I tried about 27 different pairs of boots, including a couple pair of Altras (same model but women's and/or different color). I have ridiculously hard feet to fit (obviously). After receiving this boot directly from Altra, I wore them for several days around the house and then took them outside and walked many miles before an 8-day hike in the Swiss Alps. The toes were roomy enough for my duck feet and I got no blisters. They were as comfortable as my TIMPs and other Lone Peak trail shoes. The waterproofing worked great, although my feet did get a bit hot on warm days. I did not have trouble with kicking up rocks on the scree slopes as others have reported. I got a couple nicks in the upper but it didn't affect the performance of the shoe. I would like to patch the little holes in the waterproofing though. Seems like uppers have always been an issue since my first pair of Altras years ago. I did buy the men's 8.5 rather than the women's 10 because of high arches. The women's boots rubbed the top of my foot, but the men's were perfect. I will definitely buy these again.

I first became aware of Altras when I was hiking on the AT a few years ago and stayed at a shelter with a bunch of younger through-hikers. More than half of them were wearing Lone Peaks, and I got into detailed conversations about why they chose this shoe for a 2000 mile hike. I was very skeptical- I am 64 years old and been hiking since I was a teenager. When I started hiking, boots were more like foot-shaped concrete blocks, stiff, heavy, uncomfortable. I moved away from clunky boots over the years, but still believed there needed to be something more substantial than what the Lone Peak looked like. The through-hikers convinced me to try a pair, and I could not possibly be more delighted with my experience. I've got over 300 miles on them, mostly in the southern Appalachians, but 70 or so in the Winds of Wyoming where they got an especially intense workout, 40 pound pack, rocks, mud, even a little snow. Blisters have always been a problem for me, but I've not had a single one with the Lone Peaks, not even a hot spot. I'll leave it here with this: they are without question the most comfortable boot I've ever hiked in.

I've been wearing the Lone Peaks since the very first version, and always wished they made a mid-height version for backpacking, so I was happy to finally try these. They have exceeded my expectations in every way. Super comfortable, so far have been great at keeping my feet dry and protected, still lightweight. I use them primarily for backpacking, I usually use regular Lone Peaks or low RSMs for day hikes unless it's supposed to be super wet, then I'll grab these. I'm looking forward to seeing how they do in the snow when winter gets here and I try them out with my micro spikes. The only thing that would be nice is if there were another color option, something more "woodsy". The green low RSMs are the best color scheme Altra has ever had, it would be great if these were available in that scheme as well. Overall, I think these are just about perfect, and a soon as I see them on sale somewhere I'll be grabbing another pair..

Fit and size were fine, material was light weight and they felt comfortable, just what I was looking for in a light weight, hi-top, walking shoe

Comfortable. Tongue gusset makes it a little tight getting them on and off. Would prefer hooks instead of eyes for the top one or two lace points. Haven't used on the trail yet.

These shoes fit the same as my other Altras- I could wear them immediately without breaking them in (I do wear custom orthotic inserts, so that probably helped. I have not worn high-tops in many years so I was a little worried about ankle-rubbing, but there was no problem. The shoes are lightweight for a trail boot, so are easy to walk in. I don't know how durable they will be, but if they wear out too soon I will let you know. I was concerned about how waterproof they would be, but I've stepped in one-two inch puddles and didn't get wet. Also slid around in some mud (unintentionally) and the tread held reasonably well. When I washed the mud off, they did not leak moisture inside. My last concern was whether the waterproofing will make them too hot- not so far but we're only in the 80s. Overall, I'm glad I bought them and I look forward to giving them more extensive firld testing!

Since migrating to zero drop / natural toe shape shoes (work, casual, and hiking) over the past 2 years, I have quickly found very limited options in a true waterproof shoe or winter hiker I can use here in New Hampshire. I purchased the 3.5's Neoshell early on but found them not really waterproof and had a pinching effect in the toe area when I walked. They were returned. When these 4.0's released I had not heard of eVent before and some reviews sounded critical of it. Did some quick online research and found it on par with Gore-Tex so gave it a try. By this point, I had done more winter hiking this past season and was feeling the crunch of my toes in the old Bean Storm Chase Boots I've worn for 10+ years. Needed to find a suitable replacement to do fast and light winter hiking. I read in other reviews that this 4.0 runs big so I ordered my normal size from all the other Altra's I own (also have the MT's low cut) knowing i would be wearing a thick trekking wool sock and liner. The fit is perfect....laced a bit looser to accommodate the sock, the length is perfect. I still wouldn't order a smaller size even using my normal "midweight" wool socks. I have walked about 10 trail miles so far in the new shoes, but intentionally through standing water and mud (enough to submerge forefoot) No leaks. Even submerged them with weights in my sink for an hour. No leaks. The rubber sole is more rugged than the 3.5's and looks very similar to the MT Vibram. The cushioning is less than the 3.5's and more than the MT's. I have used these with Kahtoola Microspikes and they fit well. Full length Trail crampons such as Hillshound do not fit well due to the very flexible toe area causing toes to get crunched. The Hillshound Cypress6, a smaller mid-foot 6 point crampon, fits great. Overall, a great boot that looks to have good promise for my wet and winter needs.

Comfortable shoes. I have trouble with toe boxes not being wide enough. this is perfect. it's actually shaped like a human foot. love the hooks for a gaiter too. I do wish they would make an all leather version, maybe even with gore tex lining for serious cold weather, but I'm loving these so far.

First hike in the mids.... great day for a test drive. I have always struggled with my feet, and Altras are the first hiking trail shoes that don't cause problems for me. After a foot of snow, followed by freezing rain, I went and hiked 8 miles through water and mud to see if I liked them. Feet came out feeling fresh and bone dry. I'm a fan.

After a solid week of mudruns on the Gettysburg Battlefield (PA) with Pickett's Charge a great testing ground after days of rain, these have easily topped my list for best trail shoe I've ever had; it's not even a close call! Like so many, I have a literal pile of shoes and boots from Five Fingers to lots of build hiking boots. Different terrain/conditions demand some variety for purpose and sheer enjoyment. I've trended minimalist, although have two pair of Altras over the last two/three years and I've come to appreciate them much over the miles. These RSMs are by a good measure the best shoe I have ever put on my feet (I wear 1/2 size larger in Altras). They have an almost minimalist feel right out of the box up and are actually waterproof (!!!) and breathable (!!!). Better than GorTex and I never thought I'd say that. :-)

I've used these for about a week for nearly everything from walking the dog in the woods to hiking in the mountains in the rain. They are great. Possibly my favorite shoe from Altra as far as comfort goes. I frequently run in the escalante and found the sizing to be the same. Excellent shoe for all weather fun, but especially some wet, muddy stuff. I run pretty hot all the time and do not have a problem with my feet feeling hot at all. Love the stable feeling of the midtop as well

Back story - Been wearing Altras since the lone peaks 2.0. So for years now. I wore nothing but Altras during my 2017 PCT thru hike and got more than a couple of people to start wearing them when they got blisters. I bought these to replace my mid 3.5s. I only bought mids because my job demands I wear boots or id just have the 4.0s. First impressions - Shipping was prime speed fast, thanks guys. Styling is Ugly. I got the grey ones. I've always thought Altras were good looking even the 2.0 yellow clown shoes.. but this color didn't look great to my eyes. I've quickly worn them into a more muted color as I abuse my shoes thoroughly. Upon first wearing them I got a couple hot spots on the top of both my feet and had to mess with the tongue to get it to sit right. Fit - Same as 3.5s. Got the same size and fit same. Width doesn't feel any narrower or wider than 3.5s to me. No hot spots around the toes or rubbing. I have wider feet. Boot is so Light. Love it. Tread is a bit more aggressive looking than 3.5s. Still no quick release hooks for the laces at the top of the boot. Making on and offs tedious. Something to add for 4.5s. 40 or so miles in - they feel awesome. Light. Grippy enough. I do lots of off trail cross country hiking at work. Was concerned how the fabric would hold up, no tears yet. Have had them in wet grass and my feet stayed dry. Can't speak to snow or rain yet. I love Altras. Its incredibly difficult to find a zero drop wide toe boot. In fact I believe Altras to be the only shoe company to mass produce them. I'm glad this iteration is still so good. Will continue to rock and recommend Altras. It's just a better way to move. Thanks guys.

I have worn them for a week straight now, and love them! They are keeping my feet dry in the wet snow I've been working in every day, and surprisingly my feet have stayed warm (as these are not insulated). Wore them for a ride on my fatbike today, and while most of my body was cold on the descent back home, my toes were still comfortable, which has always been the opposite even in insulated work boots. And traction on ice has been great too. My new favs!

My inital thoughts on these were that they were kind of a bummer. It seems like they just weren't going to be up to snuff for what I was wanting. I was able to take these on a 9 mile backcountry trip this weeekend, and while they felt very true to size, I found that I needed my typical Altra size of a 10.5. The eVent was fantastic at keeping water out and when some did seem to seep in, they dried out very quickly. I was impressed at how fresh my legs and feet felt after the 9 mile bushwhack. There was virtually no trail use and they performed fantastically. Sorry to Altra for giving a review before REALLY using them.

Bought a pair in March 2018. Use them to walk and hike my property, and have yet to get wet feet while wearing during heavy frost or high wet grass. I also wear to gym on cold or rainy days and have no problems jumping rope or running sprints. I would probably buy another pair in the future....time will tell on how long they last. I'm going on 8 months of moderate use.

This light weight approach boot is outstanding , for me the sizes is right but could be wider ( i'm 6 feet & 149 pounds ) I see there was a ~smidge ~ Of Whith added , I am tall and lanky with a wide 4 foot , retired over 25 years in the uniform services, I personally consider myself an expert in footwear-destruction by by merrily wearing them out- literally. ( carrying heavy loads ) such as rucksacks waiting up to 80 pounds , with protective ballistic vest, hardhat- helmet with night vision goggles attach , M4 assault rifle 9 mm side arm with up to 14 clips of ammunition seven bananas clips for the M4 and seventh straight clips for the M9 Beretta . Escaping evasion E&E Kit first aid kit with IVsystem - medevac, food in water to sustain a lengthy patrols (so the Altra LP-4 rain snow mud , it's just what I've been looking for - I do volunteer work in greenhouses , I also think they would do good in ecological environments such as urban gardening - container gardening: ( I don't know how well they would do in Afghanistan mountains or in Sardinia or the Mohave desert - they would probably do me good ( because I would take three pair there so- light ( i'm thinking the new boot they're coming out with in July would be just -Right especially if they make it wider in the forefoot and had some earth tone colors , including grey . I have about 18 pair of Altra footwear .

Really love this show so far. Extremely light compared to the previous model, and definitely more waterproof. I've worn mine in really sloppy mud half a dozen times so far and I've stayed nice and dry. The traction in mud isn't quite as good as the previous lone peak tread, but the tread is clearly much more durable than before so you replace a little better traction in mud with what I'm anticipating will be at least twice the durability. I found sizing between this shoe and the non RSM version to be the same. I usually wear 12.5 in lone peaks, but had to wear 13's in the lone peak 3.5's. I wear a size 12 in the lone peak 4's. It basically feels like a pair of superior 3.5's but with much better fit in the heel. These things fit like a glove on me. These also have better cushioning than a pair of Superiors, but the stack height is still fairly low.

Bought these on a whim at the advice of a friend. I have only worn 4 different brands long term. The comfort of these are off the chart at least for now, I only have 6 miles on them. But here the bad, they're really hard to get my feet into even with strings let out to max. And let knot forget the popping sound while walking, sounds like I have flip flops on. I will see about durability and waterproof along the way.

Great out of the box comfort. Amazing toe box room. Not waterproof, wet for a winter run and hit a puddle, did not submerge the shoe, leakage from the sole seam. Buyer beware if your looking for waterproof... it's not! I love the shoe no the less. < 50 miles on the shoe.

I'm a 9 in every altra shoe. However, the lone peak mid rsm is a full size too big. Otherwise, I love the shoe. And as I chronic ankle roller the mid is my new must have for all trail running.
