This jacket is one of my favorites. I have never been to impressed with the "breathability" of goretex and this jacket is no different. That being said, I didn't buy this jacket to breathe. I bought it to keep me dry which it will. A great affordable rain jacket that will hold up to the elements.

I tend to run got, and the full zips allow me to dump heat quickly. High quality details, and seals out wind and rain when you've got everything sealed up. Quite happy with it.

The thing with the zipper is it has to be positioned just right to zip up. May take a couple three tries.

I purchased this jacket for my dad, after a positive experience with the women's version of this jacket - the Aspire. He is in his 70's and walks and bikes regularly - often 8-10 mile walks in all types of weather, and he was in need of a new windbreaker. This jacket doesn't look extreme or flashy, and the details are subtle. Also, it performs great! My dad loves that he can go for a walk without taking an umbrella with him in case of rain, and it layers well with fleeces and hoodies underneath. I consider this jacket to be an "essential" piece and I was excited to get my dad set up with a much better performance jacket than what he had ever owned previously. It's a great shell for all-season use. His only complaint was that the waterproof zippers were a little more difficult to operate than regular zippers. In terms of fit, it's long and layers well. If anything, it probably runs a little big, not small. I got him the Navy color, I forget the name of the color, but it's a very dark navy and looks very nice.

Great gear. Pants and jacket fit in one bag/pocket. OR makes all the hunting brands look stupid for the prices they charge for rain gear. OR stuff is better quality.

I wore this on a recent alpine climb and loved it. This jacket is light, packs small, breathes well and the full side zippers are great.

Excellent jacket. Keeps me dry and the wind out. Provides the same protection that more expensive jackets do. Very versatile, durable pockets are all adequate. I pair it with a lightweight puffy and it has proven comfortable time and time again. Would certainly purchase this again.

I used this rain jacket on a recent sheep hunting trip in the mountains. The performance of this jacket was outstanding. This is probably the first rain jacket that I've ever owned that wasn't too hot while I was hiking. the zippers under the arms and on the side are great for letting out heat and keeping you comfortable. The draw cord on the hood is awesome for keeping the hood actually on your head and out of your eyes. All-in-all, this is the best rain jacket that I have ever owned. It seems pretty durable, so I hope that I have it for a long time!

I own two OR Forays. Both fatigue and coyote. Plainly said, this is a great all around GoreTex rain jacket. The only thing I would add would be a zippered or Velcro hood pouch so you can get it out of the way.
I also own a OR Helium 2 lightweight rain jacket in coyote. It is lighter than the Foray, but it is made heavier.

This is perfect for almost all weather/ uses, however, at over $200, it's probably worth cross shopping this and (last season's) true 3 layer hardshells. In addition to backpacking, I use this (and the foray pants when the skies really open up) for my bike commute year round in the willamette valley.
This jacket does make some design compromises for everyday use, compared to technical hard shells:
-Pockets aren't harness/pack compatible, however this is somewhat alleviated by the torsoflow zips, which allow you put the front of the jacket over your hipbelt.
-The hood is sized to fit without a helmet, moves with your head, and doesn't impede peripheral vision. However, it is not (comfortably) helmet compatible and doesn't have a wire brim. The rear toggle adjuster means it can't fit comfortably under a helmet either.
- In hot weather I've found the 2 layer paclite/polyester fabric actually breathes better than gorepro 3 layer jackets I've used, however it is less windproof; gusts over 40mph cut through it a little. I wouldn't want to rely on it on glacier (not that it's marketed for that). Being a 2 layer fabric, it is somewhat delicate. After about five months of near daily use I noticed a small tear in the paclite membrane, which was easy enough to patch. I would have appreciated some sort of lining in the hood and right hand pocket (the left is mesh lined to convert to a stuff sack) to protect the membrane from abrasion and oils from skin and hair. I do have full confidence in OR's warranty if it develops any issues I can't fix myself.
-It does wet out sooner than jackets I've used with nylon face fabric. This is really the only inexcusable flaw, but it's not a huge deal, as it dries quickly and is well ventilated.

I've been using a foray jacket since 2010. I had to return my first one because after a year of minimal use in SE Asia it started to peel on the inside, but OR exchanged it with no questions asked. Since then, I've used this jacket in SE Asia, Antarctica, the Arctic, the US, and Europe. This is one well-travelled jacket! I initially bought the foray because I wanted a jacket that could keep me dry, but not too hot, during tropical downpours. The pit zips make it versatile when it's hot and rainy or when you simply need some ventilation. I've used this on backpacking trips (I love ORs long pit zips with two zippers), as a shell for skiing, and as my general winter shell. The waterproofing has come back after using Nikiwax several times and it has withstood the test of time. I like this jacket so much, I bought a second one to rotate them. I can't give this jacket (and OR) enough praise. Well worth the money!

I can't begin to explain how much I love this jacket! Its always kept me dry living in southeast Alaska where we get 150 inches of rain a year. While keeping the water out, it's also very breathable and durable. As a hiker and fish biologist, I spend a lot of time outside and it hasn't even started to wear. A bit expensive, but worth every penny! Thanks OR!

Outstanding jacket with tons of great features. Love the Gore-Tex Paclite technology. Packs down small, is very soft to the touch but more than sturdy enough for moderate applications. I have an Arcteryx Beta LT and a three-layer Patagonia shell and this jacket takes a back seat to neither of these. In fact, I find myself hauling this one out of the closet more often than the other two. The Hops color is really nice... plenty of compliments if that means anything to you :-). Bottom line - just buy it.

I bought his jacket for some rain protection on my west coast trial hike. It held up to everything mother nature could throw at it. very pleased with the overall design and venting. Packs away really well when the sun comes out. I have even used it on a couple shorter back country skiing trips. Very durable piece of gear worth purchasing.

The Foray jacket is a solid winner for all around use. The full length side/pit zips allow for great ventilation and for comfort when worn with a backpack using a hip belt. This is my favorite go to jacket for all kinds of activities and weather. I have and continue to recommend this jacket as well as other OR products to many folks I work with and come in contact with.

I bought this a few months ago and its only proven to be such a wonderful investment. Used it many times in Central America in the pouring rain and in Canada with the harsh cold winds. Its a must have piece of clothing!

I recently purchased this jacket to replace a stealth suit jacket that I use for the windproof/waterproof/breathable capacities. I was not disappointed, easily packable, lightweight and of course has a lot of air zipper so if its too warm you can rapidly get some fresh air by simply open your zippers. The foray jacket and a puffy has a mid layer keeps you warm and dry. I strongly recommend this jacket and any outdoor research product for their quality and price.

This has been one of my most treasured pieces of gear. It is suited for loads of different activities! Any time I'm backcountry I'll have it stashed away in an easy access point of my pack so that in a flash of rain I can quickly slip it on.
The fact that it is so light weight makes it an essential for trips when shaving weight is a must.
I've used it on various backcountry overnights and canoe trips.
The side zips are a great feature for when you need to cover parts of your pack and or just need some extra breathability. The lose fit allows for added comfort and I actually find that it allows me to stay a little cooler when hiking in damp conditions so that I am not over heating.
All around this jacket is a 5 - simple yet affordable and convenient.

Jacket fits great, keeps you dry, gore-tex at just over 200 dollars is a steal. That's all well and good but the thing that makes this the greatest jacket known to man is the pit zips are massize. No jacket is breathable enough for high intensity activity, but with these massive pit zips I dnt need to shuck my jacket every time I go to do a climb on my mountain bike, or when I step inside for a minute from the cold and the rain. These pit zips are massive and amazing
