Have owned Sperry boat shoes for at least 35 years. Not sure how many pair, finally decided to splurge on the Gold Cup. From the smell alone, knew it was quality leather before even unwrapping the paper. They are beautiful shoes with unbelievably soft leather. The fit is amazing. Instantly regretted not buying these years ago. While admiring the shoes realized how poorly constructed they were inside. The stitching in the heel cup of one shoe is coming apart and was not sewn together in other parts. Will exchange for a new pair. Hope it was a random bad pair.

I've been buying Sperry for decades and always loved the style and craftsmanship. My last pair purchased looked great, but then I put them on and wore them a while. The leather insole only makes it halfway and is not glued down at the ball of your foot. The leather bunches up making them uncomfortable. Took them back where purchased...they basically said tough.

Really disappointed, the glue from the footbed is already separating after a week of use. At this price point I find this completely unacceptable.

I have had at least 15 pairs of Sperry Top Siders over the past several decades, wearing them 95% of the time in the summer and at least 60% of the time in winter. Until very recently these have been excellent boat shoes that served their original purpose well. When Gold Cup Top Siders appeared, I migrated to them and found them even better -sturdier, better fit and much more comfortable for daily use. After using the Gold Cups since they became available, I mistakenly ordered on line a pair of Sperry Authentic Original Top Siders, thinking that they would be at least as good as the original Top Siders I used for many years. They were not, and I went back to Gold Cups. Most recently, with my Gold Cups wearing out, I ordered a new pair of Top Siders from your catalog that were clearly described as "Gold Cup" and not "Authentic Original Gold Cup". What arrived in a box labeled "Gold Cup" on its cover was a pair of Top Siders that were more "Authentic Original" than "Gold Cup", in spite of having "Gold Cop" embossed on the lining inside. They are only partly lined, the leather upper is thinner, the heel cup is not as strong, the sole is stiped rather than the stronger non-stiped sole of my older Gold Cup. Overall, this is a Top Sider that seems to have become more of a moccasin for more casual use than a true boat shoe. I only hope that when the three Top Siders I have in my closet completely wear out, I will be able to find suitable replacements.

What have you done? I have worn Sperry Original for 40 years and in recent years added some Gold Cup to my collection. Always very happy until now. Your latest iteration of the Gold cup is a glorified version of the Original. Gone is the soft smooth leather and the fit on my right as good as usual, the left, I could hardly get my foot in. Why tinker with such a good shoe. If you have old stock unhand I would love a pair of Gold Cup Original in 12 W. I hope when I am due for a pair of regular Authentic Original they won't have been changed too.

I wear my Sperry boat shoes all day, every day. I purchased this pair as the Gold Cup Ultra is no longer available and I thought this shoe might be an acceptable replacement. It's not. I've spent 2 weeks breaking in the shoes and they're still too tight in the width and length, and just as importantly, after spending a day in them my feet ache. The soles do not have the cushion the Ultra's did, nor the overall comfort. I will continue to search for a replacement for the AO Gold Cup Ultra, but if I can't find a suitable replacement, this is likely to be my last Sperry product.

Bought a pair of Navy Blue shoes last year. Whenever they got wet the blue dye discolored my feet in a major way! Am wondering how a "boat shoe" could bleed dye upon getting wet!

I'm very disappointed in my recent purchase! This is my third pair of Gold Cups and they are absolutely the most comfortable shoes. The problem I have is the metal eyelets have popped out where the lace goes around below the ankle etc. This is the second pair this has happened to and I would not recommend buying this shoe until Sperry resolves this problem. I have four eyelets that have popped out and these shoes are six weeks old. Two eyelets on the right and two on the left shoe. Very disappointing for what was once a high quality shoe!!!

These look great and feel great. Unfortunately as many have said, the glued insole comes unglued almost immediately. I only wore them once for a few hours and the left insole came unglued. How can Sperry allow these to continue to be sold without fixing the problem? I won’t buy anything Sperry anymore until they own up to the problem and fix it.

I ordered the wide fit and unfortunately it turned out to be a very narrow fit even do the shoe was marked as a wide fit. I was very disappointed and had to send the shoes back. What a waste of time. It looks like the quality control is not existing anymore

Poor construction. Leather liner is curing up on both right and left shoes. Ordered a wide width but very narrow; either mis marked or does not size like my last pair of gold cups

I ordered the new style with the laces inside, but I received the old style with laces out. Have to tie them all the time. I was leaving right away on a trip so I couldn't exchange them.

No structure. Maybe good for boats but not for everyday use. I gave the shoes to a thrift shop.

I needed to replace a year old Gold Cup ASV boat shoe for cosmetic reasons and ordered the exact same size in the non ASV version which was only one I could locate in my size. I was shocked when I opened the package and actually tried them on. My old Gold Cups are incredibly comfortable, as were the ones before that, and the new ones are essentially unwearable. There is a piece of leather inside that narrows the shoe near the tongue. They feel like a narrow rather than a wide width. What did your vendor do to ruin my favorite shoe?

Although very comfortable the picture is shown with a cross lace and that is not how they ship. These are full lace shoes that need to be tied and is deceptive to show them otherwise.

I love sperry. Probably had over a dozen pairs. Gold cups disappoint for being twice the price. Sure they have an extra cushion but that creates a seam across the middle of the shoe right behind the ball of the foot that is agitated. It makes it uncomfortable to walk. I just sent a request to support, let's see if this is normal amd how they handle it. Otherwise I'll go back to the classics at the regular price. Thanks! This is a pair I've worn about six times, bought for the return to the office.

I have owned Gold Cup Sperry's for many years but the recent gold cup boat shoe was very uncomfortable and did not breathe. My past pairs were the most comfortable shoes ever but seems like something changed in either the manufacturing process or the materials. Too bad, it was a great shoe.

I have been buying Sperry boat shoes for about 15 years, and have been buying this Gold Cup model for about 5 years after there was a decline in the quality of the leather used for the "base" model shoes. The pair of Gold Cup shoes I bought about a year ago did not break-in or wear as well as previous pairs I have owned and within a year of what I would call "normal seasonal wear" the upper began to separate from the lower part of the shoe. I then purchased a brand new pair which I received about a month ago. Within 2-3 weeks of pretty light wear a strip of the "sole border" de-laminated from the rest of the sole and I could already see signs that he upper was beginning to separate from the sole of the shoe. Unfortunately Sperry shoes seem to be declining in quality over the years and I'll most likely be moving to another brand.

my ten year old shoes are completely different quality. the new ones have average quality leather that was much thinner. The inside of the shoe was not near as comfortable as the old ones. I am sad to see Sperry sourced a lower quality product now for their high end shoes. Looks like I will by cheaper shoes and replace them more often.

I bought these shoes after owning multiple different pairs of Sperry Gold Cups and enjoying the comfort that they provide. However, these shoes would "bleed" the brown dye onto my feet/socks after wearing them. I contacted customer support and they claim that this is not a manufacturing defect and is not covered by warranty. Unless you want your socks to be dyed brown, do not purchase. It is sad to see another company not stand behind their products (especially the Gold Cup line) and I will be looking elsewhere in the future.
