I have 3 jackets from Arcteryx and all of them are fantastic.
My other two are Beta AR and Scorpion (Both are Gore-tex Pro jackets). This is my only hybrid Gore-Tex paclight jacket.
Even those this jacket is the least expensive of the 3, I use this jacket about 90% of the time. The main reason is that my 2 Gore-tex Pro jackets are an overkill for most purposes. Beta AR is perfect for long hikes or inclement (very windy, cold, or rainy) weather. But it is also thicker and makes a lot of plasticy noise. I use my Scorpion jacket almost exclusively for skiing and snowboarding (which is what it is designed to do).
Truth is, I don't normally go outside when the weather is REALLY windy, rainy, or cold. Hence, I find myself rarely needing my Beta AR (which is a fantastic jacket).
But I do find myself, however, needing a lightweight windproof and rainproof jacket under normal conditions especially for travels.
This jacket is PERFECT if you need a jacket in a 50-70 F degree rainy weather. It also suffices if you layer and wear something warm underneath for 30-50 F weather.
For anything colder and windier (like a blizzard), you may need something like Beta AR (with Gore-Tex).
Is this jacket breathable as Gore-tex Pro? Probably not, but you won't care unless you are sweating like there is no tomorrow. This jacket is more than fine for rigorous hiking but maybe not so fine for climbing Mt Everest. You get the point.
Overall, I find this jacket to fit my everyday needs perfectly and I do find my two Gore-Tex jackets to be an overkill for most weather conditions.

This is a fantastic shell for the individual looking for a piece to keep them dry year around, is packable, light weight, and stylish. Through the winter and spring, I've worn this shell anytime there's been any amount of precipitation coming out of the sky and it's kept me dry every time, every day, all day.
I've walked around in the spring rain around town in this, and been perfectly happy and dry. I've taken it on hikes in the snow, and it breathes very well. Eventually, if you're working super hard, you will sweat, and you will feel sticky on the inside of the jacket. That's not the jacket, that's just what happens when you are wearing too many layers and are working hard.
I was out attending a high school track meet here in Colorado earlier this year, and it was dumping snow, no wind, and only about 30-32deg, so it was a wet snow, and the meet wasn't going to get cancelled. I stayed dry and happy. Multiple people came up to me asking about this jacket, the brand, and if I would recommend it. The answer is always yes.
I've read in other reviews here that the jacket would wet out and make the individual wet. This is not true at all in my experience. If you're active, you will sweat. How do you expect Gortex, a waterproof material against your skin, to act with moisture? Of course you're going to feel wet, but it's your own moisture, not the rain or snow. The C-knit backing in this jacket in the armpits and upper back and shoulders will help alleviate this and not make the inside of the jacket feel as "sticky" and wet.
Other people think that if the face fabric looks as though it's absorbing water and that the shell isn't working. That's just the face fabric and DWR getting wet out! The Gortex membrane, which is what keeps you dry, is underneath the face fabric. I promise, if your jacket face fabric wets out, you're still staying dry. If the face fabric is regularly wetting out, try washing your shell with tech wash, I use Nik-wax, and tossing it in the dryer on medium for 20-30mins. Good as new.
This jacket is almost always with me, and I'm planning on taking it to summit more Colorado 14ers this summer as I'm trying to check them all off. Don't have any pictures yet of me in the pouring rain on a mountain to show, but when I do, I'll be dry.
This is not a ski shell, this is not a mountaineering shell. Could you use it as that? Yes, but that's not what it's "specifically" designed for. If you want something for those activities, get the Alpha SV (incredible shell, I use it to ice climb and for mountaineering) or the Sabre jacket. The Beta SL Hybrid is your all around, stay dry jacket, which will add a little bit of insulation, take the edge off if it's chilly, and keep you looking stylish at the same time. Not as light as the Zeta SL, not as durable as the Beta AR, but it gets the job done.

I bought this product last spring.
That means I had a chance to try this product in spring, summer, fall and winter.
I went hiking and tracking almost every weekend.
Each time I moved for at least 3 hours, up to 8 hours.
Spring was warm with temperatures ranging from 15 C(59 F) to 25 C(77 F),
summer with temperatures ranging from 29 C(85F) to 40 C(104F), and sometimes with very humid three weeks of rainy season, and a powerful typhoon with a maximum wind speed of over 30m/s(98ft/s) with heavy rain.
In autumn, it was repeated with dry weather at around 20 C(68F) and rainy days at around 15 C(59F).
In the early winter, the wind blows almost 5 meters per second between 0 C(32F) and 5 C(41F), and sometimes some snow falls. After a month, temperatures will drop below -10 C(14F) and more snow will fall.
This product was perfect for all the weather I just mentioned.
Of course I haven't yet tested for a strong cold below -10C(14F), but I expect to be able to withstand it.
I am 180cm(5'11"), 89kg(196lbs) and has 44" chest, 33" waist athletic body shape.
This product shows the perfect fit for my body.
Of course, there is little room for layering, but it is still stylish enough when wearing only a thin base layer(like UA compression shirts).
I think light weight is the best advantage of this product.
But not being able to pack in own pocket is a disadvantage.
Of course, you can pack it on the hood but not make it small enough.
This product also has perfect waterproof and windproof capabilities. it perfectly protected me against the strong winds and heavy rains that the typhoon brought.
Two types of Goretex Membrane provides excellent Breathability. and pit zip is more conducive to Breathability.
There are not only advantages.
The disadvantage of this product is that it does not have an waterproof internal pocket.
Of course arcteryx would have had to give up its internal pockets for the weight.
But it would have been a little better than now if you had added one of the things...like pack in own pocket or internal pocket.
Nevertheless, I highly recommend this product.
If I had damaged my current product and someone asked me which product I would buy with your new hard shell, I would answer Arcteryx Beta SL Hybrid without any consideration.
The reason is that there is no product with this level of water and ventilation at this weight. (I have other lightweight hard shells from several brands include patagonia stretch rainshadow... they are all sucks...)
However, you must wear a suitable base layer if you want to feel perfect Breathability(like phase SL LL or UA compression shirts LL).

Used this for the first time on my trip to England recently where rain is unpredictable.
Unbelievably effective repelling water. Once indoors, a quick shake sheets off all the water!

This is my second Arc'teryx hardshell and I have got another four jackets from Arc'teryx. I do many researches on what I buy and I'm yet really satisfied about my Arc'teryx purchases.
I choose Arc'teryx because its products make me worry less about what I wear and allow me to focus more on the things that I do.
This jacket has arguably the best quality and design, though I'm not sure how much of the price reflects the logo.
I sincerely hope that you are working on better products still and keep focused.

I don't do any crazy outdoor activities but I do commute to school everyday and this jacket has been amazing. I bought this jacket about 1 year ago and it's been holding up excellent. No flaws at all and I wear it quite often. It's fits amazing and looks great when on top of hoodies, also looks good on top of a t shirt. I originally bought this jacket in black and liked it so much I bought it in red as well. It's held up great in the rain and snow and I've never had an issue. The only issue is the water rolling off the jacket. For the first couple months water dropplets would roll right off the jacket instantly but now the jacket stays kind of wet. However water has not soaked through. Overall I think it's an amazing jacket and very stylish.

The Emerald Isle of Kodiak was my testing ground for this gem. I've always shared with people, who might not be the outdoor type, that with quality gear, you pay for what you get. This was no exception. On a trip that our guides called the rainiest of the season (and that is very wet for Kodiak Island) the coat kept be bone dry while trekking through head high grasslands and hunkering down in tree jams along a river, while viewing Kodiak bears from a distance. About 8 hours in a consistent rain, including hiking and I stayed dry. Which mean it breathed well and kept the elements out!

I bought the Beta SL Hybrid for cycling & it was the pit zips that sold the jacket. Cycling in the rain means 2 things: getting wet, getting sweaty. Now if I wear this jacket I have the choice to cycle slowly getting minimally wet & not too sweaty or riding fast with the pit zips open & getting less drenched than no jacket at all. The hood fits over the bike helmet to provide a more comfortable ride. I also use the jacket as cloud burst protection during Spring skiing & year round hiking & walking. Don't expect the Gore-Tex to perform like Gore-Tex Pro. I have a Rush jacket for skiing & snowboarding: it's heavier, breathes better, has more pockets, has a better zipper & is a more comfortable jacket for skiing.
To pack the Beta SL I fold the arms in, roll it from the bottom hem, tuck the roll into the hood, put it in an air-tight plastic bag, suck the air out, & tie it off. It packs pretty small with this technique. I'm 5'10", 165 lbs fitting medium & the arms are generous at my side while fitting perfect with arms extended.

I'm not a mountain climber, skier, or a outdoor fantastic. I'm just your average joe that uses this jacket for running around back and forth from work, play and everyday errands. I'm using this jacket for my everyday suburban/urban life needs. I also have the Arc'teryx Beta AR jacket that I bought about 8 months ago.
The Beta SL Jacket feels much lighter, doesn't have that "cardboard" feel when I'm walking around and is much much quieter when wearing. I love the Beta AR for being a much more durable jacket but I reserve that one for end of fall to winter only as I feel it's just too much for the spring thru fall weather.
I love and enjoy everything about the Beta SL Jacket. You barely feel it on. Great color availability and very very packable. Love the under arm zippers for cooling and big outside chest pockets.
If you desire a practice and great looking, fitting and feeling rain coat jacket that's more on the thinner and lighter feel, definitely highly recommend the SL line.

I fell in love with this brand five years ago. As I needed more gear I've started buying more. I can't say enough about the brand. I am an attention to detail person. I can't say enough about the attention Arc'teryx puts into their gear. Everything is thought out. I sweet a lot so the pit zips are a must. I love it! I'm currently looking to add more gear soon! I will admit, i'm addicted!

While hiking the Inca trail in October, it was a forgone conclusion that we would get some rain being that Machu Picchu gets some 60-90 inches of rain between Oct/Nov and February. This jacket kept me bone dry during a downpour in Peru. Super stoked to have this in my pack and you barely notice that it is there being that it is so light as well.
Looking forward to continuing to put this through the ringer this upcoming snow season as a light weight alternative on warm days when snowboarding
