I like this shoe but found the same problem another person had. The shoe squeaks as I walk. Quite annoying especially with other people. I also find that the right shoe makes a popping sound as you come up on the toe. I tried talc powder under the liner which helped the squeak for a while but it returned. Will call Altra about the popping noise. The shoe is comfortable with a more generous toe box than my other Altras. I have had multiple foot surgeries on my rt foot so a bigger toe box is nice. I'm going to travel where there will b a bit of rain so I can see how waterproof the shoes are. Overall a comfortable shoe.

I wear orthotics and it was hard getting them into the shoe because the tong of the shoe was fastened down.

I bought these to take Madagascar where I needed a shoe that would work on slippery rocks, for hiking, and for running. The Lone Peaks were perfect! My only complaint is that the front sole came unglued on the right foot and the upper got small cracks in it after only 3 months. They are still waterproof and I still love wearing them. But I was expecting better quality.

The new waterproof material is light, tough and seems to repel rain better than my older pair of Lone Peak RSMs. But my usual size, 8.5, seemed longer in the 4.0. I ordered the 8, tried both around the house and kept my original size, though I wish they fit like the older pair. Have not had fit issues when ordering non-RSM Lone Peak models. Also, please make the Lone Peak 4 RSM in the black/grey color available in the non-RSM.

Don't really like/need the nubs on the bottom. What I really need is a road shoe and I made a mistake by not reading carefully. I really like the Paradigms that I have worn out, but don't like the colors of the new models. That being said, I may have to get over that!

Nice shoes, except stitching on top of the shoe, interior aspect of each shoe. The location of the stitching irritates the top/arch area of my feet.

They are really comfy. I love the heel fit. I love this lacing system. I love the padded tongue. but this is the 3rd time Altra trail shoes have broken before 100 miles of normal use. I like them a lot, so I really wish this didn't happen. These cracked right above the first joint of my big toes, where the shoe bends. Also the black rim around the ankle got holes within a couple days. I had some green all weather Lone Peaks a few years ago that lasted all winter at 50 miles a week and never broke at all. What the heck? Again, I really love the hypothetical Lone Peaks so have bought them several times hoping for...not even the best, just acceptable... but I give up now. I don't have a lifestyle anymore where I can afford to spend over $100 on something that isn't going to last more than 2 weeks. I got these to stay more dry on the slushy days, but they already leak so it was a waste of money and I can't run out and buy new shoes now. So I'm sad. Sigh. I still love the road shoes and will always have a pair of Escalantes in rotation, but I give up on the Lone Peak.

I purchased the Lone Peaks to have a pair of Altra's I could wear in wet conditions. They were too stiff and higher at the ankle bone than the Superior 4 and 4.5 that I currently wear. Still love my Superiors and I loved the minor changes made from the 4 to the 4.5! I wear my Superiors for dog agility training that requires running turns with stops and starts on indoor turf or outdoors on grass as well as dog walks and hikes.

I had blisters on the back of heel/Achilles for the first few weeks from the stiffness. After the shoes were broken in they're comfy, but a little tighter and heavier than the non-RSM. They're resistant to water, great for snow, and not too slippery in the mud. Would work well with spikes for mud or ice. Very comfy for long hikes too.

Bought these for winter trail running. Have worn them in snowy and muddy conditions and I'm sorry to say they are not even close to being waterproof. They feel great - just like my regular Lone Peaks - and they are warmer. But they don't keep my feet dry.

I love Alta's in many ways, one being comfort. However this is the first time a shoe was too snug on the top of my foot, with no way to loosen it. Other than that it has all the other good characteristics of an Altra shoe.

I have a pair of Lone Peak 4.5's, and LOVE them. I am looking for a pair that are waterproof for more adverse weather adventures, so ordered the RSMs. I have not worn these out of the house yet, but am not loving them so far. They feel narrow and super tight at the widest point of my foot, which is annoying given that Altra's are supposed to be wide and non-constricting for feet. At the same time, they seem to be slipping a bit on my heels. I'm hoping that they'll break in a bit and feel more comfy, but unfortunately they are not super comfortable right out of the box, like most of my other Altras are.

Other women's Altra shoes have higher instep, this one felt tight across my instep and did not loosen up with wear.

I have been hiking in Lone Peaks for years so decided to buy the RSM for keeping drying in wet conditions. However, these shoes do not breathe. I took them on an overnight backpacking trip where highs were in the 60's, maybe low 70's and my feet were quite damp due to what I presume was foot sweat. My feet were pretty cold at night and I had to take my socks off to dry them - that's how damp they were. Kinda defeats the purpose of waterproofing if they still cause your feet to be wet. They are just as comfy as normal Lone Peaks, though uppers are stiffer, and I'm undecided if I'll keep them since I do need comfy waterproof shoes for an upcoming trip.

I have been wearing the Lone Peak line for years and have always loved them. This version, not so much. My main reason for wearing Altra's is the width of the front foot box. However, in the 4 they changed the tongue design. You can see where there is a band across the forefoot, as part of the lacing. That band means that if you need more room (which in previous versions was only dependant on how tightly/loosely you laced) you are out of luck. I find it tight and uncomfortable. The shoe pops - as other reviewers have mentioned, but it does do a great job of keeping my feet warm and dry on trail runs. The 4.5 is not out in a waterproof version yet - but I noticed they have removed that stupid band so it is closer to the previous versions. I'm eagerly awaiting the 4.5 RSM without the band.

I love the non-RSM version of this shoe and wanted something that would keep my feet drier when walking in dewy grass. The fit seemed the same as the non-RSM version, but the RSM material made the shoe stiff: the uppers "bit" into the top of my foot where they bent when I walked. I returned them after trying them on in the house. Maybe your mileage will vary.

This is my 5th pair of Atras and my second pair of Lone Peak RSM. I love the fit and roominess so when I'm charging downhill trail running or fast hiking my toes dont smash the front. I felt like my first pair got holes in the waterproof material early in their use but wasnt sure how many miles I had put on them. I bought my second pair for hiking The Camino and they worked great at the start. It rained a lot and I felt like my feet stayed dry and had breathability. But after 200 miles of walking holes showed up in my new shoes. I still had 300 miles to go. Shoe still worked fine but obviously not as dry. I like the fit and weight of this shoe but wish the material held up better. Thats the story w pretty much all of my Altras.

I loved the previous version (Lone Peak 3 NeoShell) of this shoe. The upper was more comfortable, and didn't make loud popping noises with every step. I kept the 4's with reservations, hoping the noise would go away once they were broken in, but 200+ miles later, they're still popping away (and the shell is beginning to crack where it bends near the big toe). All that said ... these shoes do feel great underfoot and keep my feet warm and dry in cold, muddy weather. I'm hoping they'll hold up until Altra releases an improved version. I'd prefer not to buy these again.

These were very comfortable with almost too much toe room. But when I wore them around the house to see how I liked them, the shoe “breaks” or bends inward across the base of my toes and hits the top of my foot. I sent them back.

I've had Altra shoes before and these were the same quality and amazing fit as the other styles I've had. However, like a couple of other people have mentioned, right out of the box these shoes both made a popping noise just walking across the floor, every step I took. I got them today and have them boxed up to return tomorrow. I would recommend them highly if you could get a quiet pair.

Wide at the ball of the foot, reasonable at the heel. Not very structured and very lightweight. The waterproof coating makes them look, feel, and sound a little cheap -- they also aren't super waterproof. If you are walking through tall dewy grass, a bit of water will seep through. I do like that they are lightweight but they aren't exactly what I was looking for here.

I normally love Altra shoes with zero drop. These shoes seemed great but when worn for a long period of time these shoes did not feel the same as other Altras. The foam was too soft (my foot felt very unstable) and the shoe top was very thin. My feet started to experience pain during my activities and I didn’t feel secure in these shoes. Ended up returning.

These are easily the most comfortable shoes I’ve ever worn. I have a narrow heel, a low volume instep, and a wide ball of the foot so it is fairly difficult for me to find a shoe that accommodates all of that. Unfortunately, like some other reviewers have mentioned, despite their relatively high price, these shoes started falling apart almost immediately. I would say I’ve been wearing them 7-10 hours per week for the last four months and they already have holes and cracks across the ball of the foot and holes in the fabric around the ankles. The waterproofing started to fail within weeks of having them. I’ve had waterproof trail runners in other brands that held up for a couple of years before I started feeling leaks! Despite their comfort these shoes just aren’t worth the cost.

Because the material is stiff from being waterproof, when your foot bends the material creases in and presses on the tops of my toes/foot. Also the tongue on one shoe is so stiff and has extra material it pokes into the top of my foot so bad I cannot wear them at all. I wish the material was more flexible otherwise these would be great. Love all my other Altra shoes I've had.
