After reading the bad reviews on the Lone Peak 4, I felt like I had to jump in. My shoes were so comfortable out of the box. They are light weight but still durable. Now they are not work boot tough but very durable for trail running. I have had no issues with them coming apart or having defects. The comfort is great and my knee problems went away after 3 runs in them. The Altra shoe design is an amazing breakthrough and makes so much sense. Thank you Altra for running comfort, quality and a great looking product.

This is the second pair I purchased immediately after receiving and confirming the fit of the first pair of Lone Peak 4 Mid Mesh in the black. This pair is the same size in the 9 1/2 D medium. In the review I made of the first pair, I stated that I wear a size 9 D medium in my other shoes and boots of other brands. I tried the size 9 D medium in these shoes and they were just a little bit short in the toe box. I returned the 9 D medium and reordered the size 9 1/2 D medium. The 9 1/2 D medium is a perfect fit for me in these shoes. This pair is the Ivy/Green, Red Clay color. They really are very comfortable and give your toes the room they need because of the larger designed toe box of the Altra brand footwear. Try them out. I think you will like them! Respectfully, Utah Mike.

I wear a size 9 D medium in a couple other brands of shoes and boots. I initially ordered these in size 9 D medium and they were just a little bit short in the toe box. The reorder was for 9 1/2 D medium and they are perfect for me. The larger (wider) toe box makes this brand a winner for me. It is so comfortable not having my toes squeezed together anymore! It's like wearing my sandals but having all the protection and support of a boot! I ordered a second pair of the Lone Peak 4 Mid Mesh and also ordered a pair of the Torin 4 shoes for running on paved surfaces. Try them out! I think you will like them. Respectfully, Utah Mike.

I am an avid hiker and absolutely love these shoes! I bought these in January 2019. Did a ton of hiking in Moab when I lived there with these and they ripped the trails out there. Moved to Colorado in June 2019 and did all sorts hiking around boulder, Denver and in summit county. They just feel like the best shoe I've ever worn. I like that I can trail run in them and also trust them on gnarly steep terrain as well. All around 10/10 and would recommend these to anyone that wants an aggressive hiking shoe! But I will warn they don't do well in creek crossings! Just watch your step and you should be fine.

I really like these shoes, so far. I have only had them a couple days, but so far, so good. I had to return the original pair as they are a .5 size smaller than marked. I bought a pair of Altra running shoes at 12.5 and they fit perfect. The only concern I have is the band across the top of the foot. It makes it a bit difficult to put the shoe on, but can be easily removed if necessary. Return was easy and quick. Definitely order a .5 size larger. I will update my stars and review in a bit.

Having tried quite a number of trail/hiking shoes and finding them lacking in support or being wide enough I found these Altra Lone Peak 4's. They fit great with the box being right and the heels staying put. Living in the Redwoods and daily hiking these shoes are great.

I have a previously injured right knee that has been causing me pain while walking and hiking. I tried orthotic inserts in my regular shoes, in addition to rehabbing my knee but was still in pain. At the urging of a FaceBook group I tried the Altras. They were saying how zero drop shoes are good for your feet, knees and hips. I was stunned at how much more comfortable these shoes are to hike in - while I still have some knee pain - it is greatly reduced and walking has become enjoyable, instead of excruciating again. I am a believer - these shoes are great! I will be ordering more!

This is my 4th pair and put about 400 Miles on these. I mostly hike in them but use them for chores around house as well. Great shoes and pretty tough. I think the 4.5’s are coming. I can’t wait!

Altra Lone Peak Mid is the only shoe I wear, period. It's really, truly zero drop, just what my back, hips & knees want. It's the only style whose toe box is wide enough and high enough for my forefoot. The sole cushion is moderate: I wish it were max.
I'd also recommend:
only Altra!

Great shoes with tons of toe room. I started out with the Temp 1.5, but they felt like they had a little too much cushioning, and by the end of the day, they felt too small because my feet had swelled. I ordered the Lonepeaks on a whim, and I'm glad I did; they're super comfortable right out of the box. They're not as cushiony as the Temps, but I prefer a little less cushion. Because of my previous experience with the Temps, I got these in my normal size and in half a size larger. I ended up going with the larger size. They feel a little loose in the toe box, but my heels don't slip at all, and they should be perfect in the winter with wool socks or backpacking with Superfeet. This is my first pair of Altras after switching from Inov8 as my favorite hiking shoe, and so far I'm impressed. They're comfortable, light, and feel durable. The ride is great and very stable, while still being able to feel the ground under your feet. So far, the mesh feels cool and breathable. If you're getting these exclusively for backpacking, I'd recommend the Lonepeak low-tops in half a size larger than normal. I'm a little iffy on this much ankle support for backpacking, but it's great for everyday walking over varied terrain.
I'd also recommend:
Inov8

My PT suggested these because of my wide feet and need to use inserts. So comfortable. I normally take a 4E in other brands, but the "medium" in this design is perfect. It would be nice if they offered other choices in colors. Overall great design !

These boots are rugged, tough, durable, and excellent. I bought them to hike the West Coast Trail, and I'll be honest I was a little nervous about them holding up. But, they were the only minimalist/zero drop/wide toe box hiking boot I could find on the market that might possibly get the job done. Boy, was I not disappointed. I hiked with these bad boys through roots, mud, sticks, sand, ladders, rocks, etc. and they held up perfectly. Breathable, flexible, and indeed waterproof (disclaimer: I did put a coat of scotch guard on them just to be safe). These boots took me all the way and I can't recommend them enough. If you are hesitating, don't! These are the boots for you.

I hiked 5 days doing 14 mile days through rain and dry weather on the blue trail. I never felt pain in feet, no blisters and are most comfortable shoes for hiking. I tried many other hiking boots and shoes and these will save your feet and back.

If you are an Altra covert you already know, if not you should! The extra toe space and zerodrop design have made Altras the only shoes I wear - I told my wife "they make my feet feel happy!" After wearing the Lone Peaks for about three minutes in our living room, we went off on a 10 mile Colorado hike, and I decided to break them in then (never take new shoes on a long hike , right!?). They were perfect, no issues, as expected and experienced with the other Altras I own. The only difference is a bit more ankle support, but the fit, comfort, and function is what I have come to expect from Altra. Couldn't be happier with these shoes, and more importantly with my discovery of the Altra brand and philosophy!

I have the regular Lone Peaks and the Mids, and I love the shoe. Out of the box, it feels about perfect. I normally wear a 13 4E. I use the Mid Mesh pair as my work shoe - typically on my feet for 10 hr shifts. The only downside is I've had some inflammation I can only attribute to muscle weaknesses in my feet. I feel like I'm still in the transition phase from the high heels.

I'm an an Ex-Wildland Firefighter (Hotshot Cleveland/San Bernardino/SLO I know hiking. And I know comfort in a boot. In this case the trail running shoe here. As a testament to there comfort. I strapped on my very first pair, the day of my 3rd return trip to hike to the Havasupai Indian tribe in the Grand Canyon. To see the falls and hike to the Colorado and back out. With a 47 pound pack. Brand New from the box. The first part of the hike is a 2 mile switch back down to the floor of the Grand Canyon. With a pack pushing down on you. Im sure your all aware of the downward strain that puts on the foot. Especially when your foot starts sweating. To sum it up. It was a 64 mile trip. Not one issue. Not one blister. I have not worn a different shoe since. I own an Auto Detailing business. So I'm constantly on my feet. I've ran through 4 pair already. And just purchased the new Waterproof version, because of my job. I wanted to see how they do. They are also awesome. Just a bit warm on the feet. Obviously with the waterproof covering, you don't get as much air flow. I also play adult league softball and I where these bad boys to. Just like a turf cleat. These stick to the dirt when your rounding second. GREAT SHOE! Shoe does run a bit small in length. But they have half sizes now!! I should be a spokesperson for you guys! I weighed 233 when I did my Havasupai hike and tha was 1 year ago in April of 2019. I weigh 185 now! And it's because i have the comfort of those shoes! No feet aches. My knees don't hurt. They literally propel your step forward. Buy it!!

Awesome update and the mid top are awesome for hiking and even running in the snow. I used to like really firm boots but these are great. No blisters right out of the box while hiking straight up a mountain with no trail.

The Altra LONE PEAK 4 MID MESH is excellent. In seeking to optimize a couple of features the LONE PEAK 4 MID MESH really succeeds for me. I am unsympathetic to the complaints about the LONE PEAK 4 MID MESH not being weather-proof enough. In a market overfull of weatherized Gore Tex'd footwear that never breathes or dissipates heat well enough, the breathability of the LONE PEAK 4 MID MESH is a feature, not a liability. The ankle support provided for trail running and older world-worn ankles is especially appreciated. My pair are holding up well under continual use. The wide box for the forefoot is also as welcome differentiating feature. I hope Altra is not tempted change these basic singular features ever--but instead build on them. More colors maybe. The LONE PEAK 4 MID MESH may not be pretty, but I think they are beautiful!
