For regular Altra wearers, I believe they have changed their last for this Lone Peak 4 so I had to size back down to my regular size, lol. If you are used to sizing up then I'd order both sizes and see which fits best. This is my 4th pair of low cut Lone Peaks, thru various iterations. The Zero Drop is great but if you are looking for a minimalist trail shoe this probably has more structure than you want. It's perfect for me. I'm old and will use them for walking and non-aggressive hiking but no running. As with my previous Lone Peaks, I will also use them for touring in Europe, both city and country-side. I was particularly interested in getting waterproof ones for a trip next spring. The tongue is stitched to the sides so not much give across the top. If you have a high arch and are used to using an alternative lacing method to give you more space these may not work for you. They are wide and foot-shaped, which is why I buy them. I wore them out of the box this morning for a nearly 6-mile walk along a paved trail. I wore them with my Correct Toes toe spacers and Costco brand wool socks. The shoes were perfectly comfortable with nice cushioning for this walk. No break-in needed IF you are already comfortable in a Zero Drop platform. If you are transitioning to Zero Drop you should follow instructions to ease in to this kind of shoe. I was actually hoping for rain to test the waterproof-iness of them but sadly only had blue sky! I have the Lone Peak hiking boots and they are very waterproof but this fabric is "eVent" as opposed to the Neoshell of the others so will have to wait til later for a trial on this. To me the only CON is the color. I got the gray which was better than the purple. I do wish Altra would make a plain black in each style, but I'm not truly their target audience.

I wear an 8 in street shoes but normally wear an 8.5 in a running shoe. These shoes are sufficiently roomy that I am very comfortable in an 8. Two box is nice and roomy. More importantly, the last is wide enough under my forefoot that my bunions don't hang off the sides of the shoes. I have run in these (and the regular Altra Lone Peak 4) several times. The Lone Peak 4 and Lone Peak 4 RSM are my absolute FAVORITE running shoes. (Kudos, Altra!!! This is a great update from the Lone Peak 3.5!)

My old knees are very sensitive to slight differences in the shoe's profile and zero drop shoes turn out not good for me. But I keep this pair for rain and snow with heel inserts to create a 1/4 drop. The reasons I like them: 1. They feel very secure on snow and icy and 2. they are wide (a bit too wide for me) to allow room for my toes to wiggle around.

This shoe fit well but unfortunately caused a flareup of my plantar fasciitis. Unfortunately there just is not enough forefoot support and allows too much heel strike for my anatomy. Over pronators, beware, this may not be the best shoe for your foot.

I absolutely love these shoes and am sold on the zero drop insole. I run a combination of trails and service roads in all seasons anywhere from 3-6 miles. This is my first pair of Altra running shoes and I had very little break in time in terms of getting used to the zero drop. My feet have stayed warm and dry so far and since I am currently running in sub-freezing weather I have not had any problems with sweating. I wear them with smartwool mid-crew height running socks and they've been great even in 18 degree weather. Hopefully they will hold up well and make them worth the cost. I am an 8.5 in regular shoes and the 9 was perfect for me with the necessary additional room in the toe required for running.

I have to give them a poor review because the only reason I ordered them is the Waterproof claim. BUT after wearing them 3 times, they have developed tears/holes in the body of the shoes wear they crease. I assume that next time I go out in wet conditions, the water will come right through. But they mostly fit great! I have an unforgiving wide foot and the big toe box on these are nice. The zero drop thing is making my shins hurt, I'm not sure if I will get used to them or not.

First, I need to thank Zappos for allowing me to order and return 7 pairs of shoes over the past two months as I searched for the perfect shoes for an upcoming road trip that will involve a lot of walking. I kept thinking I'd get a cease and desist order, but none came. These were pair number 8 and are perfect! I am happy to have found waterproof so that I'll be fine in the rain. The style works for me and I love the footprints I will leave! Not sure why this aging hippie who wore the original Earth shoes didn't start my shoe search with 'zero drop'. Could have saved some time and Zappos good will. I don't think this will be my last pair of Altras.

I am really happy with these shoes and the generous sizing. I have owned 5 different styles of Altra's over the last few years, and this particular shoe represents what motivated my first Altra purchase. They are wide in the forefoot, and narrow in the heel. The arch support is just right. I am an older person with problem feet, and these shoes keep me going. Thank you Altra for making women's shoes in the larger sizes! Just because I have big feet, doesn't mean I want to wear men's shoes.

The 5.5 (36) is the correct size, arch support is good and there is ample room for my big toe bunions and arthritis. The heels are a little too wide for my feet. The soles provide excellent cushion and traction.

The fit and size were perfect and I ordered Zappos recommended size for me. My husband and I just finished a 2 mile walk in the slush and gravel and the shoes performed wonderfully - came home with dry feet. Also the soles are grippy but do not collect a lot of small rocks, sand or dirt. We also own Altra Road Running shoes and love them as well. The RSM are a tad bit more stiff but seem to loosen with wear. I’d recommend them. We like them with elastic laces.

These fit perfectly. I researched sneakers for months before purchasing these. They have zero drop so your foot is in its natural alignment. The toe box is intentionally wide for the natural splay of the toes. I have nerve issues and these allow my feet to feel supported without being smashed. I got these for the wet, sometimes icy, sometimes snowy weather we have here and they’ve been great so far.

I haven’t worn zero drop before so I kept an open mind after reading thee reviews and understanding the difference compared to regular shoes. I have to say this shoe was incredibly comfortable when I put it on. The sole felt very cushioned but with minimal arch support. The shoe, as expected, had a generous box front which looked a bit strange with my size 10.5 shoe, but I appreciated it since my one foot is slightly longer and big toe straighter due to prior surgery. I don’t feel like it was a sloppy fit at all. What if didn’t care for, however, was the shoe squeaking when I walked, where the material bends on the top of the foot. I noticed it on my left (smaller) foot and it happened with 2 different pairs I tried. It sounded like when you walk in wet flip flops. I also think lack of arch support wasn’t necessarily good for my particular foot and knees. I think had the shoe not squeaked, though, I may have given these zero drop shoes a try. I did send them back.

I had a similar experience as another reviewer. I ordered the same size as my previous pair of Alta Lone Peaks from several years ago and when they arrived they were way too big. My previous shoes were a women’s size 10 wide. I reordered a women’s size 91/2 medium. I just received them and haven’t walked in them yet. The toe box is very roomy. They appear to be the size I need.

Felt like walking on clouds right out of the box. I've continued wearing these as my daily trail walk/jog shoes for 2 years and they are still holding up.

I wanted a walking shoe with all of the Altra benefits plus some weather resistant benefits too, mainly rain. Thank you!

I'm amazed at how well these shoes stick to the surface even with slippery wet slush or ice. Makes winter running a lot less stressful and more fun!

I love the lone peAk and the escalate which are very comfortable and durable. They have good flexibility and good space for my feet. The neutral sole is key for me so I'm not pitched forward even the slightest and don't fall into reactive compensation. Been using the brand since they started and recommend them to all my patients because they provide a foundation for their functional improvement.

I am using these shoes indoors, running 3-5 miles a day running up and down hallways on a hospital floor. The soles are drippy enough so as not to slip when pushing heavy patients on heavy beds to ct scan etc and for turning and twisting. The water resistant uppers are mandatory for the inevitable ah-stuff- that gets on your shoes that you don't want a mesh outer for. A perfect shoe for nurses and techs!

I love these shoes, although I have to use a shoe horn to get them on! Once my foot in in the shoe they feel great. Nice roomy toe box. I've been buying various Altras for the past several years and have loved them all, but these are the first pair that seem hard to get on. It's worth the effort though, as they're a great fit once on the foot. :)

Just couldn't keep these. The square toe and boxy appearance of the shoe was not my taste. My daughter loves her Altras but I am Brooks or Mizuno kinda girl.

I got these because I take a daily 3 mile hike which requires good traction and comfort. I had been wearing another pair of Altras and found they had great traction for my hikes, but they were not water resistant. I ordered these to be my "go to's" on those wet days & happily I am very pleased with them.

So happy these are waterproof. They are a little stiff to start compared with my other Altras. After I wore them a few times they loosened up. Love Altras for hiking and dog walking in all weather!

I was looking for a less bulky alternative to hiking boots, and love my Altra sneakers, so I figured I'd try Altra trail shoes. I tried 3 different Altra's (Grafton, Olympus and Lone Peak), and the Lone Peaks ended up being the winner. They fit the bill for being less bulky than a hiking boot, i.e they look like a sneaker, are light weight and very comfortable. The soles are nice and bouncy/squishy and have really good traction/grip, too. AND, they are purportedly waterproof (I have yet to test this out), unlike the Grafton and Olympus. I ordered a half size up, as I've had to with other Altra's, though I feel like with the Lone Peak it almost seems too big (i.e I maybe should've stuck with my regular size).
