they are true to with and they do run a full size smaller. i usually wear a 9.5 but went up a full size to 10.5. the wide toe box give my toes lots of room to spread when i walk. although they didn't last as long as my last pair. i ware them all year round. running, walking, and hiking with my husky.

These were a Christmas gift for my daughter. However, there is one small issue. One of the shoestrings were frayed badly as if it had been cut. I never took the boots out of the box they came in, so I am positive they were shipped that way. I would like to request a new lace be sent.

I was given a pair of Altra Lone Peak 4.0 that was a year or so old. Loved them. I have been trying to buy another pair that I like as much. I am striking out all around having tried to purchase the Olympus and RSM. All of the new Altra shoes, including the Lone Peak 4 Mid Mesh, are too narrow for my feet. I have Tailor's bunions/bunionettes so my feet are very sensitive to toe box width. I hear Altra is going back to their wider style. I hope they do.

These are true to size for me. Maybe size up a half size for heavy hiking socks. These have no waterproof membrane, thus are very light. Ankle height makes them a little difficult to put on. I agree with another reviewer that speed hooks would be a great idea. Comfortable right out of the box. Great light hikers, but I no longer run, so can't comment on that. Too early to comment on durability, but my other Altras seem plenty durable.

I loved having these this summer, on hot long days these are the best shoes to have going up a mountain. when hiking longs peak i ran into a gentelman that had the lows and he was complaining about grip on the rocks. the largest percentage of time spent in these is on sharp granite and i personally love the performance. the shoe did stretch out so if i could go back i would get a half size smaller. hiking up couloirs with a little ice is where i ran into trouble. these bog with water at sight of a drop of moisture on the ground. looking forward to trying the rsm with gaitors next time around

My first shipment was on time and exactly what I ordered. However had to return as a size to small. Customer service was great! The replacements arrived and I moved my Orthotics to the new shoes and it was a disaster! Was ready to return when I decided to try them how they came. Niiice!! Like soft slippers with fair support. I have had them on for 12 hours and no pain! The con is my feet are narrow size B so a lot of side movement. I have them so tight that the material is scrunched but not bothering me. PLEASE LOOK AT PRODUCING A NARROW WIDTH. Thank You

I've been wearing these shoes for 1 full week, my feet fell so much better and my posture has improved with less aches and pains. Its not pretty but this shoe is incredibly comfortable. The heel is level with the toe area and has an extra wide toe box that allows movement of the toes. (this is also why they look funny). I need the ankle support and the lacing allows for my high arch. I use these shoes at work as a contractor, I'm 66 and in good shape but my feet and ankles have been the biggest problem as I age. I highly recommend these shoes, or sneaker or boot, I'm not sure what to call them except comfortable but not pretty..

Little snug getting on and off. But once laced up they were true to size and great toe room which Altras are made for. Too early in the wear cycle for me to comment on durability and comfort while running.

I am a "retired" runner looking for a comfortable boot like black shoe that I could wear everyday. My ankles are fried from many years of running and I need the support. I have worn these pretty much daily for the last 2 weeks and am very happy with the feel. I have worn them in the snow walking my dog, my feet stay dry and warm. I would love to take them on the trail, but alas will have to keep them on the dry road at a steady pace!

Love the lateral support of the mid height. Less plush than other Altras but perfect for my uses (dog walks on varied terrain). Note on sizing: I have read elsewhere that these run up to a full size smaller than other Altras; I found them to be maybe a quarter of a size shorter, not enough to move to 13 from my typical 12.5. I tried both sizes on. Also, I returned 1 pair due to a de-attached nylon eyelet. Otherwise seems solid.

I bought a pair of these for warm weather hikes and runs after owning 3 pairs of LP 3.0 mids, which I really love. These feel too large and the upper has no rigidity; my feet slide around inside the shoe and threaten to turn my ankles. I do like the aggressive tread on them. The laces are ridiculously long

I put about 200 miles on my Altras in 2019. Once I had them fully on my feet they felt awesome. The zero drop has you using parts of your lower body that you can tell are underused. The mesh preforms beautifully. I crossed a few streams in these and they drained the water faster than you'd expect. But the drawbacks are unfortunate. Mine just got shredded. I live in Alaska, so we have a good mix of alpine and deep woods within any typical 20 miles. These just didn't hold up. I have holes in both shoes that are much to big to truly consider wearing these for 2020. While the toe box is very wide (which is great!) the mid/upper foot is oddly narrow. I've never had this same following problem with any other shoe I have ever worn, but these were so difficult to get on that I broke the strap behind each heel within a month. It was a task to get these on my feet even with the laces off. I would consider my feet to be regular in width. This made getting out of my tent a real annoying process, since I would need to spend an excruciating amount of time pulling these onto my feet. I found that the fairly notorious hiking youtuber JupiterHikes had the same issue with these, which I found reassuring. In conclusion - I love they way these shoes preform in general, but the fragility is below my expectations for an outdoor shoe. And holy cow these are hard to get on! Hopefully if you choose to purchase these you have better luck than I did, there really is some great technology here!

I really wanted to like this shoe. I was excited to have a trail runner with more protection for cold and wet runs. Unfortunately, the shoe had a hole in it right out of the box; threads were loose. The hole would allow dirt/debris and water right into the footbox, so these are going back. I am hesitant to purchase more because of the amount of reviewers saying they have issues with reliability.

I keep buying this shoe and they feel great and are durable for about 30 days and 100miles and then just do not hold up. Great for my wide foot but again NOT DURABLE. ALTRA has held up to their warranty and I appreciate that.

PROS: While sizing and initial comfort are great I would not recommend going on an major hikes with these. The wide toe box is great. Initial comfort is awesome. The shoe is incredibly light weight. Great for light hikes and some light trail running CONS: The midsole, insole and shank of the shoes are very pliable. Is great for grip if your running on some easier trails as it provides flexibility to the shoe to grip onto rocks it, HOWEVER that same flexibility will take it's toll on your foot over a long haul. Anything longer than 4-5 miles these shoes will start to wear on your feet big time! They don't have enough cushioning over small rocks, unfortunately you can feel them dig into your feet. Especially coming downhill on a larger hike. The lack of cushioning and sturdiness to the bottom of the shoe will leave your feet very sore. Because the sole is so pliable your feet will take a beating when walking on rocks for an extended period of time. The toe cap is also very weak and could use some cushioning. It's essentially a very thing layer of fabric. You can feel small rocks you might kick with the front of your toes. Again would not recommend at all for longer hikes.

I have multiple pairs of Altra and this is my 4th pair of this model. They are very comfortable but as many have commented they are not very durable. I hike 30 miles a week. They lose cushion in just a few months. If you could marry the Lone Peak mid with the Olympus my world would be complete

A friend bought these, didn't really like them so he gave them to me. I find them very, very difficult to get one. Can't imagine wearing them on a multi day hike and dealing with the getting them on and off every day. I loosening and lessening the shoe strings and then it's still takes some force to actually get them on. Shouldn't be that hard. Shoe strings are way to long as well.

First I want to say these are the most comfortable shoe I have worn hiking. No blisters, no hot spots, just bliss. The bad is they just down last-after 125-150 miles the cushion is gone. The toe caps are starting to peel up. This should not be happening on 4 month old shoes.

I've been tail running in Altra's for many years. Out of the box, I found the Lone Peak 4 mids to be warm, with a good wrap around the forefoot for stability and super grip on dirt, snow and rocks. Everything I'm looking for in a winter trail running shoe. Unfortunately after only a few uses I noticed the fabric at the flex point on the toe box begin to crease and show wear. After a little over 100 miles of tail travel there was either a hole or tear to the fabric on both sides of each shoe. A real disappointment as I've loved the shoes in every other way. The shop I bought them from reported similar complaints and thankfully made dealing with the issue very easy for me. I'd purchase another pair if they fix this problem.

These shoes do not vent properly causing major swamp foot. Had to hike 3 1/2 hours in the pouring rain 4000 foot elevation. By the time we reached the shelter my Altra's were completely soaking wet even with Gore-Tex gators. They were frozen solid when we woke up that morning and continued to stay waterlogged the rest of the 3 day trip in 22 degree weather. Don't settle for anything less than Gore-Tex. eVent is a JOKE

What happened to Altra's wide forefoot designs? Everything in their current line is too narrow for the ball of my foot.

I will have to return these shoes to the manufacturer as I have had them for less than 2 weeks and the insoles are already dead. Altra does not offer a replacement insole which is a complete failure by them given the unique toe box shape and design. Also, let me point out again that the insole is completely flat in less than 2 weeks, I purchased and took delivery of these mid January 2020, I have not even walked 10 miles in these shoes. They were perfectly comfortable for a grand total of 4 days which totals to about $35 a day of use. I called Altra and was essentially blown off. I would highly recommend that if you are looking for a really comfortable out of the box shoe that lasts for you to look at GoRuck. They look better and feel way better than these shoes... come to think of it, I will likely just toss these in the garbage. What a waste of money.

I will start by saying I have hiked/backpacked 1000s of miles on lone peaks and I love them. I have never had any complications about any lone peaks I have ever owned until the lone peak 4s. I started the 70ish mile High Sierra Trail in a brand new pair of lone peak 4 mids. By mile 10 the toe caps had already popped loose and my mile 25 the soles had separated from the shoe and they resembled a cheap pair of thin flip flops under foot. Around mile 50 the lugs had worn to the point of being slippery and dangerous on wet rocks. Speaking of wet..the materials don't dry near as fast as other versions of the lone peaks and the more you get them wet the faster they fall apart. I stuck it out and after completing the HST I hoped on a plain to go hike the lost coast with my girl. This hike was the death of these awful shoes. I certainly hope that Altra will look to source different materials for these shoes including the soles. Awful awful awful!! I anxiously await an improvement on the lone peak. These are a step in the wrong direction. I will add that Altra commented to me that the lone peak was NOT made for the thru hiking. I was taken back by that statement.
