking and it is my shell for Spring to Fall. Might look elsewhere if looking for a winter shell though as this is not substantial enough, but I would not hesitate to use in a pinch

My Gore-Tex, Beta SL Jacket is extremely lightweight, packable, and mostly waterproof that I always take with me trekking and rock climbing in case of an emergency. I carry my Beta SL pants and Beta SL jacket in the bottom of my pack just in case the weather turns (better safe than sorry as I've gotten caught a couple times out climbing when it started to rain). I really like trim-fit, pit-zips, and the Velcro wrist closures are great. That said, this jacket is not as rugged and durable as my Alpha SV Jacket, nor was it meant to be, and so am careful when and where I wear I take it i.e. below the tree line in what I think will be favorable weather.

My last defense of the elements. Solid jacket. I have not experienced any of the leaks other reviewers have. I've worn in heavy snow and monsoon rains.

I have owned various Gore-Tex jackets over the years and this one is definitely my favourite. I swapped my trusty zeta lt for this jacket and I'm so glad I did. I have not had any issues with it and have remain dry on every occasion.

Although Arcteryx describes this as a shell for emergency use, I would have to disagree. The jacket is more durable and waterproof than I thought it will be. Although my main shell is the Alpha SV for everything, I find this jacket's features robust. I love the new design with more durable fabric in the shoulders because carrying a tripod with a heavy telephoto lens in my shoulder, in addition to the heavy pack when changing locations is a great durability test for any shell in my book.
So far the Beta SL hybrid exceeded expectations. I got the Tui color so I can use it also for traveling and in the city. As far as the fit, I am 5,10" and 195p with wide shoulders and back and the L fits perfectly with room to layer a SL puffy or a medium weight fleece. I usually layer a Fortrez or an Atom LT and works well.

This jacket is very light and comfortable. It is easily packable when you are hiking in the noon. It keeps me dry through rain. I would like to say it can be used for hiking, sailing, kayaking, and so may outdoor activities. I'd rather it comes with a bag to pack it.

I wear it on my daily biking/commuting trip to work, during our hikes wherever we go, even when doing the daily shopping. Rain, wind, suumer, winter, it never lets me down, and you are not aware you are wearing a jacket.

This jacket serves its purpose beautifully. Great to throw over a Gamma LT or any other lightweight layer!

This is hands down the best waterproof jacket I've worn when out in the weather. I stay completely dry through heavy rain and the hood works great also. The collar doesn't get in the way and it's just a great looking piece! Very easily packable when in the mountains and fits great over my Cerium LT jacket. I'm normally a medium and ordered a medium as it runs a little larger than normal in order to accommodate mid layers. If you're only wearing it in the summer over a short sleeve then you may want to order a size down.

I got the jacket in the mail the other day, and it was raining! Sweet! Time to take the dog for a walk! I get myself all dressed up, get the ol' doggo ready and venture out into the storm...and it stopped raining. It hasn't rained since I got it. So, ya. Though I haven't got to try it out in the rain yet, it is awesome. And looks good, too. I decided to pick this up after I got the Atom LT Hoodie, and have been walking my dog daily in with the pair, and I have been super comfortable.
The sleeves are a tad long, but, it doesn't hinder anything as they have a velcro closure to tighten them up.

Love this jacket! I have had the jacket for a few months now and have used it hiking in rain in Gros Morne, Newfoundland, walked the streets of Halifax in the rain, camped in the Northern Ontario summer with heat and rain - all experiences were comfortable and made so by this jacket.
I will be upgrading my winter jacket to the Gore Tex Pro but other than that this jacket works in all climates.

This was my (and my wife's) go-to outer layer for a system we used mountain climbing in Iceland this spring. Weather was all over the place. Hot and sunny, cold and raining, snowing and blowing sideways. This jacket performed as expected the entire time with a modern layering system. We even threw a Cerium SL Hoody under it on summits for extra warmth and it was PERFECT.
