This jacket is not durable and is currently going back to Arc'Teryx a second time repairs. I wear the jacket out and about the city (Minneapolis) and it just can't hold up to mild/moderate use in the couple years I have had this. For the price of the jacket I would have expected it would last longer than it has.

I had two beta AR since 2009 . One manufactured in China, the other in Canada. Both jacket faced quality problems one with goretex delaminating, zipper failing and seems coming undone.
For the price, I would expect a much more durable product.
I own quite a bit of Arcteryx products, I unfortunately cannot recommend buying their shells after my experience

I bought this Beta AR to replace an Alpha SV that I had had for many years, that gave great service before giving up the ghost. Have other Arc'teryx items that are also great pieces of kit, so was expecting good things from the Beta. What a let down! One hour over the moors in not too heavy rain to find when I got home that the jacket was totally permeable to the rain - not just the odd patch, the inside was soaking. I would have been interested in knowing the reason for this total failure of the material and did ask for this, as I appreciate the odd problem can happen and I am a fan of Arc'teryx products. The good thing is that Arc'teryx refunded my money without a quibble. I would have simply requested a replacement except Arc'teryx's system does not allow this. I am now wondering if I should risk ordering another Beta - it is a lot of cash to have tied up if it goes wrong again!?

I wore this jacket on the Northern Way in 2013 and it failed me several times in keeping me dry. At the time, I attributed it to sweat (that is an arduous trek). This year on the Portuguese Camino, it failed catastrophically again, leaving me soaked several times and I know it was not due to sweating. Had it been cold, I would have been in serious trouble. I have a much older Arc Teryx that is bomb-proof and reliable, but it's heavy for these long walks. Something has been lost with the lighter-weight new versions and I no longer can recommend the brand for serious use, especially given the price.
