This is a light, all-purpose hat ideal for active outdoor activities where you're likely to break a sweat. The thin material (it weighs practically nothing) is ideal for wearing under a helmet or hood. For some, it might be a wee light for being stationary in very cold weather (e.g., watching a football game outside) but as I run warm I'm not too concerned about it. Loved the gray so much, I purchased black four days later! #sweepstakes

I use this beanie (and a similar one from a previous purchase) for skiing and mountain biking. Both worn under the helmet. Super thin and light weight but pretty warm for most chilly to cold days. Extreme cold would require a heavier beanie. Also wear it on a chilly day when out and about running errands.

This Merino 150 Beanie is my new favorite skate skiing hat. The beanie is light enough to wear during very aerobic activities and it has great coverage for my ears. I bought 2 so I will always have one to wear!

This beanie is perfect for cold weather running and ski touring, it is thin enough to fit under a helmet too.

Warm and light weight

This is the perfect hat for the cooler Southern California morning walks. I appreciate the quality of material, cut, fit and lightweight of this hat. This is a wonderful hat! Keep up the great work Smartwool!

Ordered one of these for my husband-he liked it so much he had me order another. Very soft and light to wear under bike helmet or just alone. He said it keeps him just warm enough without bulk.

This beanie is an excellent fit for my follically challenged 7 3/8" dome. Started buying these after going down a rabbit hole seeking the best beanie. Criteria: warm (yet not too warm), thin, wool, durable, and comfortable. This beanie checked all the boxes. I have several of each color about a dozen total. One of each color in all my coat pockets plus a few extras so I will never go without. Gravitated toward the grey during the day, black at night. Easily fits in front pant pocket if not wearing jacket. LOVE these!

I run really hot while running so any other winter running hat is TOO hot for me - but this one is perfect! I wear it once the weather gets in the low 30's and below and am happy and perfectly temperature regulated for my whole run. I'd recommend this beanie for any cool weather, high intensity activity!

What a great hat for under your helmet! Soft and smooth. Can't tell it there except you're warm.

I wear this hat on cooler days when a full blown heavy stocking hat is too much. Very warm even though it is thin which is a bonus for earing this hat under a cap or helmet. Wish I had bought one ten years ago.

I can't own enough of these things. I keep one in my bike pannier, I keep one in my search and rescue pack, I keep one in the car. Just a little bit of warmth on the head in such a lightweight package fixes a lot of cold. Fits under a helmet. However many you think you want to order, order one more.

great daily use

Perfect lightweight beanie, or great as a layering piece.

The 150 beanie turned out to be lighter than I had expected, but it ended up being warm enough, anyway. At least, it has been warm enough for wearing under my bike helmet in cool weather. It was maybe a little too light on a couple of nights camping when the temps dropped near freezing. Still, it's super comfortable, and I don't need to adjust my helmet when I put it on or take it off.

I LOVE these Merino 150 Beanies. They fit my small head will with a little dryer time, they fit my husband's bigger head well with hang-to-dry treatment. They are just the right amount of warmth for his balding head and my short hair. These beanies even fit under my horseback riding helmet for that extra bit of warmth. Because they are so lightweight, they are small and easy to carry in a pocket for those "just-in-case" times.

Love this hat. Perfect light cover, and essential lightweight wear for people with little or no hair. Have purchased 3 styles using this fabric, and this one is by far the best.

Light, thin and warm. Fits under my helmet or when I want my head to look tiny.

I love this hat and use it two ways. First, I keep one handy in a pocket or pack in case the temp drops. Second, it's the perfect under layer beneath a warmer hat, in case the wind picks up, etc. For both uses, it takes up almost no space in a pocket or pack. So I keep a few handy in different places. (Never had a problem with ear coverage.)
