I ordered 1/2 size up as I normally do in athletic shoes. The fit was perfect!

These shoes fit me perfectly, which is rare. My foot measures 11M. I ordered 11.5 wide, and the fit was perfect. I need a roomy, wide toe box, and these were great. They definitely prevent pronation. They have a very wide, stable sole without narrowing under the arch. The reason I decided to return them is that the shoe is so hard and rigid they caused knee pain in my bad right knee just walking a few steps in my home. Too bad, since I loved the way they fit, but walking was uncomfortable.

I've lost my count on how many pairs of Ariels I have owned. I buy 2 pair a year for several years.
I overpronate and these have saved my body a lot of pain. Providing a strong support base enabling me to walk pain free.
I live in Florida and strongly request an Ariel sandal!

One of the most comfortable shoes I have ever owned. I’ve had two foot surgeries in two years and need a shoe that’s extra cushy. This definitely fits the bill!

I pronate and have fairly narrow heels. I've been buying this brand and model for over a decade now, and have found them overall to be the absolute best in terms of fit, comfort, and functionality. That said, I have to admit that they are DOUBLE PLUS UN-CUTE; I wish they at least had more color options!

These Brooks really felt so much better than the cheaper Brooks. Those didn't have s cushion and support. I guess you get what yo pay for.

Great toe box. Great support for plantar fascia pain. Great support for over pronating. Great support for walking. Need more fashion color options. Love the option for extra wide.

This sneaker was recommended to me by an athletic shoe salesperson as I do pronate when I walk and my feet ALWAYS hurt no matter what. He recommended them in a wide (I usually wear a B width) and I had the most pain free vacation I've had in many years. I ordered a second pair.

Comfort from the moment I put them on. I've been a fan of Brooks Ariel for forever and the Ariel '18 does not disappoint. These are the best running shoes I've found for pronation. If you pronate, give them a try.

It runs true to size. I order D width. There is plenty of room in the toe box without it being too wide around the ankle, which is often a problem for me. The wide width size is often too wide for my heel. My heel doesn't slip in this shoe. I have very flat feet, absolutely no arch. These shoes are the only ones I can wear without added orthodontics and have no overpronation. They are light weight. They come in a very nice neutral gray color that allows me to wear them with casual clothes and still look nice. I have two pairs: one for regular wear and one for walking/running/exercise. And my feet don't hurt when I wear these.

This shoe is very structured and provides for a lot of stability and support. It is for over pronation which is a big issue for me. I have had 6 surgeries on one foot and have a difficult time finding a comfortable shoe, this is it. Contrary to other writers I find the shoe good looking, given the amount of structure it provides. I am a size 10 and my foot looks smaller in this shoe than less substantial shoes ( I bought the dark grey with light blue laces- they look pretty cool). Also for those who complained about heels slipping I didn’t get that at all and I have a verrry slender heel/ foot. I purchased medium width. They are new now so don’t know how they will hold up. But extremely pleased with the comfortable fit and the look so far

This is my second pair of the Ariel 18. Black/Thistle I LOVE this shoe.
It fits with enough room in the toebox (unlike previous Brooks shoes).
It has style....the black is SO MUCH better than elephant grey.
Much prefer minimal color that allows the shoe to be worn with basic blue or black.
Thank you Zappos for carrying this item well into spring. It's a winner.

This is my 4th pair-consistently the best shoe for the “severe over pronator”. Order 1/2 size larger (this has what has worked for me since Ariel 14). Extra wide is perfect for the (sigh) wide foot + (ugh) bunions. Clunky looking...but I can literally walk for miles in these.

OK, so I have just tried on five pairs of sneakers this week, all from Zappos. These are THE ONE!
Why... well I know I need a stability shoe but honestly I was trying to get something a bit more modern looking. But after walking around my dining room in each pair wondering "can I live with this shoe?", I told myself NO. You need a shoe you love from the very moment you put on, otherwise it goes back.
Anyway, long story short, I wore Brooks Ariel years and years ago -- recommended by a Physical Therapist for my knee pain -- and somehow stopped wearing them. I thought they stopped making them? Or I just wanted to change it up? Since then, I have been wearing Brooks Adrenaline GTS: worn or tried 17, 18, and the 19. Also the Pure Flow 7. Well, NONE of them are as good as the Ariel for stability AND cushion. Of all the others, I really liked the Adrenaline 18 best -- hated the 17 and 19. Either way the Ariel 18 is the greatest shoe for me, still. They hug my feet and have better cushion than I remember from the "old days" of Ariel. So Happy!!!
Fashionable? Nah. But you will feel so good you won't care!!! Excuse me while I go buy another exact pair before they are sold out. Pro tip: If you find a shoe you love, and if you can afford it, always get two pairs.
As always, thanks to Zappos for letting me try on so many pairs in the privacy and comfort of my own home and allowing me to choose the best one.
PS: Brooks, if you are listening... would it be so hard to make an all-black or all-white Ariel? The Ariel colors are always blah and that's why only 4 stars for style.
I'd also recommend:
Brooks for sneakers. Naot for work/dress/casual shoes.

This sneaker/athletic shoe was highly recommended by my podiatrist. So with that advice I felt like it would be worth the money and good for my particular issues. I bought 2 pair, ebony and gray and especially like to “look” of the shoe. It is extremely comfortable, the insole is easily removed for my own orthotic which is necessary for me. The orthotic fits nicely and there is enough depth in the shoe that it keeps foot secure and well supported especially in the ankle. I have been wearing them for several weeks, enough time to give a positive assessment. I would also say that I have tried many brands in the past, think Brooks will now be my exclusive choice.

The price is a bit steep - however they are brooks and in my opinion worth every penny ! For people who have an issue with mid to severe over pronation, these shoes are amazing! A bit heavy ( so for long distance running they may not be the best) but for weight training and short distance runs ( 5k ) these shoes work really well ! Great arch support, toe box is nice and wide, no heel slippage. Look is ok. With arch/ pronation support the shoe locks a bit ‘clunky’ .

A substantial shoe! I wear orthotics and I debated whether I should use them with these shoes or not because the shoes already have so much support.

This shoes has so much support on the interior and exterior. The shoe is very stiff, but is just what I needed. The heel is firm on the outside to give lots of ankle/heel support and cushioned well on the inside. It fits my orthodic well. I ordered a wide, nice toe room. My only issue is on the top of the shoe they put a reflective fabric that is about an inch in size that reminds me of a splash of paint (kind of wish it wasn't there). These are pricey sneakers but so glad I got them!

I was a die-hard Ariel fan for over a decade, trying to aid my multiply-ailmented feet and stay on them!
When the model changed a few years back, it changed the mechanics and did not jive with my problems, so I had to find an alternative. I went to the men’s addiction to get the toe box room I needed for painful bones. When I saw the reviews for this Ariel hinting that it was more like the old days, I had to give it a try....so glad I did! And I agree....the mechanics of my old trusted Ariel were back in this model and I am SO THANKFUL!!
Toe box room, bunion-accomodating mesh, arch suppprt/replacement structure, forefoot/heel padding, appropriate rise......
I hope they stay for the next model and the color schemes are appealing....The neutral grey/black tones with just a touch of color are easiest to blend into a wardrobe for everyday dawn-to-dusk (beside the bed, first thing on, last thing off) wear if you are dependent like me on shoes to make you able to walk at all!!

I am in LOVE with the comfort of the Brooks Ariel "18. I loved the '12s" and this seems to be quite similar in fit and comfort. I hated the 14's, the 16"s were a bit better but ran small. These Ariel 18s are prefect for anyone needing an ultra supportive shoe with a ultra wide toe box. I [lan on buying a few more pairs to keep omn hand in case the next generation of the ariel goes back to what the 14s and 16s were. I jush wish they were a bit more stylish in color.
