These are awesome. I use them as running shoes to give me much needed ankle support. I had already owned a pair of these in the waterproof version that I used for an 85-mile trek in Alaska three years ago; they performed flawlessly. But, with them being a size larger for hiking and weighing more than the mesh styles, they weren’t quite the best option for running. So, I purchased the mesh style. One shoe in size 11.5 weighs 14.8-oz. Granted, this is kinda heavy for a running shoe, but it is much more comfortable than wearing ankle braces inside of my running shoes …and the total weight is about the same. Nothing is going to replace my ankles of 40-years ago, and wearing these “Hi-Tops” is not a perfect solution, but it’s the best I’ve come up with. As far as sizing goes, they fit just like my Altra Torins.

Just like all Altras, these are great, and comfortable right out of the box. If you've never worn Altras or other zero drop shoes before, these will be a game-changer in terms of comfort, once you get used to the zero drop. If you have work Altras before, then you know what to expect - a neutral, comfortable shoe with a lot of room for your toes. As far as sizing is concerned, I bought these exclusively for backpacking (which requires extra room in front of the toes), so I went half a size up from my size with Altra running shoes. Overall great shoes for backpacking/hiking, but can't comment how they are for trail running.

I’m never one to write reviews, but this one deserves one. I’ve used Rocky RLW’s for the last couple of years. I ruck often and I’ve always loved ankle support and cushion that you get from boots. I recently did a 3 day, 60 mile event and noticed the ball of my feet my partially numb. I get it, 60 miles is not normal, but it made me think of zero drops. What if there are boots out there that allows your feet to carry loads evenly throughout?
Enter the Lone Peaks Mids.
I’ve done three trail hikes in three straight days, and after doing them, I’m convinced that this is the brown boot killer. No hot spots or blisters, and no tape. Lots of hills, sand, loose rocks, and mud. My foot stayed in place. I didn’t feel sharp rocks under me at all. I love the wide foot shape of Altras, as it allows my feet to really spread and control my stride. This is important specially on uneven rough terrain. The boots are light and nimble, but still gives you amazing support up to your ankles. The boots are comfortable and breathable, and has just enough cushion under your feet for comfort (mind you I was hiking with weight) but still has enough for you to feel the ground.
This really feels like an extension of my feet. I didn’t have trouble transitioning to zero drops because I wore my Superiors for two weeks prior to purchasing this.
Absolutely love everything about this boot. There’s nothing I would change. I will be buying more pairs of these moving forward.

These shoes have great ankle support, which is exactly what I had hoped for. After wearing Altras for 2 years now, I cannot wear any other shoe. Most contemporary shoe design is actually dis-functional in that shoes are not shaped for your foot, they're shaped for an idea. Feet are not narrow in the toe region, they are actually quite wide in many people. Cramming my feet into narrow sneakers or dress shoes is like wearing pants that are two sizes too small....hahaha....ridiculous.
These Altras still include all of the other benefits of Altra's design - the Zero-drop with no heel lift, the wide toe box, and strong cushioning. Interestingly enough, as some other reviewers have stated, there is a clicking noise fairly often when I walk. It is only in my left shoe and I think it is probably the mid-sole flexing and reshaping. No matter, out hiking I will rarely be aware of it while clambering over boulders and gravel trails.
I'd also recommend:
I cannot where other brands since they are not wide enough and most of them have heels.

I have several pairs of Altra's and really like the wide toe box. I have taken several hikes in these and have found them comfortable and supportive. I don't like the lacing system. The top eyelets are closed unlike other hiking boots that I have making them more difficult to get in.

I like these but the heel on the right side is de-laminating after only a month of occasional use. Very disappointing for the cost.

I live in Hawaii and hike over rocks - a lot. I tried these because after years of wearing either flip flops (we call them slippers) or no shoes, my toes have spread out. I LOVE THESE BOOTS. I had to use a different insole for better arch support, but other than that I am super happy with the. They have held up extremely well under hard use!

If you're looking for a lightweight waterproof mid top trail runner or hiking boots, this is the one to go with. It is extremely comfortable and won't leave your feet feeling sore after putting in some miles on the trail. Highly recommend for people with flat wide feet too.

I bought these shoes and the RSM. Because we've had much more rain, snow, and mud, I'be been wearing the RSM more. But they both fit my foot really well and are more comfortable than any other hiking boots I've owned.

If you’re looking for comfortable light hikers, these are the ones! I love the wide toe box and cushioning, but my favorite thing is how incredibly light they are. Sometimes I’m annoyed by the laces on hiking boots, but these laces are bulletproof and easy to tie and to keep tied. The boots are attractive too and can be worn for everyday use. The fit is very accurate as marked. I also like the gaiter traps on the back and sides as well as the hook on the front. Super nice boots!

This is a lightweight shoe that offers the zero-drop sole that Altra is known for, a snug heel and good lacing system that holds the shoe securely to your foot, and a wide toe box for exceptional comfort. I go out on the trails for 3-5 miles and this shoe is perfect. I like the high-tops because I have fallen arches and the extra height provides added support or at least makes my experience on the trail better.

I am a retired 69 yo who has been hiking avidly for 57 years. I have tried nearly every kind of hiking shoe and boot on the market, and I rate the Lone Peak Mid Mesh as the best hiking shoe ever made - at least that I am aware of. I now hike 5+ days a week - 8-15 miles over rocky and steep terrain. I have the Lone Peak lows and the mids but nearly always reach for the Mids. Why the Mid? Better stability and control for minimal extra weight, and better at keeping out dirt and debris. The 4.0 Mid is a definite improvement over the 3.5. Better than Excellent!! Get it NOW!!

I am a 145lb 5'10 over-supinator with knee issues. Into my 30s, knee pain hindered my life, which frankly had become unacceptable. My quest to find footwear that could restore my gait to healthy function led me to these shoes. Saucony came before this, the low pro vegan jazz. It was a step in the right direction, but their durability (or lack thereof) couldn't hang with my work as a horticulturalist. Boots were simply not an option as they lit my knee on fire.
Enter the Altra Lone Peak 4 hi-tops. I'd read reviews saying that these shoes take some time to get accustomed to and that is understatement of the year. It took well over a month of strange pains and straight up confusion about what my feet were trying to do before becoming excited to put these shoes on in the morning. Before, my feet were borderline clubs, getting jammed into the ground heel-first as I bopped around like a chicken. But now my toes splay out comfortably as I've learned to take shorter and more patient steps. These shoes also make it dang near physiologically impossible for me to heel strike and as such, my knee pain has waned significantly. In fact, the pain has almost completely subsided at this point.
I'm not a review writer, but there's just not a lot of info out there for the skinny active dude with chronic knee pain and I want to help those with similar issues. This shoe may not be the fix for you, but as someone who has done a lot of research and testing, I'd recommend giving it a try. And a note on sizing: the majority of reviews seem to say Altras run small... that is not my experience at all. The massive toebox makes an Altra 9.5 feel like a size 11 shoe to me. I used to wear size 10-10.5 in everything, but when I go back to shoes that size, the toe box is debilitatingly small. I actually will start wearing larger sneakers as a result of the Altras, so I am just not getting the "runs small" assessments.

I switched from Hoka One One to Altra because the wide toe box. The shoe itself is so comfortable. I trail run and hike in them.
Also the shoes looks very stylish and do not mind wearing them on a jeans as an everyday shoes really.
It is an awesome product and wish they was more color choices than the 2

I am an avid hiker, I had been wearing a German boot for years, in fact I have bought five boots from the same manufacture and thought I had my hiking shoe. I broke my ankle about 2 years ago, work related, not hiking. I went back to my previous boot and it bothered my ankle and the soles of the boot showed signs of wear with in a moth of me using them. I guess the Texas rocky terrain and heat took it's toll on the German boots. I saw some people praising the Altra Lone Peak, so I thought I'd give email a try. Now two months later I realize that I have a new hiking shoe. I just got done with a 10 mile hike in the Texas heat over some very rough, rocky terrain. The soles still look new minus some dirt and grime. The past two months I have been trying to abuse them, and these shoes are taking it. I love, love, love the tow box. So much room when my feet swell. They have great ventilation, I love the minimalistic sole that lets your foot conform more to the ground, they have good grip and the zero drop sole (I believe that's what it's called) is amazing and helps me strike on ball of my foot and not the heel. I am beyond impressed with these shoes. I am looking forward to my next pair(s) of Altra shoes.

I find these are hands down the most comfortable boot for hiking in. I've had every other boot by Altra from the 3 neoshell to the 4 RSM . The mesh is the best on my freakishly wide feet. I still have a stash of the Neoshell 3 lone Peak boots for the cold or raining hikes but these with be my 'go to' this summer on my long through hike. Love this boot!!! Please don't ever make it narrower.

Absolutely fantastic. Best pair of hiking boots I've ever owned, hands down. Plenty of toe box room. Took them for a 3 mile hike on the AT out of the box. No blisters and no sore feet. Great traction as well.
